The magic and priviledge of a library card. I still remember that small thin cardboard card, with my name typed on it. I was so proud to have it, and use it. I must have been around ten years old when I first got a library card.

Penny Marshall plying the library assistant, just getting her start. I first noticed her when she played Oscar Madison's secretary Myrna, on the Tv Show the Odd Couple. That show ran from 1970 to 75 i believe, but the Myrna character was only on it from 1972-74

It wasn't until 1968 when states began lowering the voting age below 21. So, it is possible that a person would have had been able to vote for the first time when they were 23 or 24. And she could have been a teacher when she was younger (as shown in the first season's Christmas episode flashback) since teaching training programs were usually one to two years before education reform kicked in. And by the way, Marlo Thomas was born in 1937...making her 29 when the show began. She just looked young enough to be in her early 20s.

Wasn't she is her mid 20s in the show? Shouldn't she have voted already? The thing I hate about old sitcoms is they have no real chronology or history of the characters. If she moved to NYC 2 years ago that would make her 19 when would she have had time to be a teacher before that?

yet another episode featuring Ann's unlikeable, selfish and meddlesome father. Either the actor that plays him has great contacts on the show or the writers are really unimaginative and running out of fresh ideas.
@amyfitts2447
@amyfitts2447 Год назад
That's his character. It's not something that changes from episode to episode. Not sure how old you are but there are many people out there like that especially back in the day. And even farther back than that. The writers are not unimaginative nor do they lack fresh ideas. This is how they wrote him and that's how he stays for the entire series.
@jvcomedy
@jvcomedy Год назад
@@amyfitts2447 sorry, but I have to disagree with you. I understand that characters stay the same throughout a series however they never change the plot when he's in it. It's always him meddling in Ann's life and him not liking Don.The entire episode revolves around that same theme. The settings may be different from episode to episode, but the basic idea doesn't.Same story with just a different setting. I find it boring and unimaginative. It's just my opinion. Doesn't mean I'm right or wrong as it's an opinion. I have noticed in the 5th and final season he has become a little less annoying so I'm wondering if they got similar feedback and were trying to soften his character and shift gears a little. BTW, I'm older than Ann's father is in this show.
@amyfitts2447
@amyfitts2447 Год назад
@@jvcomedy that's my point. He is the same throughout the entire series. His whole focal point is his daughter and he has strong opinions. Yes he does meddle and he doesn't like her boyfriend Donald. I understand what you're saying with regard to the different plots each time he is in one show. I don't think they ever intended for him to have any other storyline. However in some of the episodes I've seen lately, he has changed a bit, which you mentioned he did in season 5; he acknowledges Ann being more of an adult capable of making her own decisions and acknowledges he is difficult. Of course he could have had more of an input on his character due to his contacts on the show. It would be interesting to discuss this with the creators.
