No Model S 40's were delivered with 40kWh batteries, they were all SW limited 60 kWh packs.

You're amazing and I am so glad someone cares about Tesla owners. I'm definitely upgrading to 90kw with GRUBER for less when its time down the line. Great knowledge:). $14k plus 2k install is a great price compared to 20-23k. Glad enthusiasts pushed Tesla to lower their price on batts.

I really appreciate this video I needed this information worried about what happens when my car is out of warranty completely. Glad to know I have other options and can upgrade my battery 🔋 though not a big bump but as we all know those few miles make a difference when you need them currently I’m riding on P85D whenever battery goes ill take a 90kw battery

Great video. It would be cool to see a high mileage Model S that you give a full refresh to and document the process such as cleaning/maintenance on the drivetrain, going through wear items to bring it back to close-to-new condition. It would also be cool to see putting next gen seats in an older car, if that's possible.

Great news specially for 100D and P100D owners, by the time the actual batteries die the replacement cost will be way less and all the maintenance saved will definitely worth, also less drama with motors, for some a great design car and in my case P100D a lot of time all the way along. It has been 6 years since I bough mine, initially 330mi, today’s date 288mi and 49k miles in the odometer. I have no problem in 12 years replacing the battery and still driving the same luxurious and quick Tesla. Full charge at night and can drive the entire week.

We have the 2018 Tesla MS 100D and it has been reliable until yesterday. I was driving from San Francisco to San Diego. I stopped near Bakersfield to charge the car to about 270 miles. We started down freeway 5 and I got a warning that I needed to charge the car and to pull over to the side of the road. I was lucky we were not hit by other traffic as it was about ten am. We had to wait for about two hours for Geico to send us a tow truck. Tesla in Bakersfield told us that the main battery needed to be replaced. Worse case it may take seven weeks to get it done. The battery is still under warranty so that helps. They provided a model 3 to continue our trip home. I had to learn how to drive this M3 as it does not operate like the MS does. I have to say it rides ok, but I like my MS. Tesla Workers at the Bakersfield location are very nice. Our Model S did not give us any indication in the days leading up to this battery failure. Has anyone else had something like this happen to them? Are the batteries installed in the newer cars better? Thanks for the video.

This was such a nicely done video. Excellent explanation and super super informative. Tesla has now "done away with" pack sizes and now just have LR & LR+. Will those be able to retrofit into older Tesla's that have say a 75 or 85. Etc? How does the new packs compare and differ? I have an 85D and drive well pasty battery limit everyday. When my batteries finally die, I am hoping to retro 9n a LR+ battery. A girl can dream, right??

A question for the near future. I have a late 2018 MS P100D. If the battery was to replaced, do you think that using 4680 cells would be possible? No idea how many things that would impact in the 2018 design. But if it can be done, even if it's 50% the cost of a replacement 100 kwh pack, that would be a great option. Love to hear your thoughts on this. Maybe not enough info right now. But, when the time is right, looking forward to seeing an analysis. And obviously this would apply M3 and Y owners.

Hi, Pete. What are your thoughts on using "end of life" Model S packs as power walls? When it comes time for me to upgrade to a newer pack for my 2016 P90D, I would like to use the old pack as stationary storage for my house. It seems to me that this sort of 2nd life for the pack would be ideal.Is this at all feasible? What are the cons of such an idea?

Top information, amazing to learn about the extreme level of fine tuning in cabin crash protection. So I guess in carrying a spare wheel in the frunk of my P85+ jepodizes all that fine tuning and makes the vehicle less safe. US$16k doesn't sound too bad but it will be double (In AU$) here in Australia.

I am very curious about if there's any information currently available on upgrading a 100d pack to even higher levels. I read somewhere that if the cells currently used in model 3 were inserted into a model S pack, it would increase battery capacity by 50%.

Could you do a video on swapping a 100D to P100D with the rear performance unit?

My hope is that my 2013 S85 battery will last until the new higher performance batteries (ie. 4680) enter the marketplace and I can replace it with the new/superior battery technology (yes, I am THAT happy with my S -- it's simply the best car I have ever owned). Do you think that will happen?

At the newer lower pricing for a full replacement, the $14,000 fee seems better than multiple $5k repairs over time. Of course this depends on how long one plans on keeping the vehicle.

Great info and much appreciated! I do have a situation that has given me some pause with Gruber's info. I'm looking at a S90d that was fitted with a 100d, after the 90 pack failed. I hear that is a 100 pack with 2 modules removed, giving it 288 range instead of the original 330. Is this correct? The software shows it is now identified as a 100d vehicle.

I'd love to hear about upgrading a Model 3 Midrange battery to Long Range. As the number of used salvage long-range Model 3 / Y batteries is going to make this feasible. Also, a 3rd party has said replacing single modules or removing single cells on the S/X pack will cause failure in a short time. What kind of data do you have on that?

Great video. Don’t think you covered how the 100 pack is structured and how they get the extra capacity compared to 90. Also, the battery packs have a letter suffix that seems to indicate battery pack version; e.g. I have MX 100 ‘E’ pack. What is difference between E, F, G, H? Some of the range increases seem to be linked to battery pack version?

Can you upgrade a Tesla Model S 85D to increase the charging speed? Even with a little battery degradation, the range is still acceptable. But the time spent at the supercharger is miserable. My wife's 2022 M3LR charges *so* fast (at V3 chargers). Even though it has longer range, we really don't stop any more often than in our MS. But the quicker charge times make a huge difference on a several-hundred-mile trip. There was some kind of charging upgrade available when we got the MS that was supposed to decrease charging times. Maybe that option can be retrofitted? Thanks!

When you upgrade from a old 60kW to new 90 kW what charging speed will you get ? The first charging curve when the car was new is not the same today. The question is will a new battery get a updated charging curve?

Why can't you add connection to external battery packs at the rapid splitter? Or add a 400V DC charge to the same area? Then maybe the car could charge stationary or while driving. The regenerative braking does this anyway!

What about newer cells with higher energy density? Could they be used to avoid the extra weight? Also new more efficient motors. It's a shame if the the Model S body which is solid aluminum and will never rust couldn't be retrofitted with the latest technology.

I'd be very surprised if the Model X had any suspension changes for the 100kwh pack, the only difference I know of is that they moved to mcu2 at that point as well.

If the battery cel chemistry was improved lets say 10% which may have already happened, possibly you could get a same weight battery with more range. Also I have heard that some cars had batteries that were software restricted and that for a fee range could be improved.
