Happy Friday everyone! We'd like to thank Keeps for sponsoring this video, please be sure to go to keeps.com/redline to get 50% off your first order! The Camry TRD is one of those surprisingly good family cars that is without a doubt the best-sounding one you'll find for under $35k with a V6. Toyota just killed this engine in the Highlander so you can bet the next generation Camry will also lose this V6. Get one of these while you still can!
Surprisingly good? Yeah no sofyan. An accord is the real surprising good family car. The Camry however… 😬 eh that’s a different story and not in a good way
I got mine in 2020 for $31k. None of the others had a price as low, or a N/A engine on regular gas, or as good a sound. I never thought of it as a sports sedan. Come on. It's a Camry with a body kit. It looks nicer. But I can still expect 150k trouble free miles because it's a Camry.
My first car was a 2005 Camry V6 and man that thing would spin its tires like crazy. Put a smile on my face seeing this TRD Camry doing the same. Sure, it doesn't put the power down as fast, but at least it puts a smile on your face!
I used to work at a Toyota dealership and got to drive several of the 96-2002 Camrys. There was a night and day difference between the V6 automatic and the V6 manual. The manual models were a beast that could chirp the tires up to 3rd gear. I would even say they were quicker than a IS300. It's a shame that the manual transmission was discontinued afterwards.
@@evoman44 You're lucky, I never got the chance to try the manual. But my camry made it to 430,000 km on its original engine/tranny and I still smoked my cousins 3.4l 2004 impala and their 2006 2.0L turbo Jetta. I did all this with a flashing engine light hahah. I miss that car so much but I have to say it was on its last leg and the mileage was awful
I agree! My guess is that it's gonna be replaced by the new 2.4L turbo 4 that's used in the new Lexus NX. Toyota just announced that the 2023 Highlander will have that new powertrain replacing the V6 so it will likely become the Camry's new optional engine in the next gen.
Amazing engine. Our 2009 Camry SE V6 has 230K miles on it and the only major engine component to fail was the water pump. I know that Toyota was under the gun to reduce engine size(even MB couldn't save most AMG models from it), but the new 2.4T hasn't been praised much in the NX350, and now Toyota is moving it to the Highlander. It makes 40 less hp there over the 2GR, and it is nowhere near as smooth.(quite buzzy even compared to the Hyundai family 2.5T or Mazda turbo).
I feel like calling this engine from 2006 is doing it a disservice. Toyota updated it significantly a few years ago, and essentially brought it up to date as a modern engine. The same goes for the Honda J-series, which has been out since the very late 90s.
The 2GR-FE and the 2GR- FKS share no components whatsoever, the only thing they have in common is the displacement. Its a bit misleading to say it’s the same engine
Thanks for the walk through, great video. I just picked up my ordered XSE black/wind chill two tone loaded and pulled the trigger on the full TRD accessory package as well. All the great features plus the TRD wheels, black out trim etc. Couldn't be happier. V6 baby
It runs 14.2 quarter-mile and it's 5.6. Stock 6.1??? Wtf are you talking about it's noted and been ruining a 14.2 for year's and year's and 5.8 is the XSE.
The new Camry chassis feels so good. My girlfriend has a 2021 SE, just the 4 cylinder, and though it’s not very quick let alone fast it feels really good through the twisty roads I take it down. And still gets near 30 MPG while doing so. Nice video
@@tyresepalmer4732 I would take it to save the $$$$. With gas at over $5.00 per gal in many parts of the US, screw the HP - I like my $$$$ for other more important stuff than gas. It's too bad that these auto manufactures don't design a performance Hybrid - the technology has been around for 20 years at least. I have a performance hybrid sedan that gets 27 city and 35 highway and has 365hp and does 0 - 60 in 4.8 sec. AND it's 7 years old! For many years they have had the tech to design a 400 HP Hybrid that gets 50 mpg - but for some reason that they keep that a secret, they chose not to built it, who knows why?
I went from a ‘19 se Camry to a ‘22 trd Camry. I definitely think the trd was made for people who love driving vs the other models which are more comfortable rides and made for casual drivers. I freaking love the trd though!
For the life of me, I don't understand why the TRD isn't based on the XSE, or at least as an option. The lighting, more aggressive bumpers, and interior goodies all lend to a sharper TRD over this SE-based model.
@@tinhinnh for about the same price, accord sport 2.0T has dual zone climate control, moonroof, heated front seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Wireless phone Charger, blind spot monitor and rear cross traffic alert.
@@tinhinnh I used to think that too, but with the K5 GT/Sonata N-Line and Accord Sport 2.0T all having a similar price, more content, and being faster, I feel Toyota could've done better.
@@williamegler8771 The AWD wouldn’t be bad, the 6 speed is just for the enthusiast, but it is a small percentage lol. Just like people right now trying to find 6 speed sedans like the TL/G35/7
I absolutely love this car and I'm picking mine up today but I have two thoughts. The first is why there's not a horsepower increase with the TRD exhaust and also why Toyota thought that getting rid of the hood struts was a cost cutting measure when I don't think it's going to be saving them very much at all. I will definitely be installing those on my Camry immediately. Thank you for the awesome reviews!!!! 😇😎🏁
@@datboi8442I ended up getting an XSE instead but I'm kind of glad I did because that trim grade comes with more features then the TRD and the wave that markups are now I didn't really pay any more to go to that one and I still got a V6. 😇
@@Unknownn858 I'm kind of aware of that but luckily I got my xse V6 below MSRP because I didn't have to deal with one of those ridiculous dealerships that is guilty of that. 🤣🤣
The TRD Camry just doesn't seem "finished" yet. It's hard to explain. At the end of the day, even after driving, it's still a Camry. It still drives like a Camry. It still feels like a Camry. In a way, it's still missing the TRD but looks like it has it. Even the N line Sonata doesn't quite feel like a normal sonata. The TRD Camry is still missing that magic touch to make it worth wild.
I was initially really interested, but the fact that Toyota didn't take the highest trim levels for the TRD and didn't offer AWD are pretty major turnoffs. The lowest trim Mazdas have full LED lighting and heated seats. Huge missed opportunities here.
I can’t get over the price for 300 hp and 6.1 0-60, when you have the Elantra n, sonata n line, k5 gt, Honda Accord. All of those cars destroy this what is the Camry Trd good at besides a body kit? When I was 15 I thought it was cool
I have the 2020 black version, love it, tons of compliments. Handles the tight curves excellent. smooth as hell. Don't listen to the negativity here. Only negative is the paint looks amazing but the clearcoat is soft
Do you feel there is any ‘lack of features’ like the comments are saying, or is it minuscule and irrelevant to the daily-drivability and experience of this car? I am going to buy either a TRD or an XSE and I can’t decide, so your opinion would help a ton.
@@awesomesauze7 the features it lacks like lane change assistance, heated seats, passenger seat not powered are minuscule and rarely used anyway for me, it's about the look the handling the sound and the fact there are very few on the road is cool. Handles incredible especially the faster you drive, great excelleration as well
Super sharp in that new color !!!!...i definitely would go with the XSE V6 in that color and order the trd exhaust through the dealer ....i like the gloss black rims of the XSE BETTER
When talking about "the V6 Camry's" I'd like to note that the TRD is considerably cheaper than the other V6 trims. The TRD is faster, but there's no way they'd give you higher trimmed options on a lower priced car.
wow, it's a modern car i'd actually own! I've always loved old cars more and in last 30 years i can't remember a single car aside of Skoda Octavia or Dacia Logan that i'd actually want to buy new. but this car, it looks beautiful for one (other cary are styled like oversized toys) plus it's a Toyota so reliability and no-nonsense engineering is there. Nice to know that there is something new out there I'd actually want to buy.
I have 2021 in black and enjoying every day with the car. Average around 26mpg Not the everyday Camry and in the back roads you feel it. Only 6k miles after 9 months with out any issues not that I expected any.
Same here. Upscale features such as heated seats are a must have for me in every new vehicle I buy from now on. I may pick the TRD over the XSE if it had all of the luxury features. I used to have a 2015 Camry XSE V6 that I bought new in 2015.
In the current gas pricing economy, my 2020 se gets 40 mpg on a full tank. Of course with driving decent. For someone looking to feel sporty, don’t want to break the bank and concerned about gas. The Camry se is perfect. If you up for the xse or trd, don’t expect 40 mpg. The se is sporty enough for me, maybe for you too. It has a good pull and nice revs when in sport mode and manually down shifting. Considering upgrading the exhaust for a bit more sound kick …….
My 2022 SE on an all 100 mile freeway trip showed 40mpg in fuel data screen and that basically was averaging 75/80 mph. Shocked and happy. The car has roughly 2500 miles on it. This is also a great looking car 😎
Toyota hit a nerve with the Camry TRD; most people buy a 911 but drive it like its a Camry. So, why not just dress up the Camry like its a 911? I'm too old for it now, but 15 years ago I wouldn't have touched a Camry with a 10-ft pole (I bought an Acura TL). If I were 35 today, I'd skip the Acura and just get the Camry TRD.
Toyota offered an automatically opening hood with struts up to 2019 on all trims except the L trim (which was for rental fleets). After that, nope. Glad I still have a "premium" features like that eh
This V6 known as a 2GR-FKS shares absolutely nothing but the displacement with the 2GR-FE from the 2006 Camry. I’m a big fan but it’s a bit misleading to call it an old engine since it was all new when this camry came out
I’m wondering when will they come out with the next generation because looking at Hyundai, Kia and Others they have stepped it up in terms of interior and exterior so hope it’s a great next generation
Went to the dealership to pick my 2021 TRD up and they marked up $5,000 more and they slapped a $35,000 sticker on it, got ripped off but I still love it
Bro , the same thing happened to me ( 37000.00), but I love that sexy black Trd. It is definitely a head turner. I'm thinking about throwing the black lambo louvers in the rear. What do you think?
I can't say anything about this model but I bought a 2017 xle and it's been an amazing car. If I had any gripe it has a couple rattles that drive me bananas but the sound system is more than sufficient to drown out the noise.
Toyota really made this car the best upgrading the front bumper and rear bumper with dual exhaust other models are boring with single exhausts I would get one and also V6 with no turbo is good the motor is reliable turbo engines won't last so long the only best thing about turbo is it is fuel efficient
I mean the Trd Camry is basically a Camry SE with a V6 and if we're being really technical it's basically a base Camry with a V6, the way they used to offer in the 2010/2011 model it's just the SE instead of a LE
It is but it it’s not at the same time. The TRD makes so it basically isn’t. They should’ve made a stock V6 LE and SE with this gen. I think it’s a huge missed opportunity. The TRD was totally unnecessary.
How did the wheels get curbed already? Toyota makes weird decisions with what they choose to sacrifice. They seem to be embracing the whole less is more concept.
Camry is my favorite rental car, enough room, all the features I need. Worst ever: Camaro convertible. Had to lower roof to get 3-suiter inside the car. Trunk too small, visibility too hindered. I'm an old, but when they "upgraded" me to that Camaro, I should have said no. I'm sure the Camaro was fine for someone who wants that. Camry and Accord are excellent sedans for regular people.
Sunroofs are overrated. Just another point of failure that can cause thousands in damage when it inevitably leaks and gets electronic components in the footwell wet. I have a sunroof on my 2017 Camry and I've literally only used it once and the wind noise was so bad I just closed it and never used it again.
You can option an XSE AWD 4cyl with TRD effects, wheels, floor mats, shift knob, etc! The only thing missing is the V6 and exhaust plus the TRD suspension. You then have all the options of comfort, LED lights and looks. Go on the sight and spec it out.
Question Can we have a "skip" button for the sponsor ads that are now embedded in seems like everyone's videos now days? Sort of defeats the purpose of my paid you tube premium subscription. I think the TRD version would be a stronger seller if they branded it something other than 'Camry' - it could be its own standalone model. 'Camry' = grandad's car.
I would not be surprised if Toyota replaced that incredible V6 with the powertrain from the Rav4 Prime. It would also not be a bad thing. You get the same horsepower, better acceleration and better mpg.
15:36 because it uses the same chassis as the 4 cylinder models that has AWD option. That's why the hump is there. He even said there's AWD option for the 4 cylinder models in the video.
If Toyota would make this car with a manual transmission, as they do with the Tacoma, I personally think more people would buy it. I know that a lot of people do not by manual transmissions, but that is because they do not know how to drive them. Train the car dealership to teach people how to drive a manual transmission and I would bet that many people would opt for the manual transmission version. I think a lot of people are just scared because they have never driven a manual transmission car and they do not know where to begin, nor do they have anyone to teach them. Personally, I taught myself, but that was in the 80s when a lot of people drove manual transmissions, so I didn't have the same fear factor that I think people have today.
Thank you for getting rid of those wierd overly wide shots that pull in at the beginning of your videos on this one. Was kinda of off putting and out of place. Keep the great content going!
