What did you guys get from the music video?

The only way you could guess the ending is from the very first shots, it’s just him and his parents while the mom is fine, and once she gets sick he makes an imaginary friend, a brother, to help cope with his sick mother and feeling neglected by his father who has started to disconnect and drink to numb the pain of the decay and eventual death of his wife

The imagery of the “brother” (who is a figment of the boys imagination to deal with his mother dying and his dad probably becoming an alcoholic out of depression from her passing) putting the gun in the “little brother’s” mouth is so deep in it hits me, then it shows at the end his brother just being a figure he created to cope, and the fact he was the one with the gun? Something about that makes me feel like he was pretending to have a brother putting a gun in his mouth the moment he had the gun to try to pretend like it was someone else showing him the true fear of his life ending too soon? I’m not sure if that made sense, I hope it did.

Honestly I think the song alone has a different message to when it's paired with the video. The song is legitimately about family, his brothers, including references to a real time where his brother pissed off the jocks and they showed up in the driveway. The video is a story about different characters (dead mum, alcoholic dad, no real siblings) and still tells a great story, but a different one to the one the song told originally.

you kinda randomize your reaction to twenty one pilots, they've got really structured albums, with themes and motifs. I think that you should make more structural reactions on the albums and my recommendation for you to start with Vessel (ode to sleep, car radio, guns for hands, Holding on to you and trees ), then go to the next Blurryface album with a completely different motive and so on. Your reactions are cool, but you just chose random tracks from the last album and you won’t be able to see all growth of the band in general

What you said at 4:25 is somewhat part of the lyrics to their song Kitchen Sink. Some lyrics (as his tattoos and band logo) have a meaning for him, but he will let you give it your own meaning cause that's how you relate to it. It doesn't have to have just one meaning. The 'brother' was a coping mechanism after his mother died and his father wasn't there emotionally. It shows how different people cope in different ways and that is how he copes. The brother is like his alter ego, someone there for him and to be with. Great reaction, please do more twenty one pilots reaction. I would recommend ode to sleep

I think most of what the video touched on was said already but I think its great how they put the skull mask motif in there. Calling back to "guns for hands" music video Tyler says to josh basically that as long as he has it on they cant see you and he can "take it off when [he's] ready". the tiny interaction between the "brothers" calls back to this when the "older brother" hands his the mask and looks like he's saying something to him. I think this little detail is so fucking cool to notice and the little moments that warm your heart throughout the video. I.E the brothers touching heads, the "older brother" pulling the younger in front of him while running. just beautiful-- mm *chefs kiss*

Twenty One Pilots are so fun to dissect their music because it all comes from Tyler's poetry. He is so lyrically inclined and makes their music so interesting.

Then story is that after losing his mom, his dad started drinking, so he didn't have anyone to take care of him. So he basically created this "big brother" idea, an alter ego who was stronger than he was so he could survive after losing his mom. At the end, he's getting his ass kicked and he realizes he can't rely on this alter ego to save him, he has to stand up for himself. That's when he gets the bat, and that's why his "brother" disappears after.

Fun fact, there is an actual illness that is very similar to the main character. D.i.d (dissociative identity disorder) aka multiple identity disorder, it's usually caused from trauma at a young age (ex: losing a parent) and it basically develops a entirely different personality that your brain switches between.

Who else share the same blood as you? Yourself. I like to thing that this song is about trusting in yourself. You'll stay with yourself all your life, you'll share so many experiences and will have to learn to trust yourself. This is one of the very few times that I expose my own opinion about something (in this case this song) because sometimes I really do not trust myself but I want to learn to. This song is very important to me and is great everyone can have their own point of view about it. This make us special, the fact we can have different opinions about something. I think it’s multiple personality disorders with people who have multiple personality disorder there is the one who is the protector so I think once his mom died that personality set in so whenever he was kind of feeling insecure or scared that personality would take over and protect him and in a way protecting himself.

From what I think, his mom passed and his dad became so isolated and possible an alcoholic so he created this brother figure to take care of him. He put him in bed, he helped him with bullies, he made him a bit more extroverted. It was the two sides of him that he kinds split in two to have some kind of care when he was left alone.
