I was born Phoenix in 1952 and moved away in 1962. I still live in Arizona, just not in the godforsaken hellhole that Phoenix has become. People who like living in Phoenix need to have their screws tightened. I only go to Phoenix when I absolutely HAVE to and then can't wait to get the hell out of there. The first thing I notice when I go there is that the place smells like a landfill. The water that comes out of the tap in Phoenix tastes like what warm piss must be like.

I didn't know anyone actually drank from the tap in Phoenix. My dad and brother only used tap water for bathing and brushing teeth, and for the pets to drink. They always had huge jugs of bottled water delivered for human drinking. The tap water always tasted so metallic. Tooth paste covered it up, but otherwise it tasted awful. And I'm always a bit cautious of the critters.

@@movingtophoenixarizonaeric Yes, you're right of course; it was ok to drink, but just didn't taste very good. We got huge jugs of Arrowhead water delivered regularly, and put them in a water cooler dispenser in the laundry room. I loved Phoenix. I usually visited my dad and brother in October, when the weather turns cold and blustery here in Munich, where I live, so I guess you might call me a snowbird. 😁 Now my dad has passed on and my brother has moved, so I haven't been back in years.

I can understand why people put in rock yards. They're saving water. But we already live in a heat island and why would someone want to create a mini heat island around their house? What they're saving on their water bill is going to be offset by an increase in their electric bill. I have heat resistant and drought tolerant bermudagrass in my yard and only water it 3x a week, 8 minutes each time. It's lush and green and keeps my yard cooler.

I grew up here in Phoenix but these last 3 years have me to the point where I cannot wait to move. It's pretty much Cali level expensive with scorching summers, no beach, no real cool things, traffic gets worse every year, if you go up north to escape the heat, you will get stuck in a 4hr traffic jam half the time. If you want to live near the beach in California you are looking at a million dollars for a house, car registration includes a tax on the value of your car, sales tax in LA County is over 10%. Bottom line, Arizona might feel expensive but you can double your costs in Arizona if you move back to the beach in California. For example, just to register my six year old Honda Civic is over $400. A one bedroom apartment out in the desert (not the nice desert around Palm Springs) will set you back $2,000 a month (not including the water, trash and pet fees they tack on everywhere now).

I don't understand people who move to Phoenix and then make RU-vid videos criticizing the place. I just don't get it. One thing about this video I'd like to clear up is the hot water coming out of your faucet in the summertime. It's not because the water heats up in the Central Arizona Project canal as it flows 336 miles on its way to Phoenix. It's because when they build homes here they put the water pipes 6 - 12 inches underground and the water heats up in the pipes because the ground gets hot in the summer. Up north they need to put the pipes below the frost line and that's between 5 - 6 feet underground. For me I like it because I get to turn my water heater off in the summer. But if you like warm/hot weather, sunny skies year-round, palm trees and citrus trees then this is the place for you. We're open and accepting new residents.

i have lived here since 1980 when I was 6. Most of that time in South Scottsdale, but I work all over the valley. I would argue that the horrible driving is a result of no traffic law enforcement. You can drive 20mph over the speed limit from on side of the valley to the other on surface streets or freeways and you are not likely to even see a cop. I can count on one hand the times I've seen cars pulled over on the freeway per year and I drive them 2 or 3 hours a day often. Same is true of city police. I rarely see one in my usual 30 min per day on city streets. People know that they have very little chance of getting caught so it's pretty much the wild west. It's a huge difference from when I visit the east coast. You'll pass 2 or 3 cars pulled over on a 50 mile trip.
