+SsnakeBite Probably because girls like me. I was a tomboy and hated girly stuff. I cut the head off any Barbies I was given for Christmas until my mom stop buying them.
+SsnakeBite That's what I was wondering. Like she couldn't be girly and also not into dolls? What if she liked crafts or stuffed animals or something. It is an option.
+SsnakeBite I guess the idea of the stereotype is that tomboyish girls reject girly things...which has some truth IRL (and I'd argue that's because of society complicated relationship with "girl things") media also has a complicated relationship with tomboys...at the younger end the girl who acts tough and rejects girl things is seen as cute/likable/precocious...if she's slightly older its an indication of being "down to earth" and not some air headed "popular girl" ,its also a sign she's the love interest our main boy character SHOULD be going for but alas he just sees her as a freind UNTILL SHE GETS A MAKE-OVER! beecause if you're a tomboyish girl in a movie you have to make sure once you reach a certain age you ditch the tom-boyishness and try and fem it up for that boy you apparently like, because lord help you people are gonna think youre a lesbian if you don't drop that shit after 13 like I said...complicated

I remember this film. It was pretty dumb. That being said, the casting department did good work. Tyra Banks as a living Barbie Doll, Lindsay Lohan as an emotionally disturbed and sociopathic child with access to the Necronomicon Ex Mortis. Perfect casting.
If I was a little child I absolutely would have preferred "sometimes things just happen" over "everything happens for a reason", and not only because it's true and I didn't like to be lied to.
as completely bizarre as this movie is, I have a soft spot for it. I practically raised my little sister during summer breaks, and she had a really hard time watching movies because she had some serious fear problems. for whatever reason, Life Size was one of the few movies that she wasn't scared to watch, so she and I rented it a bunch of times. thanks for reviewing this weird but endearing movie, brought back a lot of good memories.
I saw this movie as a kid and had the same reaction as Lupa. I thought it was really funny that the spell worked and no one seemed to acknowledge that. Even if they decided not to bring her back to life, shit, I would have checked that book for other spells!
I'll explain, she saves the line when becoming the doll because the dolls have a hive mind mentality and once the life size dolls turns back into a dolls her individual experiences and knowledge rush back into the collective doll mind, transferring the I formation instantaneously to every doll.
to be pedantic I think it does make sense that she would "know" she did those past jobs but not actually have any of the related knowledge/ability because it's purely superficial
I would love Life-Size 2 (or the Phelous movie) to be about Phelous accidentally bringing to life Steffi Love and Bat-hero, then after failing as a super villain in the real world, she steals the neconomicon. Then the second half becomes Evil Dead-ish. She creates an army of bootlegs and it ends with an epic battle featuring various internet personalities, including Linkara who throws in some Clone Saga references (can play off the fact she wants to replace the world's populations with "bootleg" humans), Cinema Snob, etc.
LaDracul Oh, god yes...I don't know if this is common, but my Ravan came without her right hand. Why couldn't I collect something with less parts? Like rocks.
So, Q5 tells J. Michael Straczynski that he can't put the Necronomicon into an episode of The Real Ghostbusters, but this early 2000's Disney movie (back when they were arguably far more conservative with taboo subjects) flat out has a kid trying to resurrect her dead mother with a book of the dead.
The nostalgia is hitting me hard! 😆 I loved this movie so much as a kid. This was my jam. It was dreamy. I was a fan of Lindsay because of the Parent Trap (another fave movie) and Tyra was so pretty!! lol Awesome review 💖
I'm happy my parents never lied to me when I asked stupid questions like "does everything happen for a reason?". The fact that my parents always said "I don't know" or "nobody really knows" when apropriate did make me bad at seeing through liars later in life though, so maybe parents bullshitting their kids is a good thing after all.
"they imply her mother's death was pointless" I mean personally I'd be more offended if someone insisted that the bad things that happened in my life/losing people I loved was actually okay because "it's all part of Someone's plan." To me, this implies that either human life or human suffering is cheap and unimportant enough that the omnipotent Being couldn't be arsed to find a way around it in order to carry out Their plans. It also implies that that's why it's actually good that this painful thing happened/why your feelings of sadness about it aren't okay or are only okay up to a point, and that you owe it to the universe to find some kind of positive thing in your pain. Idk I realize YMMV on this, but if someone told me that my getting multiple sclerosis was all part of God's plan, I'd want to punch them in the face. Sometimes bad things just happen, and sometimes pain is just pain.
Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but the b-plot about the woman in the office only looking more attractive and being more confident after she's told to wear makeup and smile more... it kinda sounds like something a sexist male boss would tell her.
Geez, I remember this movie. Only thing I remember is dad's love interest messes up little girl's resurrection spell (somehow I missed how messed up that is) and she ends up with Tyra Banks instead. Something wacky hijinks, something bonding, something tearful goodbye and learning about what's really important in life. This review was hilarious! It made me smieyes.
Oh man! Why'd you have to suggest the idea of a Mitch Buchannon doll coming to life!? Now I feel like we've been robbed of an incredible movie! That would have been great 😊 Hobie 2 doll sold separately. Death Pier not included.
I remember catching it back on the Disney Channel in 2002 and my sister and I remember singing that song from the movie before and still, she knows the words!
I think they could have maybe improved the whole movie and especially the ending if the Eve doll line was already kinda outdated and sexist, like if barbie never evolved past the 50s and all the doll's potential careers were homemaker or cheerleader or model. Then it makes sense that the doll line is failing, and you have lindsay lohan hating the doll because it's "girly" in a bad way. Then maybe the arc of the movie is Eve learning about and enjoying stuff that isn't traditionally feminine, and lindsay lohan in the process learning that being "girly" isn't inherently bad. Then at the end, the "new" eve dolls are ones with varied careers, more strong role model types- maybe even one with a football outfit like Lindsay's. Yes, I know I'm overthinking this disney channel original lol
House with a Clock in its Walls meets Mannequin meets Parent Trap, what's not to love? Ahem. No. Well tihs was back in 2015, so the House books, not the 2018 movie, and a little bit of Hellraiser and Weird Schience. Ha.
14:45 Oh... I had the album where that song is from. Technically it was my mum's but we really liked the group. I can only describe the feeling this gives me as 'nostalgic whiplash'.
I HAD the video when it was new and STILL watched it whenever it was on TV:) "Okay--DRESS ME!" "Real food!" "Yeah, that's what I love about this place. REAL food. Not like one of those hip, trendy places." "I had a car like this in Sunnyvale, but you had to push it." "I had a car like that once. AAA cancelled me." "What state is that in?" "The Sunshine State!" "Oh...Florida." "Oh! I broke a nail! You're not gonna throw me away, are you?!" "Do you know Apple or Windows?" "Both. I love apples!" Then at the faculty party she's singing her theme song and everyone's singing along:) "Shine bright, shine far, be a star! Where you live, where you are, BE A STAR!"
It's kind of sad seeing Lindsay Lohan in anything from Mean Girls and earlier. I forget just how much life she had in her eyes. 17:40 "Death is pointless, that's the point." Anubis; _Gargoyles_
I often find myself singing the “be a star “ song. I often get it stuck in my head accidentally and eventually I get to the chorus and then have to sing it! Lmao Thanks...
3:15 actually, Like with Angelica and Cynthia in the Rugrats, some times girls get attached to dolls because they remind them of their mothers, like with Angelica's mom always at work, she treated the doll like a confidant to all her problems, like a child might do with their mothers
It's been a while (one year ago, check the comments) since I was the first to acknowledge in this comment section that Tyra would be returning in Life-Size 2. And now, here are the first photos from the set. www.yahoo.com/entertainment/tyra-banks-slips-back-her-165709969.html Get ready to review the sequel, Alison. It's happening!!!!!!!
Come on everybody, smize smize smize! Fill the film up with ego! Ego! All she really wants is smize smize smize I can't believe Tyra Banks was a thing!
It just hit me: both this and I-Man are Disney. So they can make Tyra Banks into a Disney Princess or Marvel Superhero. Or both. MODELLAND! ONLY ON DISNEY +!
Hmm 🤔 I get the feeling if I had seen this movie growing up, I probably would have liked it😂 as of present day, 🤷♀️eh looks like a insane mess that can be enjoyed with friends 😜 Also I would gladly watch you guys cover the Hannah Montana movie considering Tyra did cameo at the time I had NO IDEA she was famous 😅 (plus that movie hasn’t really aged well, even though I do have some nostalgia for it still but having rewatched it, there’s gags in it that only is funny when you’re a child 🤷♀️)
