This video was made for OOTP 22, and so was my projection tool. OOTP overhauled the engine, and it's no longer useful for 23.

I go to my team's player list, the minor league section, and then sort by guys who have low work ethic and intelligence.

What does putting more money into player development do ?

That's pretty much it. The disparity would need to be so large that it's unrealistic to ever see it actually happen. And while there is a world I might consider regular favour tools, there is no world I'd consider even neutral. I'll explain more in depth on my video later today

I think, for small market teams, Ohtani isn't worth it. It's better to invest your capital in younger, cheaper players.

I think there are elements of what you said I agree with, but only elements. Yes, it makes sense to fill a hole on your team with a cheap free agent signing or trade acquisition, but I'm not going to use any remotely valuable pieces to fill those gaps. You never need to. Doing so might get you a higher quality player this year, but it's probably not worth the additional price. Now before I dive into the next point I just want to say that you have violated point number 4 by referring to a player's overall lol. I know you probably just meant generally better players, but I will explain in my next bit why I disagree with that as well. So first of all, if you're trading a valuable, controllable piece, you need to be getting a different valuable, controllable piece in return. This plays into my signature strategy, "talent cycling". Essentially, talent cycling means that a very high portion of players leaving your organization bring back players that will either contribute to your team or become valuable trade chips at some point. Getting a rental player is extremely inefficient in this strategy. Ultimately, you might be strengthening your chances of winning now, but you're weakening your organization. The way I do so well is by building an organization constantly, not by building a team each year and then adding stuff behind it. Now as for your point of trading away everything but the top guy on your depth charts, this is just... so wrong. First of all, if that top prospect crumbles, which does happen, you'll feel real bad about trading the next best guy away. Secondly, ratings aren't static. Those players could TCR enough to completely change your rankings. You shouldn't be actively looking to get rid of a player until they're getting to the period where you're very unlikely to see further development (around 25 for batters and 26 for pitchers). Secondly, you might be able to move guys around defensively. And finally, and this is going to sound insane, you want to build an organization that is just convoluted and messy with top prospects. You want to own 8/10 of the best guys at every position. Even if this doesn't necessarily make your team stronger, what it does mean is that when truly special players come along, you have the capital to trade for them. And that you always have enough talent to compete while constantly refreshing your farm.

@@sgtmushroom By paragraph, but before I start, while I do go after rentals (aka 1/2-1 year players), No, I don't trade Serious/Good prospects for that. I just want to reiterate that my point is managing the minors is more than just getting and nurturing assets, its also about having a plan for how they'll get used. Nice Prospects that are getting blocked by better major league players on your team or other, better prospects need to be addressed. You have to ask questions like, "Can I move their position? Should I trade my current starter to open a spot for him? How much does this player improve my organization outside of depth? Because if he's ultimately just depth... Also, I watched a few of your other videos, I'm glad I'm not the only one screaming about Catcher Ability. I truly think this is a situation where the nuances aren't coming over well, as we see in the end, you actually start arguing in favor of the point I was trying to make, so I don't think we're actually far apart on our opinions, just a shame RU-vid comments make it hard to articulate in an effective way. 1 - I agree, players that have a real future for you should be protected, unless the deal is too good to be true, then your key prospects should for all intents and purposes just live on your untouchable list. 2 - Yes I was being general to get my point across, I know better then to trust the Overall/Potential ratings at face value. 3 - "Ultimately, you might be strengthening your chances of winning now, but you're weakening your organization" My point isn't coming across, how in my (bare with my use of pot rating) organization weaker by getting rid of a player that isn't going to play for me? I (being playful and not defensive) am kinda hurt you didn't think I already do stuff like that.

@@theapologist6717 The only thing I really want to comment on here is the third point. Think of your organization as a pool of talent. That includes guys you want on your MLB team at some point, but also guys who are just there. I would call your excess your "trading power". Giving up a player who is unlikely to make your MLB team for a rental is still weakening your "trading power" even if it doesn't hurt what your hypothetical MLB team would look like. Now sometimes rentals are cheap enough that it's worth it to slightly weaken that "trading power" portion of your organization, but taking a significant chunk out, even if it's someone who doesn't have a place in your organization's future, damages your ability to get meaningful players later. So I'm obviously not suggesting you hold onto these guys forever. But what you should do is be trading them for different, younger prospects when the time comes, even if they don't have a spot in your future, because it sustains your trading power. This process works again and again for me, and I find that after about 10 years of play I can get any player on any team at any time. That's the goal. You want to literally have so much in your system that you can do anything. No offense intended, I definitely think that was just me misunderstanding you.

I actually later talk about a lot of what your mentioning now and how much we actually agree, just with different nuances. Keep up the great work! You're my go to guy on the platform when I'm confused about something. (This was on your other video, but I mock recreated your Highly Favor Tools experiments, and I agree, Tools is just better. So thanks for pointing that out!)

That helps with morale, but the winning records themselves don't matter.

ive found the more my teams are winning, the faster my dudes progress. that could just be correlation rather than causation though. makes sense that the more better young players I have, the more wins we'd get

All of your players get slight boosts to overall ratings development. This means your MLB players and top prospects are more likely to improve, but more importantly the farm as a whole. This means you do a better job producing depth, trade chips, and building nobodies into usable prospects, etc. Overall I think the value of the extra $30 million (the difference between minimum and maximum development budget) is well worth it.
