This is one of the best LIVE performances I've heard, of one of my favorite JB songs. Summer of 1980, drinking a beer with a beautiful young girl in a pub on Nantucket Island , when " She was a friend to me when I needed one" came out of the jukebox. I was thunderstruck, yeah buddy, young and in love..Thanks Jackson, it was a moment! Glad you're playing it again, it's a wonderful song.
In the Spring of 2017 when Valerie Carter died , Jackson Browne confided to an audience that he wrote this song for her and that he had loved her for many years.
@@guitarbo1 Good to know. Turns out song writers Will Jennings and Tom Jans were good friends with Valerie and inserted her name in this song. Not nearly as interesting as the thought that Steve Winwood loved her.
@@rmw837 Agree. A backup singer shouldn't try to outdo the lead singer especially when you are only fair, at best. Tone it down. Doubt she ever got another gig with JB .
To a girl that helped me get through a break up of someone I loved for seven year's. Donna you saved me in the 80's your love was divine thank you for ever. Hope you found the right man. Wishing you peace divine! JB sings a song by that very name, it's on yt.
I truly wish the background singer would remain a background singer, and not interject unnecessary "garbage" / vocals to the performance. When I go to see an artist perform, I want to hear the songs as close to the original recordings as possible. The woman doing back-up vocals just f_cked it all up. Otherwise, a great performance
