Namaste, Watch this video of Thar Petrol Automatic to know my review and detailed impressions. I drove the car for 2100 km before making this video. I have explained why this 2-liter petrol engine is a better choice for off-road enthusiasts and for those who drive less. I have also discussed few points that Mahindra should improve in the all-new Mahindra Thar 2020.

There’s no clutch in the petrol automatic, Gagan. That function is performed by the torque converter. It’s an eager coupling that lurches forward on crawl.

Surprisingly, my 7 month old Petrol AT Thar doesnt lurch forward at all. It is an eager engine. And its torque ensures an excellent low end. And its engine power ensures an excellent top end. One does not feel any lack of power at all. Saying that, it ought not to be driven at very high speeds. Ideally one ought to maintain the 90-110 range on the highways. This is not really a superbly fuel efficient vehicle especially if one has a happy right foot. However, if one drives responsibly using the AT box, in the city one can expect 8-9kmpl and on the highways one can pull 10-11 kmpl. In the hills going up and down it is more likely 7-9 kmpl. This is not a fuel efficiency gold standard but it is immensely satisfying to drive and makes one feel invincible in many ways because of its driving position and overall height and ground clearance. Especially on our Indian roads.

Wo aage jaane waala happened with me, I booked Thar petrol from zoom and it was brand new, first time ever I drove this mammoth for ~ 600 km and what an amazing powerful vehicle Mahindra has created - 1. Over the ghats you will feel like babubali is pushing you from behind, no lag at all and I was seeing other vehicles were really struggling and people were shifting gears to compensate that lag, literally Thar 4x4 wheel rules over ghats and that will definitely put wide smile on your face. 2. Visibility - This is something would like to thank you Mahindra, you have complete visibility plus the side mirrors are wide enough to capture the rear view, basically the height and position of the driver seat is perfectly done. 3. The version which I took was having key to open the petrol mini door, I felt that so much unique, hahaha 🤣 like yeah and when you get down people just look at you and your car. 4. I got down for having dinner at an amazing place, people stopped looking at Mercedes Benz, BMW or any other luxury car, they were just staring at THAR. 5. The vehicle was jumping on bumpers, not sure but over the bumps the ride were not smooth but I recommend to drive slowly over bumps. 6. Electronics were fine and I did not face any issues. 7. Headlight - we drove at mid night, so I felt the lights were not strong enough seems like some upgradation needed in terms of headlight, I thought my headlights were off while driving but when I checked it was on 😂 so here some customisation is required. 8. The over all experience was amazing and I believe you will not get disappointed by buying this car, but I think two or three people are ok not sure about having 4 people, but yes keeping huge luggage is for sure going to take some additional space. 9. Some additional efforts required to press the horn 🙃 So far I have driven - Honda WRV, Tata Nexon, Toyota Etios, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Grand i10 sports/i20, Ford I loved Thar among these all in terms of - Driving comfort, Long drives, Control of vehicle, Visibility, it makes you king of road. Thank you !

They are made in house by complete Indian tech and are just as reliable an engine can be. Mahindra's engine can survive decades after decade.

@@arnavsoni8579 Yes indeed. Faisal Khan is such a biased reviewer now. He treats Tata cars as if they are made out of gold and treats Mahindra cars as if they are shit. Look how he slams shut the bonnet of the Thar in his petrol review. He has also commented on Tata Nexon's crash test video but he hasn't commented on XUV300's video.

At 5:50 you talk about clutch being on the bite point, since this is a torque converter, these vehicles do not have clutch but fluid coupling so there is no clutch burning there. But a very good review overall.

To the point. Concise, no nonsense review. Thank you so much. Gagan ji, at around 11:55, you say "headache kam hogi Petrol mein". Please elaborate what problems you were referring to ? Is this line in comparison to the Diesel engine? If yes, then what problems exactly. (Genuine query)

Hi, at 6min u mentioned Transmission is always eager to move ahead and clutch is in biting position....well this is Automatic transmission with Torque convertor...and has no clutch...so there is nothing to worry about clutch burning....take my words....u can brake and stop the car in D mode for whole day without worrying of any damage...

Being a lifestyle product THAR deserves an EV variant. IF ever Mahindra launches one it would blow the market in India as it would be easily the best lifestyle daily driver for city drive. And its just a matter of time that India gets proper EV charging infra all over its highways. THAR EV would be a real delight for many.

There is no clutch in an torque converter gearbox, the reason why it surges ahead when you leave the brake is due to long brake pedal travel and brakes are not that good.

Planning to buy ertiga for family purpose. The variant I am looking for is VXi/ VXi AMT. Which one will I consider? This will be my first car. My plan is, after buying the car, will add the instrument cluster, rear parking camera etc whatever is missing. Is it good to buy an automatic with 4 gear only? Mostly will use in City. With BS6 Phase 2 RDE being enforced from April 1st 2023, Diesel Engines are getting more complicated in Exhaust Monitoring and Exhaust Management (SCR + DPF + Adblu + More Electronics + More Sensors + More Software). If one does not drive more than 100km per day or limits to around 150-200kms per week, seems like Petrol is the right choice considering that one would retain the vehicle for 15 years. More simple the engine and its electronics, more it lasts.

But isn't it a torque converter? Then why clutch burn? TC don't have clutch. TC has no physical contact between engine and transmission. It is a fluid driven TC that transfers power to the transmission.

Mine is at 22000 KM.. petrol automatic. It gives a kind of heat near paddle area . The plastic is heated near the gear level. I feel it on my foot constantly. If something is wrong ??

#gaganbhai Why did engine rev at high rpm but when we shift at higher gear ie 5th so why it didnot rev at same rpm as 1st gear even after a lot of time in full throttle?

That's the petrol automatic which he his talking about right.... How the clutch point , clutch burning comes into the picture here.. Further that's the creep function of the automatic transmission which lets user creep at low speeds in traffic like conditions without frequently giving the acc pedal input..

Bro this is not AMT, it doesn't have any clutch. Its torque converter which runs through turbine and pressurised oil without any actual bite or contact. So less wear and tear.

Bhaiya ji Torque converter mien fluid coupling hoti hai , clutches andar hote hai . Jyada worn out nhi hoga clutch.
