Hi there Glad you have what you wanted ( your retirement visa) it is a bit stressful the first time as you don’t know if it will happen or not , I’ve done mine almost 2 years ago and renewed it in December , second time there was no stress as I knew what to expect , it was a busy day at the immigration office and took around 3.5 hours , but I have nothing but time here in Thailand so it was ok , the cost of doing your visa yourself is 1900 Thai baht around £41 or $52 , plus 200 baht for the bank paperwork which takes around 15 minutes to get from my branch of bank , 30 minutes to fill in paperwork with the aid of English speaking trainee immigration officers , 5 minutes to have it pre checked then given a number to sit with an immigration officer and he/she does the rest , you really don’t need to be paying agents for this fairly simple task, my 90 day check in takes less than 2 minutes every time I’ve been and I have never filled out any paperwork for it , I hand my passport over with the slip of paper in it , they remove it and within a few seconds my new one is clipped back into my passport and I’m on my way again , I think too many people listen to all the wrong experts in bars or on RU-vid , and immediately jump on the agent bandwagon, I know some people are too busy at the bar all day long to deal with this but if I can do it anyone can , Have a great day , regards Davy 🏴🇹🇭
Thank you for your comment. I had a LOT to deal with moving to Thailand for the 1st time and using an agent took a lot of stress off me. Next year to renew I will also do it myself when like you, I have time and no rush. Cheers 👍
@@DiscoveringThailandMay I ask how much you paid Assist Thai Visa for the visa? I think doing it via an agent when first arrived in Thailand is a good idea. It's a whole new world and settling in a new country takes some time plus some level of stress. Just wondering how much you spent for their service? Thank you.
I believe the retirement crisis will get even worse. Many struggle to save due to low wages, rising prices, and exorbitant rents. With homeownership becoming unattainable for middle-class Americans, they may not have a home to rely on for retirement either.
Got it! Buying stocks during a recession when prices are down could be a good move. You might get them at a lower price and sell later when they go up. Just do your homework and be aware of the risks before diving in!
@@JasonStathamOffical She appears to be well-educated and well-read. I ran a Google search for her name and came across her website; thank you for sharing.

@@SantiagoWyatt- That's awesome! Investing in stocks with a reliable trading system can lead to great outcomes. It's fantastic that you've been working with a financial advisor for a year now. Starting with less than $200K and being just $19,000 away from making half a million in profit is impressive! Keep up the good work!
The word 'retirement' is used, but it is NOT retirement. It should be called a 'scam' visa. Retirement, in other countries actually, really means "RETIREMENT". In the Philippines, it is done once, ... "one time", then you can retire, without 90 day 'reporting', that's for convicts on parole. And not having to do it every year, because that's Thai bullsh*t. All those freelance agents, making a killing, with the Immigration staff 'on the take'. Also in the Philippines, that money in the bank, as part of the requirement, after 6 months of qualificatoon, can be used in the Philippines, even for the unencumbered purchase of property, entirely in your own name, not the "Thai wife" industry. As a a retiree, you can come and go from the Philippines just as local citizen does. It's done, you're in, so you relax, and enjoy retirement. IT'S DONE! .. In Thailand, it means they've got their hooks into you, Sicily has the Mafia. Thailand just call it something else. No quarter given to the elderly. Slip up and you're out. It's an annual game with 90 day parole reporting.
In most ways you are correct ! Unfortunately I don't want to live in the Philippines, I love it here in Thailand and just have to go with it. Thanks for your comparison/ opinion.
I live in Bangkok and use a visa agent for my retirement visa renewals. Cost 1X,XXX baht, don't need funds in the bank or 65,000 baht per month. I send them 2 pics, copies of whatever they want, no forms to fill in (they do that for me). About 2 weeks later, I received my passport back with a nice new shiny visa in it. Life is grand.
Nice video -- You did not explain this about wise -->. Wise isn’t a bank, however, Wise is a trusted Money Services transmitter that is regulated by Federal and State regulators. In the US Wise holds 48 state licenses as a money transmitter, and where it doesn’t hold a license it works with banking partners to deliver services, depending on where you’re located¹. Wise is also overseen by regulatory bodies in a range of other countries. As a digital company, Wise has been built with security in mind and operates a selection of industry standard manual and automatic security measures. Banks and credit unions are overseen and regulated by local, regional and global bodies. Because banks offer additional services compared to Wise - such as credit and loans - they may be subject to additional regulation and licensing requirements.
They have not given you "extra" 13 days, they have cut off the remaining days on your original 90 day visa at your passport expiry date. Had your passport not been expiring then you would have got the 1 year extension to your 90 days.
@@trippontwowheels Good luck, you can do it! Part of why my timeframe is far away is I have a couple of older cats and it wouldn't be fair for me to take them all around SEA travelling.
You need to have at least 6 months on your passport renew it prior to December immigration won't stamp anything but a departure stamp in one with less than 6 months on it!
I think that you were crazy to leave both your passport and bank passbook with an agent. It seems you were lucky and have a good agent but there are many nightmare stories out there regarding bogus agents.
should have renewed your passport before leaving Aust ... a lot easier that way and then you have it for 10 yrs .. a lot less drama for you personally , less headache
many country not have 10 year passport today , has many change only 5 year can make. i has make in thailand 3 time new passport expensive fly to bangkok go embassy make papers wait new passport one month and then have new need go to immigration move all stamp old to new passport and lot work.
@@mattivirta , I'm talking about the person who put the video up ... not you ! the person who put the video up is Australian and can get a 10 yr passport ... ok
Immigration used to be at promenada.. place is derelict now.. always a faff though in regards to visas.. I was there during COVID.. absolute nightmare.. anyway enjoy your time in CM.
Been in Chiang Mai since 1977m then you walked into immigration at the same location it is today but an older building, as there were only 500 foreigners in Chiang Mai and most of them were US Conciliate workers, DEA and US Missionaries. The process took 10 minutes with a fee of 500 Baht. They even offered water while you waited. The Wife had to come along with all her documents. Then mass tourism ruined Chiang Mai., then it was a sleepy little town with no cars, few tourists and a charm to the slow pace of a life now sadly in the past. A Thai man would show off his money to the women by putting down his Ray Ban sunglasses and smoking a Marlboro, which were expensive and illegal at the time. and ordering a bowl of noodles. He thought and the girls did too, that he was a catch.
So now you have the money in your bank/let's say /$ 29,000. after I year you need to still have $ 29,000 After 2 years you still have to top it up. after 3 years do you still have to keep $ 29.000 in the bank for the rest of your life? if so that seems crazy. why does a person have to sit on the money till they die? that's no fun ...lol if you could check on that it would be appreciated Thanks
As long as you want to renew each year you need to show that min amount.... Many just leave it there and open another bank or account to keep living expenses in.
@@draiggochherp not need, if you have papers income money retiree salary have more than 65K not need bank account 800K. BUT all immigration office NOT accept this. i has test, and want i have ewery year in bank account this 800K. bank need take sameday paper to immigration, not old day accept.
@@mattivirta Yes you do need 800k for the first extension (unless your Embassy issues the income affadavit), the 65k can be used for subsequent extensions

Yes.. I worked for years in Australia (all my life) and paid all my taxes. I don't think they will tax my savings to come here and live on those savings.
assistthaivisa.com/ Visit them, You can Email them or chat with them on Facebook messenger, give them your details and what your individual requirements are and they will let you know the cost. Easy 👍
Every agent has a different price schedule, In addition costs depend on which visa you're after and which country you're from. You'd have to call and get an estimate.

Hi Peter, thanks for the video, but can you tell me how I should I start applying since I am not in Thailand yet, my funds are not there either, and have no bank accounts there, so where to start?? Thanks
If you're using an agent when you get there, they can arrange a thai bank account. You just open a wise account, for example, to transfer funds. Email assist thai visa .. both links in the video description. Also, arrive on a 60 day Visa exemption. Email me if you have other questions.
Love your videos just subscribed, I'm planning to use Thai ASSIST Visa as well they have a great reputation. 1 question how long from start to finish did it take to get your retirement visa
You should of got a brand new passport it takes a month to get a new passport well the uk 🇬🇧 it’s 4 weeks or longer not sure about the Australian embassy make sure you bought your birth certificate
Good question. I dont know what the extension of stay (retirement visa) cost if you get it without an agent. Maybe someone reading this can answer... maybe just 1900 baht like the other extensions.
Very informative video - if I may ask - What happens if You want to visit your home country and how many times can you do that in a year and how long can you stay out of Thailand on such visits ? Best of Luck on your journey with the new visa and keep these videos coming
Hello, You can leave as often as you like as long as you like, just make sure you get a re-entry stamp before you leave ( at the airport or immigration) .You can be out of Thailand as long as you like just be back for the 12mth renewal. You can get a( Retirement ) Visa that includes multiple entries.
A quick question. Sorry if you jave covered this before but when you arrived and applied for your retirement visa how did you arrange for the bank accoint as I believ that you can not open an account on an exemption.
@@DiscoveringThailandwas it the same agent you mentioned above? I would gladly pay $200 for help with that, but I think I can handle the rest of the paperwork myself. Someone else mentioned $63k baht ($1700+) for an agent to do his paperwork! Ouch.
Can I come to Thailand on 60 day visa exempt with no return flight if I explain I will be applying for retirement visa.? What's everyone's experience in regards to entering on 60 day without return flight.
Even though they may never ask, its only about $100 for a exit ticket flight to Cambodia to show on your phone " Just in Case" after all it is a requirement to have proof of onward travel.
thanks for the video!!! just to get this straight, after you get approved for a retirement visa every 90 days you still must report back with immigration. Every year you must renew your retirement visa. Is this correct?
who need ??? normal men not need newer, simple job, add apply form, go bank and take account palance paper to visa 200 B and go immigration and pay 1900 baht and passport, ready, not need newer agent.
@@DiscoveringThailand thank you. I was looking at that platform last week. I liked it. What plan are you on or what would you suggest? It’s not free, at least I don’t think. Thanks again.
I think you’re right about having to do the 90 day check in, in person after renewing your retirement visa. My online check in was just rejected. I extended my visa in April.
@@DiscoveringThailand great thanks, I've seen contradictory comments by lawyers online but the Government website doesn't mention age - good to hear from someone who's actually done it 👍
Hey Peter have you looked into how the Aussie pension is paid if you are living in Thailand or anywhere overseas? Like you I am moving to Thailand next year and will access my super as I will be 60. That should last me until I am 67 when I want to get the pension BUT I was told to qualify for the pension you have to had lived in Australia for the previous 2 years! I am also trying to find out whether you can live in a country Australia has a pension agreement with like Japan or Portugal for example.
I have not looked into it much and have heard many versions. Last thing I want it to have to go back for two years! For me its 10 years away and even if I knew it could change over that time... If your in Australia maybe give them a call... Contacting Centerlink from here is almost impossible.. Currently you can get the full pension without health care and other extras.. I think its about $1100 a fortnight, that's 26500 baht... that's a lot over here :)
@@DiscoveringThailand cheers Peter! yeah me too I have heard a lot of different versions and you're right it would be a real pain to have to go back to Australia for 2 years once you are established there in Thailand. Does anyone know the real answer here? I am turning 59 this year so next year I will move to Thailand or the Philippines and like you I won't have to really think about it until I am around 65 so I will have 5yrs at least not worrying about it and you're right maybe by then the rules will change. So bloody expensive here I can't wait to get the hell out!
@@ralphynetau thanks mate..I actually read you can also live in one of the countries Australia has a social security agreement with did you know that? Thailand is not one of those countries unfortunately but there are other interesting countries like Chile and Portugal and Japan.
A Non-O retirement Visa has no insurance requirement and is available from within Thailand or from an Embassy/Consulate. A Non-OA retirement visa is only available from the Embassy/Consulate of the country you reside and does have an insurance requirement as does the 12 month exensions ontained within Thailand.
Hi I'm thinking about buying a visa elite I have a few questions If I have a company in Dubai will I have to pay tax in Thailand or is there any way around this? I have heard that the tax is on the transfer. If I withdraw money directly at an ATM via revolut and not send it to a Thai account then I will not pay tax?
only idiot pay elite visa because have "scam visa" not different than normal 1 year visa, need do sam paper work ewery year and 90 day report ewery 90 day not have anythink "elite" waste only money lot this scam.
