I agree that one should plan for your students by getting to know all of them. We as teachers should make all students feel like they matter. You did a great job by telling us exactly the meaning of student diversity. Thanks, Alex
Even as a teacher now, I still think back to the classes that were hard for me in school and think how they could've been taught differently, either through different teaching styles, assignments, lessons, or accommodations. I keep this in mind whenever I see students not understanding.
I’ve always liked when teachers give background knowledge before the academic task. I feel like it makes the students want to know more and actually be involved in class.😊
Ms. Sauceda, I totally agree with you on Competency 2. You will design instructions and assessments, that promote student learning and take the learning knowledge, of your students and create learning experience.
I appreciate the explanation and time spent on diversity and all the different types of diversity that exist, and also ensuring that we should know and have empathy, which I feel many people lack these days.
I love background knowledge. I think presenting the knowledge to the kids rather it is a video or etc. I always cherished the teachers that made me feel included as a kid, representing the kids cultures is so important
This thing I have found to be the most beneficial to my students, is to give them a chance to express or give me their answer. This can be in a variety of ways. If I feel they understand the material and they express that to me, then they have shown in some cases mastery of the topic.
Absolutely! If you can speak about it, explain something to someone, then you have an internal understanding of that topic. Oral language proficiency is vital and pivotal for student success.
Design and implement instruction that is responsive to the needs of all learners. As a teacher, is important know the students, Take I like this video...
Student diversity is something that makes teaching interesting because no two students are the same. Each student may come from different cultures or socioeconomic backgrounds. Utilizing their diverse skills, interests, desires, and learning preferences can give insight on how they understand the material.
Great examples for this Domain 2 when we understand and plan to create instruction for students diversity. Integrate activities for learning preferences, backgrounds, level of learning, etc.
I like the idea about diversification when it comes to grouping students. Especially for my ELL's, who will definitely benefit from communicating with a native English speaker. This video also helped me take into account cultural and socioeconomic differences, which is a concept that can sometimes lag behind among other important ones.
My hope is that teachers learn to understand that much of this in the classroom is new information for everyone because of how the school system and government makes or allows changes. We have to be as flexible as the students. That cause issues if you are not prepared with this training. You should also give yourselves a pass, or grace, in the moments where you may not respond in ways others may not agree with.
When trying to assess ELL's I felt that I had struggled with where to "label" them. It was a difficult time for me in learning these things on the job but now that I am watching this and understanding the vocabulary that is needed for them to achieve is an important thing that I think you touched on in this video. Also, with looking at the need for diversity within the classroom was a key idea that you have articulated with high importance as well.
One of the most important things in teaching is getting to know your students. Everyone is different and learns differently so student diversity is fundamental.
This is about how important it is to know your students and the diversity of the population in your classroom is essential, not just for the learning experience but to effectively assess understanding. They need to see themselves and their preferences to engage. ethnicity, gender, culture, language, personality and how they best learn. Assess them early and adjust planning and differentiate as needed. Understand their knowledge of and access to technology. Learn more about them and their culture and background. Tying to biodiversity is interesting, mother had C-Diff and this is how they treated her for that. Know the proficiency level standards for ELL's, especially for beginner and intermediate levels. Pre-teach vocab at all levels. Focus, targeted and systematic.
Great breakdown of Competency 2 major takeaways was it's important to meet the learning needs of all students. We must determine their preference and diversity of learning and implement that into the lesson.
Student diversities should be celebrated as a crucial component of a classroom. Diversity refers to all aspects of an individual, not just culture. I think it was important that you mentioned the importance of students seeing themselves throughout everyday curriculum lessons, so they feel a sense of value.
Understanding student diversity and how to plan activities and learning activities and be able to support all students academic growth and development.
Knowing that when it states student's diversity it's not talking about just culture and ethnicity, but learning differences, gender, ages, and so on. That is important to know to help broaden our minds and our thought process when it comes to questions pertaining to this competency.
Diversity amongst students and understanding them is highly important for any teacher, because not everyone that enters the classroom has the same culture and background. So it is important to acknowledge it.
This video helps break down the components of competency 2 which is understanding the diversity of all students in instructional planning and assessments. As teachers we want all our students to learn everything we teach them. Therefore, we have to make the learning process as least frustrating for them in order for all students to want to learn. Competency 2 helps us understand that no student is alike. We need to be able to plan lessons in order for all students to be able to understand, thus we need to understand the diversity of all students. All students have different needs according to there intellectual, social, physical, emotional characteristics. For instance, if we are going to read a book to a group of 3rd graders we need to pre-teach words. And not just the words that the book identifies but as a teacher based on what we know about our students we should be teaching extra words that we know our group would struggle with. Then from there we try to make connections in order for students to build from prior knowledge. And if we are going to group students we need to be mindful of how we create the groups that we create in order for them to have fruitful experiences. Each step from the competency builds from one another in order to make sure that learning is able to be measured.
Understanding student diversity is extremely important when teaching, because not everyone learns the same or has the same opportunities outside of the classroom. So, when we have these students, we need to make sure that we accommodate. In order for them to come close to their full learning potential in our classrooms.
It is crucial to do Instructional planning and assessments based on the diverse backgrounds of students, their interests, their skills and learning needs in order to have a successful learning experience.
Since not everyone learns the same way or has the same opportunities outside of the classroom, teachers must thoroughly understand student diversity. Therefore, we must ensure that we accommodate these students so that they can learn as much as possible in our courses.
I love that you cover the ELL proficiencies and how important they are to the test. I've experienced seeing alot of these Beginner and Intermediate levels.
Teachers should plan diverse experiences for the students and include aspects of the student's background and needs within the classroom. It is also important when planning for the classroom to have a skeletal outline because not every student is the same.
Student diversity is important. Here in the RGV we have 90% are ELLs and also every year students that just arrive to this country. We have to think in all of them.
