Heeeck yes, The Veiled Throne is such an amazing book. And I totally agree on the cooking competition, it was the perfect break for me from all the intense stress, because I am usually more of a cozy reader anyway hahah. Anyway, I can assure you that Speaking Bones is a phenomenal finale, I am still thinking about the events in that book 2 years on. Also, my biggest mandela effect is that Mickey Mouse's costume doesn't have suspenders... I SWEAR it did!! Lol 🤣

Can’t wait to try Recursion! I’m almost done with Grace of Kings and can’t wait to see the style change in the next book-what incredible set up in this one! 1984 is a GOAT book, and thanks for putting the new audio on my radar-I’m def gonna do that format for my reread. Love seeing all these overlaps between is right now-I’ll be reading Shards of Honor next myself!

Shazam definitely happened. lol. I can't wait to jump into PDK and Ubik is what I'm going with. I can't believe you read Malazan a few times. lol. That's nuts. Hope all is well brother.

Agree with your thoughts about Veiled Throne (got a little spoilery there though 😜) but I think you're gonna love Speaking Bones. I also just started Vorkosigan!

I read Shards of Honor this month and I am now a LBM fan ❤ I will get back to DD someday. I've finished 6 series on my quest to finish 10 that I already own 🤪 May was mostly Anthony Ryan, John Scalzi and Benedict Jacka's Alex Verus. I finished Iconoclasts and it is disturbingly good. I hope to get to a reread of Utopia before June and I'm kinda in the mood for more Marc Tufo 🤓🤪

Ever since you told us one of your favorite Black characters is from "Malazan", I decided to try the first book, but in my first language as everyone says it is so complicated.

I’m always here for m’boy Dark-O. 😀 Hah! You’re right, that Shazam never happened. Not on Sinbad’s IMDB filmography, anyway. I must be from a different timeline than you. Oh wait, that’s Dark Matter. Keep going on Malazan mate! You can do it! I also took 2 runs at it before it really clicked and I binged all 10. Write me any time for a Malazan nerd-out. Can’t wait to get started on Dandelion Dynasty, but I’m in the middle of so many series right now, I probably have to hold myself back until next year.

Oh yeah, and Vorkosigan is a lot of fun. 🙂 If you want more sci-fi series, I can’t recommend the Hyperion Cantos by Dan Simmons highly enough - 4 books all told. I also just finished the penultimate book of Sub Eater today, and all I can say is daaayum. 😀

It's definitely not for everyone. If you make it to Deadhouse Gates and it's still lagging for you, you might not like it, at least according to most people.

Wait, Shazam with Sinbad didn't happen? I knew I was in the crowd that thought Mandela died in jail, but didn't know about the Sinbad one. Yeesh. You're not wrong about The Veiled Throne, it reads like that because Ken Liu is in that class of epic fantasy writers who wrote a book too big to publish in one volume. So the third book got split in two and The Veiled Throne's just the first half. Speaking Bones is where all the payoff happens because it's literally the climactic half of the book, ha.

SO glad to hear things really pick up in Speaking Bones. Not sure what I'm going to do once I'm finished the series because I love the world Ken Liu crafted.
