I have pretty much exactly the same setup, Archer A7 with an RE220. Perhaps not surprisingly, connections through the RE220 do not have anywhere near the same bandwidth as connections directly to the Archer. So far, this has only been noticeable with "speed tests". The only drawback I've found with OneMesh is that the Archer doesn't support it when used in "Wireless Access Point" mode. I have another router, a TP-Link ER605 to "multi-WAN" my home with both Fiber and Cable Internet connections. It's not great "routing my router" but I'll live.

Thank you, I should watch this before I bought Archer C58HP which didn't support OneMesh. Relying on High Gain Wireless Router seems not relevant with today situation, I should use combining Archer C80 with RE200 to get wider 5 GHz coverage.

A very informative and helpful guide... Does OneMesh with Smart Connect Enabled allow WiFi Roaming for Smartphones?
@Behfor
@Behfor 3 года назад
Thanks, WiFi roaming is enabled in OneMesh for every device with or without using smart connect. The smart connect would use the same name and password for the 2.4 GHz & 5 GHz networks. Some people might prefer to have the same WiFi names all across their house so they can enable the smart connect, but others (including myself) might prefer to have different network names so they don't need to enable it. In my case the smart connect even made my roaming worse, so it is definitely something that I know I'm not going to use. I hope this was helpful. Thanks

Can you connect to the RE220 with an wired ethernet as an access point ... and then switch on onemesh?
@Behfor

No the re 220 can only be a node in the onmesh network and as a node it can only be wirelessly connected to the router.

What if i turn off onemesh and use same ssid between router and extender? Does it seamlessly connect?
@Behfor
@Behfor 4 года назад
In that case and in my experience, if the repeater is set up correctly (location wise and configuration wise) the roaming could be usually as seamless as using OneMesh. Thanks.
@jishan17186
@jishan17186 4 года назад
What if i have 2 or more extenders. If there is a power outage and the router came in power at last, having same SSIDs can create a problem of the extenders connecting to each other and resulting no internet. But is this the same if i turn on OneMesh? Will even in OneMesh if there are multiple extenders, will one must connect with router whenever it comes online? And can i setup Router to Extender to Extender to Extender?

Thanks! Disappointing on the results. Just got a A20 on sale and still tempted to get a repeater, though maybe I'm not so disappointed that it doesn't support one mesh. Using Smart Connect, and it's nice, but seems to put my 4k tv and Xbox on the 2.4 GHz when 5 GHz is well in range and can get higher speeds. Keep up the interesting videos. I bet that took some time!
@Behfor
@Behfor 4 года назад
Thank you very much! I actually had the same problem with smart connect and my laptop keeps connecting to 2.4 GHz, it feels like it doesn't have or doesn't do band steering!!
@marciomcm2736
@marciomcm2736 4 года назад
Guys, seeing the tests... I would say the Network would be using the 5 GHz Band as a backhaul and connecting clients via 2.4 GHz, on Smart Connect. 2.4 GHz is slower, but in theory the Network devices using the 5 GHz as a backhaul would allow more Bandwidth for more clients, connecting them on the 2.4 GHz. Just my thoughts. As far as I remember, TP-LINK is one of the brands that doesn't have a dedicated radio for backhaul only, like Linksys.
@NateBraska
@NateBraska 4 года назад
@@marciomcm2736 that could be right. Depending on the TP-Link mesh options, some have dedicated wireless backhaul or powerline backhaul, but of course not the A7 and this repeater. I'm hopeful they add the feature to more routers, such as the A9 or even A20, but at some point a dedicated mesh system would be better.

So onemesh is good for roaming, but bad for speed, btw what is your actual internet speed?
@Behfor

Internet speed has nothing to do with anything here in this video! In this video the local wireless network speed was tested and not Internet!
@loneranger8248

why 2.4GHz never get past 50Mbps, no matter how fast our internet plan is?
@Behfor

2.4 GHz and Internet are 2 different things! It's like you asking why my car cannot go any faster than 100 mph no matter how wide the road is!!!!
@loneranger8248
@loneranger8248 Год назад
@@Behfor Yeah , thanks for replying, I know that, in that car analogy even if the road is very smooth and 50 ft wide if the car top speed is 60MPH then it can't go faster than 60, but my point is if my internet plan is 250 and the 2.4GHz N300 router is claimed to be 300Mbps why it can't transmit more than 40's?
@Behfor
@Behfor Год назад
@@loneranger8248 That 300 Mbps is only theoretical! In real world It is almost impossible to achieve that number for many reasons including the fact that WiFi is only half duplex, it is also a shared medium! There is also wireless noise, interference which would degrade the connection quality. Plus, it also depends on the WiFi capabilities of the client device where you are running the speed test on. I could go on forever but the point is wireless is nothing like wired where you can pretty much guarantee a certain bandwidth.
@johnanthonycolley3803
@johnanthonycolley3803 3 года назад
Everyone believes the speed printed on the box . ( When actually the best speed to the internet can NEVER be faster than the Internet uplink speeds, except between local (LAN) devices,, ) Seems to me that you would have achieved higher speeds by keeping your old router and configuring it as a Access Point, and linking them together using the LAN ports ( Especially if those LAN ports where 1000MBs ones ) I've played with this and discovered that it is possible for multiple access points to have both INDENTICAL named and password without any special " Mesh " Being present, and that best performance is achieved with them setup on different channels .. Enjoy 🤗
