#Corolla #Corollahybrid #Toyota
I tested the refreshed 2023 Toyota Corolla in the LE AWD trim.
The Toyota Corolla Hybrid enters the 2023 model year
as a thoroughly upgraded model. Make that five, as the 2023 Corolla Hybrid now offers a choice of
five model grades versus just one before. Debuting a more powerful hybrid system and available
Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive, the 2023 Corolla Hybrid also gains new safety and
multimedia systems, updated styling, and new paint colors.
The big news starts with the 2023 Corolla Hybrid LE grade getting a $1,250 price reduction. The
Hybrid LE is now joined by a new LE AWD grade, sporty SE and SE AWD grades and a premium
focused XLE. The XLE grade is now only available as a Hybrid for 2023. All Corolla Hybrid models
upgrade to new Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 with new Proactive Driving Assist, including Obstacle
Anticipation Assist and Deceleration Assist.
Next-generation Toyota Audio Multimedia equips all 2023 Corolla Hybrid models with an 8-inch
high-resolution touch screen and added capabilities, including standard wireless Apple CarPlay®
and Android Auto™ compatibility. All models add two rear-seat USB-C ports for a total of four in
the car.

Toyota's official MPG numbers are quite conservative: Hybrid FWD - 47 mpg average Hybrid AWD - 44 mpg average As shown, I don't think it's that hard to do much better than these figures.

Gotta say I love your focus on sensible cars. Sporty cars and powerful engines are marketed so hard these days that it's hard to find good firsthand info and reviews for these trusty commuters - more often than not, you can tell the tester is underwhelmed by the experience and there's like a bias. I get that fast cars are fun for a lot of people, but it's irrelevant for me. Thanks for being enthusiastic about these cars!

So basic, so easy to drive, so little technology going on…, so cheap to maintain…, never thought 💭 it was going to grow to what you’re driving now… all those features back in the late 90’s weren’t even available in most of the expensive cars…., it’s a little car but packed with really good features that as you mentioned, I don’t know how Toyota can pull this out taking in consideration how expensive everything else is now a day… Good job… Toyota and another good review from Kirk… Thanks again 👍🏻 for your time…

Going to lease my first car with this model and year. With interest rates shooting higher the car market will sink and deals will appear especially for leases. Just tired of unexpected expensive car repairs that wipe out the savings of having a free and clear title plus the inconvenience of missing work and finding an honest mechanic. Some people maximise value by learning to be self taught amateur mechanics to maintain their cars but I realized that if one is fiscally conservative in the right areas one can put more money in other areas. I just want to lease cars for two to three years at a time. Im paying a premium for peace of mind and for me its cheaper to lease than maintain old junk and use my work PTO to attend to a car.

I'm torn between my next car being a GR Corolla or an EV; I'm leaning towards an EV with cars like the VW ID Space Vizzion and Hyundai Ioniq6 coming; I'm hesitant to buy the VW though, I just don't trust it as much as I do the Hyundai, but I do like a wagon over a sedan. I also like a hatch over a sedan, and the GR Corolla is a row-your-own AWD hot hatch, likely one of the last pure ICE vehicles to come to market. Worth noting I do under 6,000 miles a year, mostly short trips, so I could get away with something like a Honda E if it ever came to the states (I won't buy a FWD car, RWD or AWD only) but I want something quicker than the Honda E (0-60 in 8 seconds is way too slow).

Don’t get electric because it’s in legislation that passed that the government can disable your car. Do research. Going electric is not a smart trend to jump on. Especially when grids can’t support the charging as more folks go blindly into this mess. The liberal administration wants to take our freedom away and driving all over is freedom.

Toyota's Corolla reaffirms its #1 position, making the S. Korean, German, British, Swedish, Italian, American, Chinese etc. car producers look weak. The price is the same in yens, thus the lower price in USD (that strengthened a lot lately). AWD or not, the Corolla hybrid is the best compact car to have nowadays. The reliability and TCO top positions belong to the Japanese top producers, thus they are the logic choice for smart shoppers.

Possibly also Toyota's business model. There have been so many earnings calls lately where companies pointed out their raw materials costs were dropping again but they felt they could get away with sticking higher prices on the customers anyway. Perhaps Toyota are choosing not to do that, but rather to go for sales volume and maintain sales no matter what the Trump appointees that still run the Federal Reserve do with interest rates.

@@richierich087 There has not been as much of a change in the rate of exchange between the yen and the AUD. The cost in yen has probably gone up but the USD is going further. Also, Toyota has to amortise compliance costs in Australia over a smaller number of vehicles sold here.

@@brucetownsend691 yes, I’m not sure. From my interpretations on why cars are getting more expensive is because of “inflation” 🤷‍♂️. I can remember going back say 5 to 10 years when the Toyota Yaris was only around $16k. Now you’re paying more like $28k for an entry level Yaris. The Corolla used to start at just over $20k, but now starts at just over $30k.

Wow the new hybrid Corolla models all look great...especially the AWD! However, it's a shame we don't get the new Yaris models here in the USA. I'm still really interested to see what they do with the Prius. I'm thinking Toyota priced the base Corolla very low ( 22K ) so the new base Prius can slot in $3000-$4000 above that. Really interested to see what efficiency gains Toyota has pulled out of the hat with the new Prius.

This refresh for the entire 2023 Corolla lineup is very impressive. Even the Corolla LE gas model now gets the 2.0 engine that was only available in the SE and XSE trims. What's the cost of replacing the expensive hybrid battery once the warranty is expired? Does the entire car shut down and totally unable to move once the large hybrid battery dies after it gets too old? I had a Honda Civic hybrid and the whole car totally shut down after the hybrid battery got old past the warranty. I then bought another Civic hybrid and the transmission failed before the hybrid battery and the transmission was already out of warranty past 36,000 miles. Had very bad luck with Honda brand especially with automatic transmissions. Previously had Accord transmission started to slip in the early 1990's, Honda Odyssey van in 2005, also Honda Pilot in 2005 all automatic transmissions went bad after just over 100,000 miles. A local mechanic who specialized in rebuilding Honda transmissions told me he personally saw Hondas with less than 60,000 miles already with transmission failures. No more Hondas with automatic transmissions for me. Honda Civics, Preludes and Accords with sticks shifts were fine.

Does it still have a displacement of 1.8 litre on the engine with 134 hp? Or did Toyota increse the displacement? Here in Germany it is a shame, that we do not get the sedan version anymore. But our sedan did look different in the front then the hatch, or the station wagon (Touring Sports). So my guess is, that people and customers didn't recognized the sedan as a Corolla.
