Only 105kW to keep 220km/h, not bad for that big car and much room to the 153kW continuous power limit. This means that there is no overheating, the temperatures all remain relatively low in this test run.
@phonehoppy

Did you notice that the average speed of traffic actually drops when the grey round diagonal "end of all restrictions" signs appear? Everyone and their mother then changes over to the left lane, no matter how fast they actually are. Plus trucks then also try to overtake each other, even if one is just 1 km/h faster than the other. Because the "end of all restrictions" sign also lifts any "no passing for trucks" restriction that you may have seen earlier on the stretch.

So the camera doesn't like to get attached to the windscreen because of the suspension, but how was the comfort during the trip? Was it acceptable or did the potholes catch you by surprise? I still really hope they put air suspension in the German Model Y. Other missing options from the Y, but less important, ventilated seats and better noise insulation (and maybe 100kWh pack).

have you ever driven at speeds north of 160 km/h? Any build other than German is going to produce a lot of noise. With Premium brands like Mercedes you can go 200km/h+ and have not much noise. The shaky and loud video tells you there is no premium build quality here. Anyways, you won't travel a lot at those speeds, even in Germany. Hi TeslaBjorn, Thanks for another great video. You are the No. 1 authority on EV driving in Europe. You make an interesting comment about regen level on autobahn. I notice you generally drive with regen at high setting. There are some EV drivers who swear that coasting is more efficient than regen. That doesn’t make sense to me and my E Niro has average 25% regen in the first 12 months. What do you think, is coasting better?
@burnhard.
@burnhard. Год назад
This is a physical fact: coasting does not transform energy, thus it has no energy loss. (As long as the brake is not touched.) But regen will lose some percent of the energy.

Was testing the ID.3 58 kwh version recently and since I am living in Germany I wanted to check the consumption at max speed. @higamato3811
@higamato3811 2 года назад
It's not a matter of effectiveness but rather one of cW values: Model Y 0.23, ID.4 0.28. That matters a lot at high speeds.
@marcelbeaucamp9330
@marcelbeaucamp9330 2 года назад
@@higamato3811 Absolutely - aerodynamics is most important. But in the end the better aerodynamics reduce consumption, especially at higher speed. This leads to a higher efficiency and more range.

@@marcelbeaucamp9330 the main factor is the resistance of the motors at high speed. The faster you go the more they consume, regardless of the cW value. Technically it's not fobidden. But you will more likely get people to slow down and take their sweet time overtaking at barely minimum speed instead of your intended result (because flashing your lights is considered to be very rude behavior). If you keep doing it you can easily get fined. The idea is to adjust your speed to the flow of traffic for maxium safety - not to have others get out of your way so you can hammer it. Surprised to see left lane huggers on the autobahn, I thought there was strong enforcement and even camera based ticketing to discourage that. I wondered why you didn't just pass on the right so I googled it, apparently that's illegal there. At those speeds I suppose it's the only sensible way to prevent chaos.
@bonham1981
@bonham1981 2 года назад
There is very little enforcement and speed cameras pretty much only do what they're supposed to do. Left and center lane hugging is very common. I reckon it's either stubbornness or erroneous knowledge.
@fn132788
@fn132788 2 года назад
The problem is, people want to maintain their speed, in order to drive fast and economical at the same time. Constant breaking and acceleration is to be avoided. Getting into the right lane is easy, but staying there without catching up to slower traffic ahead is the problem. So, if you turn right, in order to let left lane traffic pass, you will always risk that the left lane traffic does not overtake fast enough. Then you get starved out in the right lane, aka you have to adjust your speed to the slower traffic ahead, loosing momentum. This is why drivers tend to stay in the left lane for as long as possible, or until there is no slower traffic ahead on the right lane. Some people think, they have exclusive right to the left lane, when they are faster than the traffic ahead of them. And the slower traffic has to move out of their way. But that is a misconception on their part. The left lane is for passing slower traffic, not for driving as fast as you can. So, as long as you pass a right lane car every 20s, you can go as slow you like in the left lane.
@KevinT3141
@KevinT3141 2 года назад
@@fn132788 I totally get why people do it, I just thought the Germans had better discipline / enforcement than the rest of the world. It's strange that they obey the "don't pass on the right" rule but not it's companion, "keep right except to pass".

@fn132788 2 года назад
@@KevinT3141 But they do, all the cars in the video kept right except for passing. When many cars want to pass slower right lane traffic, but the leading car does it very slowly, then you end up with a long queue of would be passers. And if you leave this queue, then good luck getting back into it.

In some Facebook groups there has been some discussion about a high pitch sound from the rear motor under hard acceleration. If you listen to the sound on this video through a pair of good head phones or speakers you can here it. Was it something that you ever though about during the run?As always, thank you for a nice hammer video👍

@@MrGoogle87 yes, well, I knew that. It’s just that some people heard that sound and thought it was much louder and of extremely high pitch compared to the M3 for example.

I love that sound! Comparable in function to the engine roar when hammering it. But would not want it for normal driving, and then you don’t hear it either

The german OEMs have implemented proper brake blending allowing them to go higher on regen. Especiallly that the driver confirms the brake request allows you to go much higher on the FUSI Level. Tesla on the other hand simpy regens to the 80kW and in case the decelleration was to strong and ECD needs to take over has to reduce more.
@DG-uv3zw
@DG-uv3zw 2 года назад
It's not that simple. High regen can digrade battery faster and increase temperature. Has to be a fine balance. It's complicated and it's very dependable on battery chemistry etc... High regen will come as batt. improve

@Ferdi Posh it's possible...but currently expensive, of course... It's a good preview of the inevitable future of EVs

@@DG-uv3zw No - typical the recuperation on a model 3 is only decreased over 90% SOC - below that it stays constant - so i assume this is for battery protection The battery allows a short timed discharge of 377kW (on the Performance) and a continuous discharge of 153kW The same should be possible on the other side - only high charge currents will be available on low SOC where high discharge currents will be available on high SOC Additionally the battery allows a charge current on the supercharger with a continuous load of over 150kW continuously decreasing with the soc. The more or less constant recuperation over 90% to 10% ist partly drastical higher than the charge curve and partly much lower then the chrge curve - so battery protection can't be an argument. The car should behave mostly the same over a wide SOC RAnge and there is no way to increase the recuperation by user - for example via brake blending or pedals.
@DG-uv3zw
@DG-uv3zw 2 года назад
@@markushahnenkamm well i disagree. Discharge and charge rate is a huge difference! Most batteries allow 1C charge with burst charging significantly reducing health. But discharge can be well over 10C just the matter of thermal management with not that high degradation. Also, imagine braking(regen) changing with the SOC? You press lightly on the pedal and it slams, or again press lightly and it doesn`t even brake at all... I think it`s almost impossible to software tweak that because of many variables(like weather, road conditions, tires, etc...) Even in F1 many drivers struggle with brake by wire thing because of changing variables... Continues charge on DC does degrade battery rapidly! So, imagine every braking is similar to DC, how long would the battery last? They need to manage that...

10:00 what are we supposed to do? Floor it! It is not overtaking, if you are in your lane doing speed limit(especcially when there is no limit=)). It's those guys on the left who are breaking the road rules by driving in the left lane while right lane is free.

@@bjornnyland you see, in where I live, there also a rule that prohibits overtake on the right. But if you haven't changed your lane, but going faster then those in left lane it is not an overtake manoeuvre. It is advance. There is a difference in my country.

Just imagine the extra acceleration that can arrive with the 4680 cells. More than 10 times less internal impedance in the cells which will make the battery drop 5-7 Volts instead of 50-70 during load. Insane.
