I've been playing OOTP for 14 years and I have never once played PT. I knew this was going to happen. The sad thing is, I'm STILL blown away with the lack of improvements in the non PT side of the game.
It’s simple! Ootp is a game and not real life, therefore the ratings of a player drives his stats. Never vice versa! So simple yet so many people fail to grasp it! Great video 🎉🎉
A) When Markus sold his game and IP to a Korean phone company B) They care more about the 3D graphics engine. These two things are what are causing ootp get worse every year.
Can anyone here point me in the right direction to understand how RP fatigue affects a starting pitcher? In my fictional league I sometimes see starters brought in as relief pitchers (I have very rarely done this myself only in emergency extra inning situations). When I look at my opponent's substitution screen I added SP fatigue and RP fatigue and their starters all have low RP fatigue %,, but good SP fatigue. I just can't seem to find any explanation on how these two stats interact. Surely a starting pitcher with low RP fatigue has some affect on his ability to start, right?
Honestly I think a lot of these problems go back much further than OOTP 24. I bought every version of OOTP from 6-15 because they actually made large changes but ever since about OOTP 13 I think the changes the improvements they have made have been quite underwhelming. For example, the MLB sim engine has gotten incrementally better, but prospect development and minor league play have been extremely unrealistic for over a decade now.
re: catchers starting ~120 games - any thoughts on putting two catchers in the starting lineup, but alternating which one is at catcher and which one is at DH? Is this a viable way to get maximum bang for buck from your catchers, or does catcher generally not have enough league-wide depth of offensive talent to justify spending the DH slot on a catcher?
Generally, I think the better investment would be platooning your catchers (vR and vL) and not target elite options usually since you'd then optimize each catcher's production at a lower cost (without consuming the usual platoon roster slot). Definitely wouldn't endorse the DH strategy.
Thanks for this. Any tips on setting scouting priorities? My scout always comes back with half a star rated international amateur players with half a star potential even when I have my priority set with a minimum quality. Im only 1 season down, but ive not found anyone worth signing yet.
I do agree with most points made in this video and for the most part I agree with not using stats as some are flawed based on the game engine. One key point not brought up is the delayed scouting reports. I've seen numerous examples of hitters drafted in rounds 6 or later with 35/50 power current/potential from my scout with a very high accuracy report within the previous few months to go on to hit a crazy amount of HR's in rookie or low A. Than I request another report and it still doesn't come back as improved from 35/50 rating but all of a sudden in the offseason it jumps like crazy to 55/60. It's clear from those examples that the on field performance predates the scouting report changes so for those examples statistics are invaluable. In your examples in the video you were talking from a 100% scouting accuracy examples but in franchise mode almost everyone I assume doesn't play with 100% accuracy on so my above example becomes very frequent.
Ive ignored PT since its inception but I still keep coming back hoping to happen upon a believable 3D play experience to match the statistical brilliance in OOTP. Funny how over the years theyve boasted improvements in each release but yet here we are at 24 and this is what we have haha. I dont ask for much, after all i loved Earl Weaver baseball on the Amiga. I know it’s been forever, but do you have any insight on how catcher/SS defense impacts in 24 compared to 23? Is it similar or closer to the old 22 and prior model
If someone complains about the gacha format on discord, the whales come out in force and say that the game would not exist without them. These old guys pay 5k easily without complaining. If only they would take some type of stand, things would improve.
Love your vids... do you have any tips on how to improve the records of lower milb teams? Everything below AA seems to always have a .300 record for me. Does milb team record negatively impact development?
We should not evaluate minor league players like the way we do in MLB. For example you can check ERA for MLB pitchers but K/BB is more important than ERA when evaluating a AA pitching prospect. I understand what you mean but 'NEVER' seems a little bit relentless.
In a fictional league where current ratings are hidden and you only see potential, would you still only want a highly favors tools scouting director? Do stats have meaning in that format?
One issue I am dealing with with personel is when they get poached by another team, won't accept an offer to stay and then when I look at the free agent personel I'll find the perfect guy but they refuse to take a position on my staff.... After multiple runs in the playoffs. 🤷 Then all it wants to give me are crap options for their roles. Frustrating.
Is there any way to fix some of the broken ai financial logic in 24. The biggest problems are extensions are way too easy and cheap to sign for young players, and after a few years every team will have negative budget.
You can tweak some of the money sinks so the AI doesn't get into massive trouble, but that's more of an issue shifter than fixer. There is no solution because the core problem is with the AI, not the specific setup OOTP has with it
OOTP has a similar problem to games like Football Manager in that they need to look like more than bug-fixes-and-a-database-update to justify charging full price every year. This tends to result in features that we didn't need and a flashy coating. Agree about PT as well. Interesting video, thanks.
That’s true but you can’t really skip a year either, because it loses momentum and the player base drifts away. And if all you do is a $10 roster update and large patch, year over year revenue plummets which just isn’t acceptable for ANY business. So you’re stuck doing this, there’s no other option.
Thanks for the video. If it is best to use Highly Favour Tools scouts for most scouting, then will a Highly Favour Ability scout be better for scouting your opponents and picking your team for you?
I've been playing OOTP for over 20 years (OOTP 2), back when you had to order off a website and then receive a CD that looked liked it was burned in a basement, and then delivered to you via snail mail. When PT came onto the scene is when OOTP started down this wrong direction and it seemed pretty obvious at the time to us OOTP old timers. I actually loved the PT Beta as there was no way to purchase packs with real money, I was addicted to the mode actually. However, once PT came out of beta it was obvious it was a pay to win mode. Even worse was if you even hinted of this in the OOTP Discord or Forums you were put in timeout (as was I).
Have to call bs on the community being toxic. That's just not true. I have been a member of the ootp forum since 2003 and I've never seen a board that is more helpful. Are there some bad apples? Sure both old and new. But I've never found it toxic.
For starters, I don't think everyone in the community is toxic by any means. There are plenty of good people, and probably around 3/4 or more, even in the worst places, are properly decent. I've met plenty of great, smart people through the OOTP community. However, when I say "the community is toxic", I'm talking about the culture at the top specifically in this context. There are absolutely other cases where I think there are issues, but the focus here, in this video, is on how the company runs the community. Punishing constructive criticism is just insane, especially from some of your biggest community members, and I've seen it firsthand several times. Pretty much ceding the reins of moderation to the whales and doing their bidding is also a very serious issue. It's much worse on the main discord and twitch than I've ever seen on reddit or the forums, so you may never have encountered what I'm talking about, but regardless of whether you're making this comment because you haven't encountered it or are misunderstanding what I'm talking about, it IS there.
com2us is ruining the game. It’s an investment company trying to extract maximum short term profit with absolutely no concern about the sustainability of the game. They can take that quick money and invest it in a different venture and make more money than they would if the franchise lasted another 20 years.
This just happened to me in year three of my dynasty. I lost Juan Soto and it auto saved since it happened over December to January 1st so I just had to delete my franchise. Hours and hours of "work" gone :(
@@swirvinbirds1971I'm not sure of this, but I think what happens is this. We both might have had our roster full so it placed them in the DFA spot automatically. You can fix it/avoid it if you move them immediately after you sign them. But if you sim for one day too long, just one day, then it's over. They will be claimed and it's too late.
if you are correct about your theories...While Shortstop Is very importan. it goes against the physics of the actual sport to say they are most important. Number 1. Catcher is the most important position on the baseball field. it has the most "reach" by far because catcher defense effects the Entire Pitching staff. Done. That said, you want a C who can both handle the staff and throw. Cutting down would be base stealers, turning scoring position baserunners into outs will amount to full swing, game changing plays. If you have a C who can't throw out runners, then every decent base runner is already in scoring position. You may have heard the famous saying "oh those bases on balls" you have a bad catcher, you risk the staff giving up walks. base runners add up. That all said... Awesome show. Good stuff. It's good to see someone put thought and effort.
I have 23 and 24, and personally prefer 23. It just looks more polished and the UI is better looking. I also had some pretty nasty crashes on 24. I am playing out all games and to lose a progress worth 2 hours play was not fun.
Fisrt off, a criticism. The first leg of a double play, must be taken in measuring ability to turn a double play. That is the pick and throw is equal to the receive and throw. The sum of both can be a one number aggregate. Lastly Kudos. You havw a well thought out and presented single person opinion show.
I just ftp Perfect Team. I am never going to get anywhere other than Bronze or Silver league but I didn't get the game for that, just the franchise simulation baseball.
I am unfortunately a player of MLB 9innings and have been for years. So trust me when I say this, OOTP is starting to become a carbon copy in regards to how much money they are squeezing out of the player base. I'm lucky enough to have gotten out of the spending cycle before it became a real problem for me, but ive got friends in the community who spend half of their paychecks on in game packages. Com2us is an awful, awful company.
None of these tendencies are new. Com2Us's acquisition did not change how OOTP was run. Com2Us just gave them the institutional knowledge necessary to extract money from all of us better. The video mentions how high priced the point packages can get, but it is also worth pointing out just how small amount players get from it in terms of market purchasing power. 175k pp, the amount given in exchange for $100, is nowhere near enough to secure even a single top end card. That is some massive money for very meager returns. And it is worth noting that this is not new, as these price points have held more or less steady since PT launched in OOTP 19.
We needed a video to explain this? OOTP has been alienating its fanbase for years now. I didn't even buy a copy this year; someone gifted me a copy, I played it a few times, and left it alone.
