DON'T BE MEAN TO THE SHREKLE! I'D LIKE TO SEE YOU FORMAT A MEDIA MUCH BIGGER THAN YOU WERE EVER MADE FOR! HE DID HIS BEST AND HE DOESN'T NEES YOU NEGATIVITY!
In the PSP modding community this sort of thing was very common. Not with the TB+ storage because they didn't exist yet; but, back in the day MemorySticks (Sony's proprietary memory card because of course) were ungodly expensive and they never made one larger than 32GB. So, some genius created the "Photofast Adapter". It was for Sony cameras but fit the PSP too; and it allowed you to fit two MicroSD cards in the MemoryStick slot using a RAID format. Most people put in a pair of 16GB cards to have a cheap 32GB of space for music and movies or a pair of then-expensive 32GB cards for 64 GB of piracy bliss. Every so often when a new mega sized MicroSD card comes out, some hero will buy a pair, stick them in their PSP, and share the results with the forum readers, all three of us. It turns out Sony massively future proofed the PSP. They'll read a terabyte, probably even two, no problem. Well, one problem... It's very slow, like Frank in the sunshine. Using it with custom firmware and the Categories Lite plug-in is highly recommend to speed things up. And it can play WAV, unlike the Zune.
Most likely iPods use a 16 bit number to store the number of songs it has on, 16 bit numbers can hold exactly 65,536 unique values. That’s probably what was causing it to brick.
I'm not really surprised that the iPod choked on so many songs. iTunes was always really bad about handling large libraries. My memory is failing, but I think it kept it's database for the whole library in one file and would have to basically rewrite it every time it updated. I had a library of about 100,000 songs at one point and it took forever to start the program. I wouldn't be surprised if the iPod wasn't also doing similar.
The real win here is that even though it was a headache to restore, it's working better than the last ipod did with double the storage. The stability alone is worth all the extra work
May not be the RAM that's limited but the space allocated for the track counter. If only 16 bits are allocated for the number, that counter maxes out at 65,535 and possibly caused the iPod to crash because of a buffer overflow error (the bits overwrite into memory allocated for something else and that flipped bit causes mayhem).
Seeing how the iPod bricked after 65,702 songs were on it, it made me think of 65,535. This is a special number, because it is 2^16 - 1. This is the biggest integer number you can store in 2 bytes. In programming, this would be a short. The programmers of the iPod's OS probably chose to store the number of songs using a short because it's a pretty standard data type, and they didn't expect someone to put more than 65,535 songs on their iPod. Going over 65,535 can in some cases cause the count to wrap back around to 0 when you add to it. Somewhere in the iPod OS, it is being told that there are only 166 songs on the iPod, when there aren't.
Apple devs usually do shit like this. They put unreasonable restrictions in their os within their hardware specification (like Mac is only capable of having 6 or 8 USB ports at all). I mean storing the absolute max value in an int or a long wouldn't hurt a lot in terms of efficiency or programming. They are just microoptimizing to maximum
@@justforrobux4193 thank god because if they did theh would cost 700 dollars for 2GB of storage , then they would charge you another 600 for the proprietary transfer cable
I had troubles with modding iPods to crazy amounts of storage before. I found out that the Raspberry Pi Imager Works really well to reformat the cards.
me watching Her (2013): the idea of a person having an intimate romantic feeling for a computer is a bit reaching me watching this video: I think I just fell in love with a Bluetooth speaker
There's this emperor and he asks this shepherd's boy, "How many seconds in eternity?" And the shepherd's boy says, "There's this iPod of 2 terabyte storage. It takes the speed of USB 2.0 to load it and a 64MB RAM to process it." "Every hundred years, the DankPods comes and fill this iPod with 1 song." "And when the entire iPod is fulfilled, the first second of eternity will have passed!"
think its pretty rad that you can have huge battery life on a portable media player like this and have an entire entertainment library where ever you go just sitting in ur pocket
I did this to an iPod classic and it worked but then down the road it crashed. Tried to adjust the board inside and the battery cable slot broke off the board :(. Tried using two other boards and they broke the same way. I have another IPod classic but worried bout breaking again. Wish Apple would bring them back. Awesome video mate!!
I don't care about Apple at all... But I love this channel. I don't know why but you and your iPods are amazing. You make me want to buy one. Not to mod it, just to have it.
i havent owned an ipod since like iphone 3gs, more than 10 years, and i dont even care about ipod anymore, but this guy is so entertaining that im just binge watching all your ipod videos lol
Nice to see another storage-crazy guy. I have two 1 TB and three 512 GB SD cards. I also have the 1TB variant of Samsung S10+ which supports a 1TB card (thus 2TB effectively).
I love this guy!!!!!!!!! Lol. I've never been so excited for someone. I guess it's because I love music. Funny I was thinking of just getting one for working out. 1 terra bite is all I need. You have a new fan man!
I have a much older generation of these cards, with hdd to compact flash to SD, and I often have to reboot it 3 or 4 times before iTunes will see it and I get the "corrupted iPod" message occasionally but it's still working pretty well otherwise. I'm getting to the point where I should replace the battery soon but I'm dreading opening it up again.
Dank pods: try’s to put 2000GB of music and videos on an iPod Dank pods: WHY IS THIS TAKING SO LONG iTunes: ABOUT 4 DAYS REMAINING Dank pods: well this is going to be a LONG video.
i'm not sure which generation ipod classic I have but I bought it in 2008 maybe. its a 160 gig . I was just looking up how to restore an ipod and found your sight. I"ve seen a few videos of people changing the battery on these and if I could just get a new battery I would have been extremely happy but now you have just really peaked my interest. I never thought it possible to add more space. even one TB would be extremely awesome. first i need to buy I new battery and try to change that out. hahah thank you for your hilarious videos. I dont know if I would have had as much patience as you had to do this hahah.
0:53 "I rush on to eBay to find a replacement, but some JERK made the iPod prices higher. Now I can't buy it." *shows DankPods channel* "I really hate this guy, I really hate him so much!"
Subbed to you not so long ago, binge watched a shed stuffed with your vids which got me wanting some iPods. Today went to my local flea market and found 2 iPod touches, 5th gen nano, 7th gen nano and an iPad 1st gen for £25. iPods are working, iPad is a sad boi.
