I still have a Tag Heuer Formula 35mm watch from 1995. I change the battery every few years. It's a fun little watch. I never expected this to be a re-issue. Why? It wasn't a great watch to begin with.

My wife and I both had multiples of the originals - both the metal and plastic case versions - for scuba diving. They were OK, but disappointing that no replacement plastic bezels were available as these were quite soft and their markings quickly wore off.

I think what a lot of people don’t realize is that these watches weren’t made for enthusiasts, but rather for people that buy hype/streetwear fashion. Kith is basically a slightly less obnoxious version of Supreme and they’re mostly popular in big cities in the US and Europe. Everything they sell is limited, expensive, and they frequently collaborate with heritage brands to do funky versions of things, usually in monochrome or loud colors. I think this is a move by TAG to get younger people who don’t even know they exist, to buy the watches because it says “KITH” on the dial, and hopefully create more brand awareness for TAG with a younger demographic. Whether it works or not is to be seen… I personally am not a fan of the collaboration, especially for the price, but I could understand why a person would buy one

How is the plastic one more than the actual watch? I thought the whole point of these plastic tag-alongs was that they were substantially cheaper. The Moonswatch has been called overpriced by many and it costs a quarter of what this costs and it represents a watch that costs massively more. I don't understand this pricing.

They're steel with sapphire crystals and silicone, not plastic straps. In no way comparable to a Moonswatch, which is basically an expensive Swatch. These are faithful recreations using more premium materials.

Bought an Tag and had a second one later. Both quit and dealer said it wasn’t repairable. After a little research I found that i could buy the movements for less than $30 each. I got them both going and gave them away. Wearing my Eribus today and the lume and legibility are second to none.

$20 watch! TH usually use the cheapest Ronda movements, but never actually state any of the specs in their website. If you really want to know, you are reduced to taking the caseback off or watching someone else do it on youtube. I have one of the aforementioned F1 steel cased models in blue. Didn't pay the utterly disgraceful asking price of around $1500 USD, thankfully. Decent watch but unfortunately the seconds hand hits very few markers and it comes with a 50cent pressed clasp. The WORST quartz watch WRT timekeeping that I own, around +12 seconds per month (within spec, but come on....I have Casios worth 10% of the TH running at less than +/- 5 per month. Some of the TH Quartz chronos are retailing at well over $2000 USD, but have a movement worth

I think these are super overpriced, but it is worth noting that they are PVD coated steel, not plastic EDIT: ok, some of them are listed as “arnite” cases which is in fact plastic, some of the black ones are PVD coated steel, some are arnite, and all of the colorful case ones are arnite

Incorrect. Cases are steel on all models. It's the bezel that is arnite.

@@FieldDE all 3 listed on the Tag website are listed as having Steel cases, 2 of which it spells out as PVD coated. Of the 8 on the Kith website 3 are listed as steel cases and the other 5 it specifically says are arnite cases

@@ajgross67 Apologies. Either the Kith or TAG website is wrong. Kith have all colours (inc. the TAG exclusives) except the bracelet models as 'arnite'. However TAG Heuer list all 3 of theirs as steel. Not sure why all 4 models with the black case wouldn't be PVD steel, as it's a common colour of coating.

@@FieldDE Wow, Tag Heuer/Kith marketing really screwed up. Don't even know whether the cases are Steel or plastic? I would guess they are all Steel PVD since Kith's website states "Formula 1 engraved". It does appear engraved on the Tag website. The original were raised (embossed) on the plastic cases. Fun Fact...the original had a steel inner case but plastic outer case. The crystal was pressed into a steel frame which also had a steel screw down case back.

Was definetly not planning on getting one because of the price point but as a life long F1 fan I always look what Tag Heur is doing (And I have a full steel/saphire Tag that was my daily for like 15 years). I still have my original F1 which has the Full Lume dial. The Bezel and Crystal are both looking their age though. The original Rubber Strap has perished but I spent the £60 extra and bought the Jubilee strap to match. It also seems very small too, compared to my other Watches.

I was a big collector of the Tag F1 series watches. I've owned most all of them (1st, 2nd, 3rd generations, stopped after 3rd gen). I always wanted a 1st gen plastic or steel watch but in larger size like 39mm. The 1st gen F1 chronos were a good size.

I have a nice 1000, a Kirium chronometer and a couple of others, but my most treasured Heuer F1, red with white dial, was given to me in Adelaide by the Sponsorship Coordinator at McLaren when he told me he was moving to Tyrrell for the next season. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Honestly when I saw the ads, I thought they were doing a similarly priced competitor to the moonswatch. Ugh. Nope. And ... ummm don't Casio have a TON of wild colored G-Shocks that are not only cheaper than the TAG (by a mile) but also really great quality? I like all your suggestions way better but I would probably get some of those new glow in the dark G-Shocks.

The original F1 was my first serious watch in 1989, it cost £99 from Goldsmiths, they are still a robust super cool watch but as 34mm are just too small for me now. This updated version is just daft, good job there are people like you Jody calling these idiots out.

Like all opinions I respect yours but I don't share it, I think you missed the whole point, 1500€ to go back to your youth and make you smile is priceless. I love them all. They kept the same materials, colors and dimensions, these watches touched me, I have the original one and having the new re-edition was a must. Is not cheap, I know, but nowadays all watches are overpriced. But I am agree with you on the branding, Kith is not popular in Europe and I would rather prefer to have the original logo to the Kith one. But nevertheless I had the feeling I couldn't miss the opportunity. Call it nostalgia, call it stupidity but when I got the chance to buy one I did it and I don't regret it. I am very happy with it :) Thanks for your video, always good stuff :)

I agree, this is TagHeuer taking the 'kith'. I bought my stainless steel on bracelet quartz Aquaracer about 18 months ago for $1900 (AU) on sale from an AD. You truly would have to have money to burn to spend $2200AU on this.

If they sold these for $150 instead of $1500 I'd be on board, but holy shit. Personally I'm a fan of 90's Tag Heuer, and have a soft spot for the old F1's with the plastic bezels. But damn this is obscene.

I have 2 of the originals, one of which was my first luxury watch, it was secondhand when I bought it, it still looks pristine and works fine and I’ve owned it for 20 years. If they had brought these out without the kith crap and upgraded them to sapphire for £500 give or take, I probably would have bought about 2 or 3. These I wouldn’t touch with a barge pole.

Absolutely insane!! Thanks Jody for highlighting some different options to this horrendous monstrosity. The Nomos club would be my pick of the bunch from this selection, but seriously for under $500 USD, there are soooooo many better options. Marc at Long Island Watch has some great colour ways in terms of watches, not to mention other microbrand offerings.

These were my thoughts as well. If or wasn't a collab or limited and was under $1000 I would get one. The colours could've been more F1 related than Kith as well, JPS Lotus or colourway would've been awesome.

You can buy an entire colourful collection of Bluetooth and solar G-Shocks for the price of one of these Kith things. Plastic, quartz, colourful but also incredibly solid, sporty and they have 40 years of brand cache and quality behind them. I'm obviously very biased because Casio are probably my favourite brand.
