This is actually very interesting. I personally play DCS WORLD with an X56 HOTAS, Logitech Pedals, NLR FLIGHT STAND and Oculus Quest 2 VR. I never even considered that there were gliding sims let alone gliding sim hardware!

This sim is very over priced not worth it at all. You can build similar and better for way less money than that. A racing fiberglass seat cost around €120 with a frame, than you just need a regular sim pedals, better joystick and a control system. All this can be build for around €300- 500 so save your money and build it yourself.

Oculus Quest 2 VR. It's supported by Condor 2 natively so super simple to setup. Go into Nvidia drivers and CRANK all the settings (if you have a half decent rig) and it will be smooth as silk and look PERFECT. ADD BASS "THUMPERS" and tune them so you can feel the wind over the wings and the ground under you as you land. An incredible experience. *edit - also download and install "oculus tray tool" and crank super-sampling to 2.0. The graphics spring to life. You can see the little snowflake (?) in Winter on the gauges.

How do you find interacting with real controls while in VR? Is it hard to find where to locate them with the headset on?

@@cemerson I have them all setup the same as real life. I have 2 Hotas (so 2 throttles for flaps / speed brakes) .. and another throttle just for gear believe it or not. :) PLUS a ms force feedback stick between my legs.

Yeah and it's cheaper to buy this sim than do a rope break into a field vs practicing it. It's perfect for a club or training operation to prep students for emergencies and basic operations.

@Stefan The biggest gap in this video for me is the part that actually allows you to use the kit i.e. what computer, sim program, montior, etc. do you need? What settings did you have to configure/assign or was it plug and play? The kit looks great but for someone completely new, how would I bridge the gap between the kit and knowing what electronics and programs I also need to buy.

Condor Soaring is the most realistic gliding sim for training purpose. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 has much better graphics... Of course, you need your own PC and monitor ;)

If you want to make it more realistic without using vr you can also use a head tracker to look around, which is really nice in my opinion as you can look around much smoother like that and concentrate more on the flying.

Im following this company for a while and although some things are pretty ingenious and the build-quality is great, i think they should have gone one-step-beyond especially for this amount of money. As being part of the simracing community i know that there is still much to improve for this design.

Allein das Simulatorprogramm kommt gut rüber, wie sich die langen Flügel in der Seitensicht unter ihren Belastungen durchbiegen und die Reaktionen des Segelers auf die Steuereingaben. Das kenne ich von X Planes. Das Rig ist allererste Sahne. So aufwändig gebaute Seitenruderpedale habe ich noch nicht gesehen. Habe in den späten 1990ern einen PC Joystik geschlachtet um für den Combat Flight Simulator Seitenruderpedale zu basteln. Sah abenteuerlich aus, die Sperrholzkonstrucktion mit Seilumlenkrollen Schanieren und Spannfedern. Endlich konnte man Spornradflugzeuge vernünftig steuern. So wie von Dir vorgestellt macht Sim fliegen richtig Laune.

Absolut top in Scene gesetzt Stefan. Vielen Dank dafür. Ich darf das tolle Teil auch mein Eigen nennen. Fliege seit 2008 real und auch seit 2009 mit Condor. Dies kommt der Realität wirklich sehr nah... Absolut Daumen hoch. Ich benötige nur mehr Funktionen und habe mein Keypad mit 20 Positionen in Gebrauch..

Hallo ! Sim wurde Anfang Juli erfolgreich bei uns im Klub montiert, allerdings ist uns vor einigen Wochen leider der Joystick zu Bruch gegangen. Hast Du eventuell Erfahrung mit Support bzw. ET-Versorgung ?

I had an idea for a kinda similar idea - a stick and rudder which would attach to the base of a €60 Ikea POANG armchair. And using the space under the chair to have a rudimentary control-loading and spring-trim system…

@@SteFly ~80% of the benefit of a simpit is having a fixed seat and fixed control mountings vs an swivel chair and a joystick on rubber feet. Really makes you feel you're inside a vehicle. So why not get a cheap, comfortable, widely available seat as the basis :D

Freight would also be expensive here to NZ I think. I will check out their control stick by itself if they do this....you could save on doing the frames in local finished timber etc....? Laurie NZ

I also have the sidewinder force feedback II,It has a twist feature for rudder which is not ideal but better than nothing.What I like about it is the force it can generate.Since I have essential tremor,a genetic disorder inherited from my father the force is good to have when landing as with the tremor the more I concentrate,the more intense the tremor becomes......................

A couple of points. 1 - You said that in comparison to Microsoft Sidewinder you said that it is better because there is only twist for rudder. This is not accurate since you can use rudder pedals with the Microsoft Sidewinder. It looks very sturdy however there are some design shortcomings A - There does not seem to be any adjustability of distance to rudder pedals. This is essential for pilots of different heights. B - The monitor is much too far from the pilot. For good immersion, the monitor must be much closer (or much bigger but that is more expensive). Also the optimum monitor height is (approximately) the middle of the monitor in line with the eyes. Perhaps the monitor height is adjustable with the product. 3 - As someone else mentioned, using a head tracker is very helpful. I used and recommend TrackIR 5.

A) there is a quick system to change the position of the rudder pedals. B) my screen is too small with 27". It's just the video editing screen I had available. 32" and perhaps even triple sreen constellation would be perfect. I will upgrade soon! C) Thank you for the hint. I will deninitely buy one.

Danke Dir! Als Monitor hatte ich einfach einen 27" Monitor verwendet, den ich normalerweise zum Video bearbeiten verwende. Etwas größer wäre natürlich besser. Allgemein sieht die Sitzposition im Video nicht so toll aus, weil der Sitz nicht für Fallschirme ausgelegt ist 😀 Den Sitz könnte man noch etwas tiefer montieren, aber die Pedale sind nicht höhenverstellbar. Da müsste man dann basteln.

I had since 2004 in use the ffb2... I have 2 of them for selling now... I thought much longer time to change... But nothing... Was after 2. flight familar... because it's more realistic now...stick is on right position... No big movings..And I didn't miss Forcefeedback...

I like flying gliders in VR in MFS2020. You almost feel like not in a game. Not officially supported yet by the sim itself (planned for this year) but with some addons (and a really strong PC) you can get almost there already. So far we have Discus 2C, AS33, DG808, LS4 with some great avionics features. Also we have a tool called Kinetic Assistant that can add simulated thermals into the atmosphere (that can remain live weather too) and winch and tow launch. I have a home made cockpit with HOTAS and Rudder pedals so no problem there also.

Haha, mit Fallschirm ist sie auch wirklich nicht bequem. Aber ohne Fallschirm sitzt man super da und durch die Aluprofile lässt sich auch noch einiges einstellen.

Der Trimmhebel existiert nur auf einem kleinen Joystick am Knüppelgriff, ist also eine elektronische Trimmung wie beim TwinShark ;)

@@SteFly Yes! I've spoken with my club leadership about this setup or even something more basic, but anything is safer than doing 200' rope break simulations with a pilot that is inexperienced. Even experienced pilots make mistakes, so it's good to practice these in the simulator, rather than in real life at low altitudes. We can do slack rope demonstrations, and everything, even spins, without having the student completely overwhelmed by the experience, and possibly have negative learning from it.

Clubs in the UK have had far better and cheaper rigs for many years...using old cockpits..this is very far from being 'first of its kind' - there are even glider sims with 3 axis motion.... indeed there is a rival company in the USA that predates this with a very similar rig by many years........

Cool rig ! I am planning to build a setup for home soaring training (just started with a club this summer). I have pc, vr, condor and a set of controls with pedals and I'm using a throttle as airbreak lever. This might be a good option compared to building something out of scraps and a second hand drivers chair 🙂

In Condor, click on Free Flight. Choose your Landscape on the right side and remove all task points. then click 3x the airfield you wanna start from. hope this helps - best wishes
