The 2022 Tesla Model 3 Performance Is Still A Desirable Electric Vehicle 

It’s been a while since we’ve driven a Model 3 and it still doesn’t disappoint. We’ll be eager to get behind the wheel of the new Kia EV6, Genesis GV60, and BMW i4 Gran Coupe very soon. Does anyone think any of these newcomers can dethrone the Tesla?

The Model 3 Performance is still in a class of its own.

My 2022 Tesla Model 3 Performance does 0-60 mph in 3.23 seconds without the 1 foot rollout and 3.04 with the rollout subtracted. It did 11.43 @ 117.67 mph for the 1/4 mile. Other people have done even faster times than that with the same car.

I enjoy Redline Reviews because you're not afraid of being nit-picky or overly critical on cars. When spending over 50000$+ on a car it's good to know all the ups and downs of certain vehicles. Many reviewers with million+ subscribers just say the car is fun to drive or not and repeat press releases from manufacturers. Great vid!

I've had mine for 6 months now. I regret nothing. I don't believe there's a video that can properly portray the acceleration. It never gets old🔥🔥

I recently purchased a Model 3 Performance and wondered if I could adjust to living without Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. So far I don’t really miss it. I have an iPhone personally but I can still get notifications in the screen for my messages, and the built in navigation is still pretty nice. I would prefer to have an on screen interface with Apple Music, but other than that the Tesla v11 interface is nice and it just works.

Kinda looks like your friends bumper was replaced but not color matched. Tesla replaced my front bumper under warranty for a defect and I got one from the factory. Turned out to be a different shade of blue. Looked exactly like what we see in this video. They repainted mine and its perfect now. I'd suggest he point that out to them.

This car has the best tech, like sentry mode and the sound system is awesome! Performance is also amazing

I've never clicked so fast - I ordered this exact spec, due between end of April/May. I was kind of wondering if I would be happy with the blue/white combo so when I saw this come up in my feed it made my day. Definitely feeling good about my choice after watching this video.

Had CarPlay in my Bolt. The audio options here are vastly better (along with almost everything else). CP is a bit of a red herring.

These performance models are wicked fast. Definitely the benchmark performance wise, but can’t say the same with the interior game. Ofc it’s trademark Tesla design but would want maybe a heads up display to reflect speedo at least. Another downside is the fact that everyone is in a white Tesla. Pro or con depending on how you look at it though. Great review Sofyan

For Android Auto/Carplay I usually like them in every car but in this one I don't care. I usually love them because the default infotainment is slow or frustrating to use in whatever car I'm driving. I have an Android personally and I actually paid to get a head unit installed in my old Camry so I could have wireless Android Auto. It works like a charm and I love it. However, recently Google has made my phone go in to "Car Mode" where it doesn't show any of my notifications and puts my phone in this weird mode. I hate it so unbelievably much. Anyway, when my Model 3 is delivered, I'll mount my phone somewhere with Waze and then use the Tesla screen for navigation, Spotify, and everything else. I think that's the perfect setup for me.

Tesla M3/Y should definitely get the same criticism as the xc40 for not having carplay/Android Auto and satellite radio

Great video and summary! I've owned the Model 3 (late 2018 model) and the new Refresh Model S and for the money, the Model 3 may still be the "better" car. Meaning that for the premium cost of the Model S, I don't think you get that much more car. Just an opinion. To me, the Model S is a better car overall, but not $36k better. So in answer to your question about "dethroning", I think the Model 3 will still be a benchmark that's tough to beat for the price. But the door is wide open for any car makers to give it a real run. In five years, it'll be anyone's game. What Tesla is going to quickly get beaten in the short term is in service, build quality, amenities, and general luxe features. The other electric cars already on the market have some features that Tesla doesn't have, and the ones being introduced this year and next will absolutely blow it away with features and luxury. Of course, they still won't have the charging infrastructure for a while. If you're ever in Lancaster County give me a shout and you can try out the Refreshed Model S if you haven't done so.

Curious to know why you got rid of your model 3 and got a rav4 prime instead.

EV vehicle should be safe, reliable, offer the most trouble free ownership and offer the most hassle or worry free charging experience. So far nothing is close to Tesla in these terms.

I got my Model 3 Performance in Red with white interior in 26 days. Delivered on February 23rd 2022.

Not sure if anyone will read this but the Tesla model 3 does have the face detecting technology to tell if your eyes are on the road as well as the torque sensors in the wheels

Aren't there only 14 speakers in the 2022 models now? I read that there was no more center dash speaker because of some sort of "sound performance" issues which just translates to "cost-cutting" measures for us regular folk.

These performance models need more supportive seats and a HUD to better differentiate. Adaptive dampers would also go a long way improving daily livability.

Still trying to decide which EV would be the right one to go with as first EV. I like the Model 3 price point.

At this price range please try to get a similar vehicle that goes as fast as an Audi R8, tech as good as german rivals, best range in its class, charging infrastructure and retains an excellent resale value. i4M has less range, less performance and costs more with all the options you need to add.

Almost everyone seems to forget that the Model 3 is about efficiency. Whether it’s giving you a good range on a charge, low coefficient of drag or designed for manufacturing simplicity to keep the car profitable for Tesla so that it can simply survive. And after 10 years of struggling they are doing well. Give this young American car company a break. It just started making cars and needs to make profits to advance its tech and survive. The tech will get cheap and the electric charging infrastructure will improve over time. Already more car companies are joining Tesla in making EV which is what Elon always wanted. If you are American, be proud this American company is successful. All I keep reading is mostly hate against Tesla. I don’t get it at all. The interior is perfectly fine by the way. If you like more buttons and complexity then just buy another car. Some of us like it just fine.

No, I don't expect "inconsistent gaps" in my new M3. While I do admit the build quality from Shanghai appears to be better than Fremont, GT will eliminate that for sure.

Tesla should definitely add Apple CarPlay.

I like the combination of the Model 3 LR + acceleration boost. All the other ev's haven't been able to put it all together like Tesla does. Tech and charging infrastructure is how they have stayed far ahead of the rest.

Great review, I'm still debating ordering one. I hated the interior, but then I test drove one and it was so fun that I forgot that I wasn't a fan of the interior. Just crazy for the price that there is quality control issues, but then again the performance is crazy so it puts it in that grey area for me on pulling the trigger on it.

One of my favorite things is how SLOW you can drive a Tesla. I have the '21 M3P and when you take your foot off the brake...it sits there, matter of fact the throttle is heavy enough that you have to want to gun it...there is no "slipping into high throttle". People who talk about range with Tesla's supercharger network are a waste of my time. It is like asking about a new ICE car's gas tank - it is beyond stupid. Every other car does NOT have the Supercharge network, which to me is a HUGE miss by all of them.

Such a cool car and so practical. It would be nice to have ambient lighting to give the cabin a bit more presence in an already steril, minimalist design.

Thanks for this video personally I like crome over blacked out and driving around my Ecobbost Mustang Premium Pony Package(It adds all the crome) in a city full of musle cars I get thumbs up and compliments all the time so crome is still a thing... Also it sucks that Tesla is lowering the quality, feature set( they took out the radar too) of the model 3 but raising the price...

The rear seat space is the same in the Y, just a better knee angle unless you’re getting a 7 seater. Also that tray and cup holder addition are after market.

I think these do just fine with Apple CarPlay. Have a MYP Great review. I would get it but every 4th car in CA is a model 3 or Y. That’s holds me back.

The only thing I was a little disappointed in is that you have to pay extra for a home link type garage door opener.i enjoy that it is a great 5 person performance car that is practical and reliable to drive daily

Add Sirius streaming and head up display too! It still bugs me that there is nothing in front of the steering wheel in my performance. Still love the car though!

There is wiper controls on the end of the left stalk. Press for one wipe, and press and hold for the wiper water function

I actually do not miss the driver screen at all. I had a Model S loaner and where I keep the steering wheel I could not see how fast I was going. In fact most of the ice cars I’ve owned the steering wheel blocked the majority of speedometer. I think HUD would be better on most cars.

Eh I dunno ... the Perf price add over the LR models of the 3/Y isn't that much, and to get that significant and class-smoking power hike, lowered suspension, the unique wheels, perf tires, larger brakes, red calipers, aluminum pedals, Carbon fiber rear spoiler, Matrix headlights (you get different headlights on the LR 3/Y), and the Track Mode software pack (only on the 3/S so far, not avail yet on the YP), that's pretty compelling for a few grand more. Oh, also for the 3P you have the option to get the Track Package, which is not possible for anyone else (forged wheels, Cup 2s, race pads, race brake fluid). Tesla ain't got time right now to make fatter wheel arches and build an extra set of seat designs, that'll all come later I think ;)

I think the software is well polished, I wouldn't bother with Android Auto or Apple Carplay imo. HUD would be nice, to keep a minimalistic theme.....

Not many M3P on the road. Lots of SR and LR but that’s about it.

I was debating between getting a Tesla M3 or a Mustang Mach-E this year and ran into the "cost" dilemma you were talking about at @28:50... While it is true that M3 is no longer eligible for the EV tax credit and the other competitors are, the increased demand in cars recently has dealerships to markup the costs by $5-10k, which essentially wipes out the $7.5k you'd be getting from the EV tax credit 😞 Bc Tesla is direct-to-consumer and does not have any hidden markups that dealerships do, I ultimately decided to go with the M3. I've only had my Tesla for a week, but no regrets yet! 😄

I really wish they’d give the 3 a real dash like the model S. I’d happily pay the extra it’d cost to have one, but as it stands it still feels too minimalistic to me.

I still hate the minimal interior in this car.

Only other EV I’ve driven is the Volkswagen ID4. While it is a very nice vehicle, it just feels like it’s missing something. Like when you have a really nice steak, still tastes great but it’s missing the seasoning. The usability of the VW is amazing…plenty of space, the build quality is top notch, etc. it’s the driving experience that left me hanging. It didn’t even feel watered down compared to the Tesla. It just felt like…nothing. It was so vanilla that I honestly felt bored on the test drive. I’m not talking about performance, I’m talking about the feedback and experience itself. It’s honestly one of the only times I’ve driven a vehicle and wanted to cut it short because I disliked it that much. The user interface is absolutely atrocious, nobody can deny that. It was so confusing trying to find this or find that. It’s a valiant effort by Volkswagen and it has a ton of really nice features (the full glass roof with built in shade is amazing!), but it’s just not there yet for them.

I think it is still a solid choice. The competition is red hot in this market segment, but I still think the Model 3 holds its own.

Once the Nio ET5 arrives in the US, I'll sell my model 3 performance.
