Tesla - One Pedal Driving is Dope!

One pedal driving is super addictive, instant acceleration and deacceleration at your command using only the accelerator pedal. It gives you the feeling of complete control over your car's speed. Yes, it has ruined me for ever getting another gas engine car. My Tesla Model Y gives an enriching feeling of safety and control that I've never experienced in an ICE vehicle. I will show you how it works with Regen Braking and which settings to pick for maximum fun and control.

I find your videos really helpful on understanding the basic operation of a Tesla. I’ve learned how to put the car in drive and set up one pedal breaking. I’ve also learned I don’t have to buy a $500 wall charger right away. I can use the included cord with a 240 volt wall outlet. No one else bothers with this. I hope more people find your channel and subscribe. I don’t own a Tesla yet, but you are moving me in that direction.

Agree that the "Hold" mode is great for general urban driving, but you can get in trouble if you are pulling into a slightly uphill parking place and try to feather the throttle while lightly applying the brake to avoid coasting backward. The Tesla will then protest that you are braking and accelerating at the same time (true) and cut off both the brake and the throttle. The car then slides backward until you hit the brake again by itself, or the throttle by itself...

Good stuff! Advice is to use low regen a day a month to keep the old fashioned disc brakes in good order! “ don’t use you lose!” Now that’s just daft isn’t it ICE fans? Drive an EV once and don’t look back! Thanks Ron 👍

You’ve reconfirmed my belief in Tesla I just placed my order last night for model Y white LR and I was told by my 11 yr old Max to use Grandpa Ron’s code. Thanks Grandpa Ron

I love the one pedal driving too. My husband was following me to drop of our Y for window tinting and he noted that when I did that the brake lights did not come on so it could be a safety issue for someone behind you. I don’t know if that is going to make me stop doing it though!

L Zell might want to ask service Dept or your hubby’s optimist. They are supposed to come one with regen.

Hello Ron, I know everyone loves One-Pedal Driving ...but me :((. I can not find where I can turn it off and put it back to Normal-2 Pedals driving...Can you please give me some tips? In driving setup, my 2021 Model Y does not show option "Regenerative Braking" which I believe that is where I can put it to LOW ...

Yes, Tesla stopped offering the option to turn it down on the newer cars. It does take a while to get used to it. Now when I drive my wife’s Honda I feel out of control when coasting.

Ron, how long does it take until you can accurately predict the stopping distance? I can imagine myself stopping 10 feet short of the stop sign -- or 5 feet too late!
@grandparonstesla5141

Daniel O'Brien can alway adjust as you slow done. Full regen is stronger than I usually brake anyway. Most of the time, I tend to stop short and apply a little more accelerator to move up to where I want to stop.

Grandpa Ron's Tesla Thanks, that makes sense. BTW, I'm another grandpa who's getting a Tesla Y. Your channel has been full of information.

do you have to enable the HOLD everytime you drive? could you set it up as default, so it statys like that all the time, even when ou shut down the car? Thank you
@grandparonstesla5141

Yes my hold is default. It even goes into hold if i open a door when stopped. All automatic.

What about break check issue when driving on one pedal? Do you have any with drivers behind you?
@grandparonstesla5141
@grandparonstesla5141 7 месяцев назад
Whenever you let off on the pedal the brake lights come on. And also when stopped.

Im confused. If I drive down a hill and want to just let the car roll, its gonna slow down to a full stop? Meaning I have to push the gas pedal all the time. Isnt that actually a bigger waste of energy if I can just let the car roll by ifself
@grandparonstesla5141
@grandparonstesla5141 2 года назад
Yes if you lift your foot off the panel entirely, the car will start to slow down and recover some of your energy of motion back into battery energy. Just the reverse of when you accelerate. So you are correct that to go a steady speed you need to press slightly in the pedal. Electric cars have the ability to use “regen” to recover some energy when slowing down. Regular gas car have no way to save this energy. When you stop, the brakes turn all that motion energy into heat.

NO, because partially depressing the accelerator pedal in an electric vehicle is not the same as for a gas vehicle. ANY application of the pedal consumes energy with the gas one whereas the electric one can be consuming energy, doing nothing, or generating energy depending on the grade.

265 watts per mile is a meaningless term since "watts" is a unit of power only. It says nothing about energy consumption. 1:28
@grandparonstesla5141
@grandparonstesla5141 2 года назад
Yes, I meant watt hours.
@jakejones5736

@@grandparonstesla5141 The term is used this way so often that it makes you wonder if the author even understands what they're talking about. Didn't mean to come across negative and thanks for the clarification. Actually, I screwed up because "watts" (plural) are units (plural) of power meaning each watt has the same fixed amount of power. We both understood the physics; just didn't use the correct verbiage. Dontcha just love these guys that think like robots? Anyway, great presentation!
