It seems like everywhere we look these days, there’s chronic disease. Our bodies are extremely intelligent, so why are they acting so dumb and having so many dysfunctions? Using the lens of Functional Medicine, we can see that a disease is so much more than its location. With inflammation smoldering throughout the body in many people, we need to zero in on the immune system, how it’s functioning, and what factors are negatively impacting it. We’re in an exciting time for research in this area, as we continue to learn how to fix the problems behind an aging immune system.
There’s no better person to talk to about this topic than the one and only Dr. Jeff Bland. Dr. Bland is the founder of Big Bold Health, a company on a mission to transform the way people think about one of nature’s greatest innovations-the immune system. Through Big Bold Health, Jeff is advocating for the power of immuno-rejuvenation to enhance immunity at a global level, often through the rediscovery of ancient food crops and superfoods. To get there, Jeff is building a network of small farms and suppliers throughout the US that take a clear stance on regenerative agriculture, environmental stewardship, and planetary health. Jeff’s career in health spans more than 40 years. A nutritional biochemist by training, he began in academia as a university professor. Jeff then spent three decades in the natural products industry, working alongside other pioneers.

I can’t help but wonder if you have entertained the idea of harvesting organic raw honey from the bees who eat the Himalayan buckwheat? That would be an amazing product! Lynx Acres - A fascinating video. The major point I got from this is that having multiple species, having a large diversity in your crops, whether its perennial pasture or cover crops, is majorly important. Having enough diversity is a major factor in the health of your soil, plants, livestock, and ultimately you and your bank account. The reason the talk is called “tipping points” is because you have to have enough diversity before it makes a difference. Picture a teeter-totter: you’re adding weights to one end, but it isn’t doing anything. If you keep adding weights, there will be a point where you add just one more weight and it will tip the whole teeter-totter over to the other side. That’s your tipping point (and even more last that is better). But if you gave up and quit before then, you just think “diversity doesn’t actually do anything”. And you’re both right and wrong - it doesn’t do anything, if you don’t have enough. You need more, you need a lot, you need enough, and preferably more than enough. What’s enough? You may have to find that out yourself where you are. But whatever is enough, once you get that, go past it, have more. The benefits will be that much better. A few specific points: starting at 13:20 she talks about the Burleigh County Soil Conservation District cover crop trial in 2006. It was done in North Dakota, and that year they had 1 inch of rain between seeding in late May and harvest in late July. They used 8 different cover crops, and 1 acre plots with monocultures of the 8 cover crops, plus plots of 3, 4, 5 & 8 way mixes. That year due to the drought, they had most of the plots fail, including all the monoculture plots, but also the 3, 4, & 5 way mixes failed too. It was only when they got up to 7 or 8 way mix, that they amazingly thrived. So if you’re facing droughts, you need to keep this in mind - diversity means healthier soil biology, which can keep your plants alive and watered when they would otherwise die. At 17:45 she talks about the Jena experiment done in Germany. They did plots with 1,2,4,8 and 16 plant species mixes, also with 0, 100lbs, or 200 lbs nitrogen/acre/year. And they found that when you do an 8 or 16 way mix with 0 nitrogen you have more biomass than on the 1 or 2 way mix with 200 lbs nitrogen/acre/year applied. At 20:30 some really good information about feed/pasture. It’s the story of a New Zealand farmer who changed his feed for his dairy cows from annuals with lots of fertilizer to a multi-mix of perennials with none, and the huge difference it made. Cheers! Watch the video!!

I don't know. Tons, and tons of folks that are very elderly that lived their whole lives in the northeastern mountains. They had 0 access to himalayan buckwheat, or any seafood of any kind. Yet, obviously they found the proper combination of nutrients. I do believe the nutrient value of food is a key element. But I cannot believe "certain foods" are "super foods". I think it is just the ample presents of micronutrients like elemental minerals that are not found in our treated and bottled water, and not eating crap with any added sugars or chemicals for preservation that will allow the body to age properly and gracefully. I think these folks are on the right path, just not so sure they can rely on a "superfood".

When I saw how long this video is I just went straight to the comments to see what the superfool is. We don't need to watch over an hour to find out what the superfool is. Admittedly, the information is good and necessary if you don't understand the science behind why people are getting sick. However, if you research a lot then sometimes you just need to go straight to the info as detailed in the title! But a huge amount of people can still benefit from these videos and you need to watch many until you see a common pattern in information and then you can start to understand and go beyond.

11kwright, I've got the video running, and it's all good knowledge : I've been listening to many talks / interviews by Dr. Hyman, I know he seems to interrupt , but he's generally helping to explain to us, what the guest is saying. I too admit to coming to read the comments , ( multi-tasking ! Listening to the interview while reading, and writing at the same time !😊🇬🇧😊) I'm juggling these 3 activities, to find out what super food they are talking about ...🤔.. The title is a mild "Clickbait", but it got us here, didn't it ! 😊. At least we know that the information they give WILL be very beneficial . Persevere, folks ! I'll try to find the superfood's name and come back ! But we DO need a big range of good things, and also know which foods are causing harm... My favourite advisers are Dr. Hyman , Dr. John Bergman, Dr.Alan Mandell and Dr. Steven Grundy. They have all made extremely helpful and vitally informative videos for us. It's a huge plus-point for the Internet.😊. We can now hear summaries of enormous amounts of research, from many years of scientific work. 😊🇺🇲💕🇺🇲😊🇬🇧. 😊😊🇬🇧💕🇺🇲😊😊

Interesting information, but there's a reason for waiting more than halfway through the video to discover what the 'superfood' is... this is a clear sales pitch by Hyman and Bland to spruik Big Bold Health's Buckwheat and fish oil. Kudos to Bland for his study and expertise, fail overall.

What if you have an autoimmune condition which indicates an overactive immune system and you are an immunosuppressants for that autoimmune condition which dampens your immune system. And you have a c4 deficiency in your classical pathway which means you are naturally immuno compromised. I don't know which system I fit into overactive because of the autoimmune disorder or underactive because of the c4 deficiency and the immunosuppressing drugs. Should I be aiming to strengthen my immune system now that I'm on immunosuppressants and I have c4 deficiency or damp in my immune system despite those things because I have an autoimmune condition? This is very fascinating and I definitely want to employ some of the things I've learned but I don't know which way to go with it

I am on the fence here. Respect both doctors, but as they are selling a product in which they have a financial stake, it is a bit suspect guys. Also, in looking at the recipes, only a few are really keto. I looked at other web sites trying to find recipes and they were all not Keto. If you can have more keto recipes, I might try it and please lower the free shipping option. $80 is quite a bit to spend for free shipping. The price for the actual product at $11/pound is way out of reach for most of the people who watch your pod casts. Good luck with your new financial venture. Thanks.

I love Dr. Hyman but I get a little annoyed when they appear to promote a particular product. Is someone getting a kickback, or involved with that company. It’s one thing to suggest a food or supplement but when a particular brand is shown, I get suspicious. I don’t want Marks reputation to get questioned because a guest want to flaunt some product for profit. This guest has several books, as does Dr. Hyman which is also approaching a boundary.
