Oh no! Dan is sick and unable to get out of bed! So we decided that rather than leave you show-less this week (nope, we had nothing in the can), Mick took a solo flight to talk about… Uni-Vibes. Or at least pedals based on the venerable UniVox Uni-Vibe, made famous by lots of players, not least Robin Trower and Jimi Hendrix.

With the Fulltone, I used to use it after the distortion, depending if its more of a sustain drive like a Wampler ego, or if it’s distortion like a silver arrow. I have been using it before any distortion lately. Using a noise gate at the end of the chain -before it goes into stereo fx that split into marshals half-stacks with 2 amps operating in stereo mode. I find that the stereoBoss DC-2w waza chorus-like box is pretty kewl to send to 2 different heads. Set it - forget and leave it on. There’s my two cents. By the way I’ve had here Marshall’s forever and been collecting pedals since the 70s (read I’m old) 😁

Damn that is the best Univibe Hendrix type tone and playing on the internet. Mick is in his comfort zone here and it smokes. I have a Berkos Third Stone II Pedal incoming and after watching this I know I have to have the Fulltone Mini-DejaVibe to pair with it. This is a whole style and sound of its own. I can’t wait to get my fuzz and vibe running through my Mesa Lone Star. Thanks Mick ! This rips !

I got a Moen "Shaky Jimi" Uni-Vibe, and with the time playing it I've realized it sounds best at the beginning of the chain, and also with 9volt batteries it sounds much better than with a power supply, I only use batteries for gigs thought.

Cool video. I do like the sound of the Uni-Vibe before the OD. Definitely smoother sounding. But there is something about the "Hendrix" way of doing things that's kind of addictive.

I keep coming back to this video! I've seen it five times at least. While That Pedal Show will always be my favorite show, I like this iteration. Mick is GREAT on his own. You COULD do two type of shows. Cause a standalone Mick is absolutely wonderful!

Same, this is viewing no.4 for me. I just got a couple of new Fuzzes and a KOT clone. Looking into replacing my digital Univibe (Digitech Ventura, cool pedal) with an old-school photocell model. The Deja Vibe mini Mk.2, JHS Unicorn, and Voodoo Lab Micro Vibe are in the shortlist. Deja Vibe is damn expensive tho!

Ok, first off that intro sounded friggin awesome, nice playing! This is the sound, I mean THE sound. I didn't know where Hendrix put his in the chain but my ear is telling me that the fuzz being first seems off. Either way, vibe first in line is my choice, it has a much fuller effect when it hits the overdrive. I use The Worm by EHX and while it is no deja vibe it has a lot of versatility. Great video!

Great settings for the univibe right at the start of this video. My default settings for the the Deja Vibe, which is always on in my rig, are Volume and Intensity Maxed, and the Speed at the lowest. But this works very well too, gets the real Hendrix growl. Mick sounds great here.

About 4 years ago, I inherited a Boss PN-2 Temolo pedal that give me itch that it couldn't scratch! Although it's a great pedal in it's own right, I had to have a Leslie simulator. So I bought a "Dunlop Rotovibe" which is a great pedal, or was until I plugged 1 Spot wall wart into it and blew out the resistor. I've since found out that this is a common problem and it can be fixed I just haven't got around to it as it was a bit annoying. But I went through some of my older Rack unit's and found that the Rotory setting on the "Alesis Nanoverb" will work with a Johnson J3 pedal that I had just lying around waiting to be used, but not much versatility such as fast to slow, ramping or slow!! Just on and off. Next up was a $30 Pawn Shop Special, the "DOD 3 Dimension" rack, which will go Fast and Slow with moderate ramping with the Alesis wall wart, and the Johnson J pedal. The problem here is the annoying grounding hum which kind sounds better if you isolate the unit away from other rack units! So next Craigslist provided me with a "VOCE Spin" Once I got the manual, It turned out to be a great half rack stereo unit with a dedicated guitar input. It has a standard wall wart and works off the Johnson J3 pedal controlling fast/slow/brake internal ramping. The not so obvious problem with the VOCE Spin is the 2 outputs. Out 1 is Mono!! Out 2 is a stereo ring tip thing that will hum if you plug in a mono jack think it is only out 2, which is why I got it for $75. The guy was frustrated, as was I until I bought the Boss and then found the VOCE manual online. It has overdrive control, instrument control Output control and a MIDI selector and control for 15 different Leslie presets. I'm using it with my Keyboards At this point(about 6 months ago) I went to the local music store and got a close out price on a Boss RT-20 That does it all!! Ramping up/down control, variable fast, variable slow, over drive effect level, instrument level and 4 selectable modes a very nice pedal.

Thanks, next morning i'm totally gonna go reorder my pedalboard of about 15 pedals until i find where i like the uni vibe the most. Year ago i played distortion -> uni vibe -> overdrive and now i'm playing uni vibe -> distorition -> overdrive. Now i feel like i completely miss something about uni vibe sound. So here goes a reordering day.
