Watch this incredible transformation from a junker 1979 CR250 Red Rocket to a beautiful, unique Cruiser,... the Ratt Rocket! None of the original parts from this old MX classic were altered in the build. This video has loads of creative and practical bike building, and restoring ideas and techniques!

As someone who's into engines and tools and machines and motorcycles its crazy to me that I found your channel because of your video where you keep a grocery store lobster as a pet. I said hey that's interesting and watched it and said huh he was talking about jellyfish and stuff too maybe ill see his other stuff, then I said wait he restores old dirtbikes too? What?

Leon got me here. I love vintage MX bikes. My first was a 1980 CR80 when I was 11 and weighed 100lbs. I held on for dear life. I could smoke all other 80’s to the first corner and never let up. Kaplan Cycles….another amazing channel keeping the 2 Strokes alive! This seating position and the violent powerbands of these early CR’s is gonna be insane!!!

When I was a teenager I had a Honda MT50. It was a 1984 I think, or from around that year anyway. I normally rode it to school every day but in wintertime I replaced the rear shocks with ring-spanners to lower it so I could easily flat-foot it and ride it on the ice. I always thought it had great chopper-potential when looking at it in that lowered position and you just proved that. Great build and video, thanks for sharing. Say hi to Leon for me please.

When I was 13 I had a 1974 Kawasaki F11 250 that someone before me had pretty much converted to a strict dirtbike. I bought it from a neighbor down the street because it didn't run. I pulled the jug off to see the cylinder was badly scarred but my dad was a tool and die maker so he bored it out and got an oversized piston. I installed all of that and then saw it had no spark. Points and condenser later it fired on the 1st kick. That bike served me well for years afterwards.

You should try fermented molasses to get any rust off of ferrous based parts. Had an old guy teach me this technique and it’s the best I’ve found. 10:1 Water to molasses. Let it ferment in a bucket and dip your parts for as long as you wish. The stinkier it gets the better it works!

This is cool! I had a 1974 Suzuki TM125 i got bored and turned it into a drag bike, split the cases and changed the gearing on 1st and 2nd gear for quicker starts, it also ran on cox airplane fuel, (had some nitro methane in it), and had to drill out the carb main jet to get enough fuel to run it. It looked similar to your CR ratt rocket but more level with aluminum tubes for forks,no suspension and no rake on front end. Was pretty quick on 1/8th mi strip. But not so much on 1/4mi. Nice video!👍

I've got a very complete and running '01 CR250R in the garage that just needs a suspension job (it's a little stiff for my son's weight and intended purpose - trail riding), the engine gone through, and a general cosmetic "freshening up".
