My perfect mask would have: 1. Cavities 2. No light leakage (especially around the nose) 3. Not one but two elastic bands that form an X on the back of the head, to prevent it from moving around The only thing I have yet to see being offered by any mask is the last one.

Just got the Sharper Image Sleep Therapy Mask and it is amazing. You can open your eyes completely, the foam portion is so soft, and it is pitch black. The adjustable strap is really great quality, too. Highly recommended!

I'm a side sleeper too, and I don't like anything touching my eyes either. REI makes the best sleep masks I've ever tried. They're not sold on Amazon so most people don't know about them. They're designed with a soft pad on the lower part of the mask. This helps with light leakage on the bottom, and also creates a space above it so your eyes don't feel pressure. The exact model I have was discontinued but I just ordered two of their new models (Which look similar but are in grey instead of black and look to have a different material) and my hopes are high that they'll be just as good. Early reviews on REI's site are very positive. Side note, I just tried the Plemo memory foam one from Amazon. It looked SLIGHTLY similar to the REI one so I wanted to try it but it's terrible and puts a lot of pressure on the cheek bones and lower eyeballs.

Btw, here's the link if youtube allows it. BTW: It might not work for you since you like to actually open your eyes beneath the mask. Cheers for great review. I usually sleep with a pillow on my head, and often sleep to side, so the peacock blue mask that rubs my eyelids is option for me. Thanks for helping with decision process. Thumbs up

Great review that sleep master looks like sometime I’d be interesting in. I sleep in my side mostly and I absolutely need to have no cavities the light pressure makes my eyes feel rested .

What I want to know is how you get the darn things to stay on when your sleeping. I recently purchased to sleep masks one you pull on, one you tie. The pull on one was cheaper, though they were both cheap. With both models I have tried I have either woken up in the middle of the night or the morning to find that they have fallen off. I don’t know if it’s because I have a big head or the back is not tight enough but it’s kind of annoying. I thought that the sleep masks would make it easier to sleep, which they have, but I don’t like how they won’t stay on. I am considering taking the backs off both Of them and sewing on a bigger elastic piece. On another note, it is so hard to tie the one with the string on, when you put it on and cannot see, but it’s lavender scented so that’s a plus.

The Mindfold for me was a bad experience, the foam is so cheap it was irritating, the plastic cover ended up falling off and feels also so cheap... Still looking for the perfect mask.. thanks for the vid.

Here is the winner for you mister Clever Leverage. Buy a swimming goggles (those small ones, which have separate eye covering parts), they are made to keep water out so they will keep light out also - all of it. You only need to put some light blocking substance on them, and you're done. I put some black tape on mine (to the inside), and that works just fine.

They dig in to your eye sockets... tried this. Also tried a $60 pair of dry eye goggles, same thing. :(

I use them so that I fold one piece of a kitchen roll/towel (that toilet paper type of a product) in half and put that between the swimming goggles and my eyes, so that the goggles feel more soft to my face and do not dig into my eyes. Of course, then the kitchen roll paper will touch our eyelashes if you blink your eyes, but the paper doesn't cause pressure. It's just fine if you just keep your eyes shut. At least I have been sleeping like this for the last 2 years, every night, without any problems. Also, if the goggles are digging into your eyes, try to loosen the adjustable band, so that the goggles are just sitting on your face, and not pushing into it.

That unnecessary effort. A sleeping mask serves this role without you having to continuously use kitchen roll. If it works for you that great, though.

Man that one for the side sleepers looks sooo good, but its so expensive here in Canada. Comes out to over $60 dollars, I think the sleep is worth it but I can't spend that much on a certified face mask just to sleep. Do you have an extra pair I can have or something :P

I'm a side sleeper,total eclipse doesn't bother me at all.I haven't tried all these other ones. Eclipse works for me... little to zero leakage anywhere its totally the foam & tightening the strap. On the internet they looked big & bulky & side sleeping was a concern.They soften up after a while & conform.The eye cavity room was critical for me,making the mistake of using masks touching my eyes that blurred my vision for hours after I awoke & scared the shit out of me.They will trap heat & moisture though...fine with me.
