Thailand Monkeys are crazy.
The Tiger Cave Temple (Thai: วัดถ้ําเสือ, RTGS: wat tham suea) is a Buddhist temple north-northeast of Krabi, Thailand. A sacred site, it is known for the tiger paw prints in the cave, tall Buddha statues and the strenuous flight of stairs to reach the summit
The foundation of the temple dates back to 1975 (B.E. 2518) when a Vipassana monk named Jumnean Seelasettho (Ajahn Jumnean) went to meditate in the cave. During his meditation, he witnessed tigers roaming around the cave.[2] This discovery led to naming the temple Wat Tham Suea. Another legend says that an actual huge tiger used to live and roam the cave.[3] The naming of the temple also comes from discoveries of a tiger paw prints on the cave walls, and also the bulge of the cave resembling a tiger's paw.[4]

Another comment here; No, we shouldn't let American's into the National parks for free and make other nationalities pay. Aside from the fact that only breeds division, our National Parks already run on a severe deficit. They NEED every dime to maintain the parks. Those fees help maintain roads, campgrounds, fire management, Ranger's salaries (which aren't much considering how much schooling they are required to get to be a Ranger) trails, etc. The list is endless. Vast expanses of wilderness need funding and care. There could be a tiered system based on income, but definitely not a "You are free, you are not". I do think tours, domestic or otherwise, should pay more. Somebody is profiting off of that tour, so they should chip in to sustain the places they visit. If people took a good, unbiased look at what is happening to our public spaces and National Parks here in the US they would be appalled. They are already under threat and underfunded, and lately, the trend is to use and abuse the space. I fear people won't realize the value of what we have in these spaces until we have destroyed and lost them forever.... and that is a very real reality. - Those that disagree generally stand to profit from the destruction, and it is destruction. There is no other name for it.

$9 to go to a beautiful park, seems like a bargain. When I went to Africa almost 17 years ago, I was there on a trip visiting and donating time on a humanitarian mission. The Tanzanian locals told my husband and I not to pay the regular fees to go on Safari, because it would be very expensive since we were foreigners. I don't know how they did it, but they took us to some type of government agency in Dar Saleem, and helped us fill out an application stating we were in the country for 3 weeks for non profit charity work, and not vacationers. Then we were able to book a trip to Mikumi National Park with a two night stay in some luxury tents. It was an amazing stay! We had lions walking down our path to our tent! And they just ignored us. We would have had to pay almost triple if our new friends hadn't helped us. They told us to never pay for travel or trips to anything without having one of them to help us.

Or is it too dangerous? Does it cost? Do you know how much? Is your Thai friend someone you hired to help you see new places and guide you to restaurants and such? And she can speak English for translations? I'm sorry - I didn't catch her name. Maybe you introduced her before and I missed it.

In Costa Rica the monkeys will steal anything, but mostly food. I live in Florida and had a raccoon steal a steak off the table while I was messing with the grill. I also had a pet crow that would sit on my Dad’s shoulder and steal anything he had in his pocket. I would love to see all the things in videos that you mentioned. I can never be there but I can see things you share.

Hay Cory, great idea about the National Park fees. I'm all for the idea, except the parks really need the funds. When I saw the beginning of the video an old saying came to mind. "Some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue" Delete pigeon, insert monkey. Sorry to say I have no affinity for monkeys. To me, every time I think of monkeys, all that comes to mind is Ebola. Maybe there is a secret "Hiking" club that scours the woods looking for stolen items. Now that would be a cool hobby. Like a treasure hunt. Hay, alcoholics have the 12 step program, and you have the 1200 step program. Much healthier. You are doing so well Cory, looking great. Some videos about Thai food would be great. BTW have you tried the national dish yet.......Balut....Do a video on that. Good luck on all your new journeys.

This is actually in response to your should-i-quit-video... If you like being a creator on RU-vid, then just keep doing it. Don't let the haters get you down. It's so easy for faceless, keyboard warriors who've never created anything to watch half a video, make a snap judgment, and pound out some drive-by, snarky comment that makes the commenter feel superior to the creator they're thrashing. That says more about them than you. Just delete them from your life and move on. Create for those who are inspired by your story of wanting to lose weight, wanting to be a good dad, wanting to be in a loving relationship, and wanting to share your positivity and travels with the world. Just do you... :)

I agree with you, however over time it just builds up. It some how turned into a dark cloud for me. The last straw was a wave of comments came in that said I never see my sons. Because the videos went from Alaska to Thailand. I get someone being curious but the assumptions were just insane. Apparently one comment got to the top about that rumor and it spread like wild fire. I made a whole video showing my kids and explaining parenting schedule but never published it. I showed it to my family and nobody was happy that it came to the point I need to justify anything to strangers. And strangers don’t need to see videos of my children. So yeah just take a step back for now from this channel. I will release a video on my other channel hopefully today.

Cory, just make videos. You don’t need to ask us what we want. Most of us don’t know what we want ....life is too crazy right now. Just post and we will watch. You have an amazing ability to push yourself and it seemed like you really grew a lot during this past year.

Thank you and take everything with a grain of salt. I felt like for 3 months I asked her a million scenarios. Like what if after a year a good opportunity opened up in the USA or another Country. Or Christmas and summers in America. I was looking for any red flags for the future. Thailand should be a great opportunity for me to have a higher quality of life and make money. Traveling especially to Alaska and the Artic circle was so expensive even if living in a jeep. hiking with a Thai also really helped me realize it was the right choice and a good sign. The Alaskan Thai had 3 jobs and hiking a mountain with us. I was so impressed. So I got to talk to her about my relationship and she gave amazing advice. So stop traveling for a little while sounds nice and build a future. There is one project I need to finish so maybe even step back on RU-vid and finish it. Also it’s wild to have indoor plumbing again hehe.

Thanks for the great response. You are a smart fellow and I am sure you have attempted to cover as many bases as you possibly can. And you probably know that those of us who have traveled the high and low roads with you have your best interest at heart. Probably protective of you as well. You may not need it but nevertheless none of us want you to go through those painful patches again. It hurts us as well since it is easy to relive our own pains. Even though those times really promote a lot of growth. That being said, talk to us about opportunities InThailand. How can one earn money there? What are living expenses like? It seems many Americans can retire there and live fairly well on much less. Other than the pesky monkeys what other challenges are you experiencing? All of these things about living in this totally new culture is of interest. I don’t know the parameters that RU-vid requires of you but as far as I am concerned all of your experience is film and post worthy. You have an opportunity to be an ambassador of sorts in this unique position. Since my emphasis are studies in cultural geography and sociology, learning about your grassroots first hand experience is making me want to have you post more often. All of it is new and interesting. The living conditions, money exchange, food, agriculture, climate, .....art, music. family values and customs.....things you like, things you don’t and why. See what I mean? Just post and we will read. Please don’t leave RU-vid. You are one of the few from the days of the PCT that still post and it has been so welcome during this wretched time during past many months. Doesn’t matter if it is happy snd cheerful or full of tears and emotion (most of us have been experiencing that, too, during this time) you have helped us to not feel alone as we face the unknown and ourselves in an unprecedented time. Bless you, Cory💖

Very great response back. And yeah I first was telling my family I was moving to Thailand in 2012 lol. So it’s such a long time dream I just finally went for it. I took a culture and behavior psychology class and found I relate a lot to the collective society because of my own upbringing. So oddly maybe why it feels like Thailand and way they view family as fascinating comforting. I signed 2 different non disclosures now so certain things I just cannot talk about.

I get the extra fees for tourists in counties where locals make wages that are a fraction of western countries. Locals can’t afford to pay more but should enjoy their own resources. As those resources cost to maintain and protect, why not charge foreigners a fee that they can easily afford and helps the local cause?
@Emoji-ATTrailangel

The temples there are extremely ornate. It’s their church, people come from the far corners of the world to see their churches, basically. I’m sure there are costs incurred because of all this tourism to these temples. I can see why they might charge foreigners. But the national Parks, I think everyone who is blessed should contribute equally to their preservation and upkeep. Such beautiful artistry in those temples😎. Cory you are a guy acquainted and intrigued with the wonder in life. What ever stokes your wonder would be of interest to me. Monkey story: My husband, my son, and I, along with my dog, were canoeing on the Silver River, in Fl, upstream into the Silver Springs attraction to check it out from the river. There are Rhesus monkeys still in the woods there in the park from the Tarzan movies that they filmed there many years ago, with Johnny Wisemiller, as Tarzan. When those monkeys saw my dog they went crazy, they hated the dog. I thought they were going to jump in the boat after us. Needless to say we paddled faster to get away from them.

Stealing monkeys are a big problem in many areas. I guess they associate people with food. Either because they feed them or leave food remnants in the waste. From there, if they don't get stopped effectively , it gets worse and worse. In some places you can't even leave the window open as monkeys will enter and steal unless there is a solid grid/gauze preventing monkeys from entering/reaching in. Have seen monkeys steal entire bags, opening them and going through to find food. Sometimes monkeys cooperate to steal, one detracting you with another from another direction using the detraction to grab whatever they can. I've the impression they generally prefer to steal from women and children as they are smaller and look less fierce. The dogs are actually specially trained to protect certain areas from monkeys. Personally never lost anything to monkeys, but they can certainly be a big challenge. I've however been 'molested' by a Galada Baboon in Ethiopia. I was taking pictures from the monkeys grazing and playing, then suddenly one grabbed me from behind between the legs.....
@JoannaRedmond
@JoannaRedmond 2 года назад
Costa Rica monkeys definitely steal, too. I was in a jungle beach house for a month, and they were constantly getting into our fruit, etc. I think it's just years of them knowing they can find good stuff in the bags and out of the bottles. Can you use a hydration pack at all? I'd love to see the islands, your house, more temples, daily Thai life, etc. When you said there were tigers, I got scared for a moment thinking there would be tigers in cages, so just for my own personal triggers, I don't like to see animals in cages or people riding elephants, etc. I'm sure there are cool sanctuaries there, tho (real ones don't let people pet or ride the animals), like I've seen in Costa Rica. Pretty much anything you put out, I'd watch! You look great, and it seems like your quality of life is great, and I'm just over here in Northern CA wishing you the best, as always! 🧡💙🧡

Oh Thais do love food and making it. All spicy lol. The biggest issue was complying with government covid PCR test on day 7. That was the most culture problem I had. Even with a translator informing a government hospital this is required by the government the hospital still refused to comply. The one did an ATK test and I told them it was wrong and they said it’s good enough and go away. Once I made it to Krabi the hospital understand completely and got the correct PCR covid test. They have private hospitals but according the the rules I had to do it at a government hospital. It was wild and yeah I learned not to go to government hospitals lol.

That's not unusual at all that residents of a country or city get in free while everybody else pays. I can see Thai's getting in free because they are Thai's. I remember in Paris, France, I think residents of either the city of Paris or the country of France get to go to the museums for free. Not unusual, and the Thai's know that what's $9 or $10 to us in the western world, is equivalent to $1 to them, bc of their low wages and the lower cost of living. It sounds like you are having a good time with your fiance' in Thailand...yeah, I would love to see what $30 a night gets you in Thailand, Cory. And I thought you made a full-time income from YT (and Patreon)...or at least maybe enough to live there, if you live like a Thai?
