Nice Torino's! One of my high-school classmates (in the mid 80's) drove a hot-rodded early 70's Ranchero in yellow and black. It was really a head-turner!

'70-'71, Ford produced 7 429 station wagons. 6 were Country Squire trim and A/T. One was a plain jane 429 SCJ "drag-pack" 4 speed car, and I've owned it since 1981 when it had 34k miles. Marti Reports stated that no such car ever existed. Ford Museum staff proved otherwise and helped me to document the car which I still own today. BTW, I also own a '70 Ranchero GT that has a 429 CJ engine and A/T. I bought it in 1982 and fully restored it correctly over near 9 years.

What a treat to see "my old car"! I inherited my grandfather's 1970 4-door Torino, 351c, dark green -- just like yours. No power brakes, no power steering, but man that thing had pick-up! As a 16-year-old new driver, I was the envy of my friends ... 'cause nobody had a car that could do zero-to-sixty in (what seemed like) a millisecond. I had many gearheads try to buy that car from me, but I held out -- only to be outsmarted by my mother, while I was away at college: "We sold your car!" "Say what???!?" "Yeah. Got 350 bucks for it!" Dang. That thing would be worth $30K or so, by now. Man, I miss that car!!! Hey! You have two, and you can only drive one at a time, so.... ;-)
@GoodTimekeeper

My older brother showed me all the amazing stuff he could do with a 351C-2V 1970 4-door sedan and, when I was old enough to drive, there was no longer anything left to prove. So I treated it very gently. Nevertheless, it was mostly a whole bunch of rust held together by nice-looking paint, which is why they got rid of it while I was 20 years old and living in Bolivia. They managed to remove the engine and stick it in a Mustang for a while. But I’m glad I was thousands of miles away and never saw the car get towed away to the scrap yard. Sigh. Of course, I now see that if I ever part ways with these old cars today I won’t get another shot at having one. So...

My Dad often reflected on the fact that his Torino was the only car he ever bought brand new and drove it until it went to the junk yard. Later, I did that to a 1992 Corolla which lasted 19.5 years and went 400,000 miles.

Hello Greg,nice car that brings back memories.in 1981 I purchased a used and Excellent cond 1971 Torino fastback with a 351 clevlend engine.it had posi-traction,jacked up rear end with adjustable air shocks.Pioneer slide mount cassette deck/co-axial speakers.a new brown pearl paint job and the interior all re-stitched in brown pleather.all these upgrades cost me a fortune but I had her all set up the way I wanted.long story short my sister in laws car broke down one day and she asked if she could take my fastback to day care and on to her job.on her way home she was T-boned by a Galaxy 500 station wagon when coming off the interstate.that car saved her and her daughters life but my dream car was gone,frame was bent to hell.Acre scrap metal gave me 50 bucks,boy do I miss that car.

Wow! That's quite a story. At least your Torino went out in a noble, life-saving incident. I hope there's a car heaven because, if there is, my Dad's there right now putting your car back together. He sure seemed to like tinkering with his Torino while I was growing up. Then, before he passed away, he made sure mine were all tuned up and running well. Anyway, I think I would have loved your car. Hold onto those memories.

OMG ! I can't thank you enough for making this video ! I want to tell you my story of the 1970 Torino . Where do I start ? My grandmother bought my mother a 1970 Torino brougham in 1971 . this was the car I grew up in . I was three years old . my mother sold it to my brother in the late '70s . Flash forward to the '80s when my first car was a 1973 Gran Torino . My second car was a 70 Torino brougham just like my mother's and my brother had . These all had hideaway headlights . And yes these cars were very prone to rust being from Michigan. Flash forward again and now I'm 52 year's old and I found a 1970 1/2 falcon that I am restoring . I find that this body style is the most sexy of any car ever made ! Some notable things that I've noticed is the cursive Torino emblem on the deck lid on yours was normally on the hood. Also some Torino's had Amber colored parking light lenses in the front and some head clear . I could go on with more details but I'll leave it at that . Great video ! thanks from a 70 Torino lover !

The thing is, I remember when young guys would long for the day they’d be old enough to drive. They’d plan to inherit their mom’s family sedan (which happened to have a big, V8 engine) and they’d fix it up, repaint it, install a nice stereo, give it mag wheels and drive like stuntmen. I just can’t imagine my kids daydreaming about getting their hands on my Corolla and doing anything special. Sigh.

We had a white one, red interior. same year. I can remember washing it, all those small square on the front grill, running my finger around them with a wet rag. Very painful to do, sliced my fingers many times. My mother gave it to my idiot spazcase brother on his 17th birthday, who in 2 weeks while stoned out of his brains, ran it sideways off the road at a 90 degree country road turn and into a cornfield. Beautiful car was bent into a U. The whole car was racked, totaled and towed to the junkyard. I cried. Such a pity.

In the early 1980s with my father, we restored a ‘72 Capri, a ‘74 Mustang II and a ‘67 Mustang. They all turned out to be very fun cars to drive. And the 4-cylinder engines were not as intimidating as the V-8. So, while I have no direct experience with a Maverick I can see that it could be a lot of fun. Of course, the Torino 500 has a lot more potential to be a beastly muscle car AND to be collectible with a high resale value. If it were my decision I’d try to have both the Maverick and the Torino (or course) but if I had to choose just one then, for me, it’s Torino hands down.
