The 2022 Volvo XC60 Recharge Extended Range Is A Nicely Upgraded PHEV Luxury SUV

When #Volvo first introduced their T8 Plug-in Hybrid powertrain, it was a huge leap forward into the electrified space for the company. As the industry continues to move on, the #XC60Recharge gets a massive upgrade to keep it competitive. For 2022, there will be two different models, the #VolvoXC60Recharge and a new version with an extended range battery. The upgraded battery now includes up to 35 miles of EV only range, an additional 55 HP for a total of 455 and 523 lb-ft of torque, and Volvo claims the #XC60 #Recharge will get to 60 in just 4.5 seconds.

Happy Friday everyone! Last week we spent some time in the new extended range XC60 Recharge. It gets some HUGE upgrades this year and really brings it to the same if not better level than the new Lexus NX 450h+. We do want to point out, there are a few times where we call this model a 2023, its actually a 2022 model years but when looking on dealer lots, you want to find the "Extended Range" title in the window stickers. That is the model that gets the increased power and range versus the old T8 Recharge.

Unless I’m mistaken, I think your battery was empty when you were doing your 0-60 runs. As I understand, that would have a big impact on overall performance.

I always have to say one thing in this review: I consider as an volvo / polestar products especially this one, Because they have safety features on their vehicles. Also this will be my top pick over it's competition, Because it had less emissions than gas vehicles of course & Also this vehicle is fun to drive around town with & Show it to my friends & family as well. Overall, incredible job & review sofyan.

Just Traded in my 2020 xc60 T8 Inscription. Because I wanted the New Extended Range R model. When it came in, a 2022 Polestar Engineered model came in with mine off the truck, and with Extended Range. So they tempted me with a switch as it was not anybody's order. ( a Timing thing they said) I was told that it was just a more Flashy R-model. ... Well its got Wide Tires & Gold Brakes. And Wow , NOT the same ride as my Inscription At All. But they said swing by & they would change some olhins Dampener adjusters on the car to make my ride smoother have yet to swing by. AS for the new * ANDROID AUTO SYSTEM * The jury is still out for me. I have a I-phone so Apple car play is not an option, yet all I can do is play over Bluetooth. Like many have mentioned before there are very Few customization features for the center display screen. (yet ) In fact id say only Half the control Options I had on my 2020 T8 Inscription. The New Android system does feel Beta for sure. The Dealer assured me that Many more Apps & Things are to come as this new Android System has almost unlimited Upgradable potential. Note: The Google Navigation is way better with my voice. ... My Primary reason for the switch was to get the Extended Range T8. It Almost double the the full EV Range, & Wow the new Battery & Motor does not disappoint. As for the Polestar Engineered part of the car? its got Massive Gold Brakes behind the rims? and Yes, they stop the Car. ... they R Growing on me. I've been told by multiple Volvo reps now all my concerns re: the Android infotainment System would be fixed in the " NEAR " future. We will see. *Update:*: I got the Ohlins Dampers set to #12 , smooths out the ride, Way Better. ( #1- 22 notches ) 😜 👍 dealer showed my how " Luv it Now more than ever"

Hey Sofyan: I test drove the previous version with 400hp and found it to be very bumpy on rough roads, and it’s handling to be practically non-existent around the curves. I also found the steering, even in its firmest setting, to be very soft. Has any of that changed with this new refresh/update?

Love it. This is what all cars should have been years ago - Plug-in Hybrids and a rebate to help with the final cost. With 35 miles of range, most people can get to work on electric power alone; maybe recharge at work, then get home on electric power? With an 18 gallon tank, you could go 600 miles between fill-ups. Full electric is great and I will get one soon, but the plug-in hybrid is the way to go until the next generation battery is ready.

When cars that normally would come with very expensive leather and wood, now come with vinyl or cloth and plastic (or recycled rubber mats) as interior materials, are the prices reflecting this de-contenting?? On most cars the leather upgrade is $4000+ so if cars that once had it standard are now removing it are the cars $4000 less expensive??? Seems like manufacturers are pulling a fast one with this "ohh, this is animal-free" (but we'll charge you the same as if we put Connolly Leather in there)....

The Volvo engines are actually quite reliable. No issues with any of the 2.0L turbo or turbo/supercharged engines since 2016. The main issue with these high end T8 Volvos tend to be the air suspension if you live in a VERY cold climate. They tend to form ice crystals and the compressor works overtime then dies. Very fringe case though.

3:25: I agree totally about the R-Design looking way better than the Inscriptions because they don't have the silly-looking chrome all around the car's exterior (save for badging)... I'm at a loss as to why automakers put chrome on their cars exterior at all; I have never seen a car where chrome makes the car look better (and that goes for interior as well as exterior)... I'd like to see automakers do away with chrome "badging", as well; few automakers allow the option to paint or remove exterior badging at the factory (Porsche being one of the few)... Why doesn't anybody question these stupid practices? They don't make any car look better; they make them look cheap and tacky at best, and at worst they reflect sunlight into peoples' eyes in interiors (and ditto for "piano black" surfaces, which should all be matte black and non-reflective).

The 24 model year will change that for this XC60. The Momentum, Inscription, and R Design trims will go away. New trim names will be used and a light or dark package will be available in I think all of them. Light is chrome accents and dark is black accents and window surrounds. For me, I like this better. I too want the black trim but did not want the R Design because the suede seats are way too hot and gives me swamp ass. I'll opt mine to be the top trim phev (which in 24 should have 50 miles of electric only range), denim blue, maroon brown seats, dark trim. You can see what the new optioning will look like on the Volvo Italia web site right now.

My 2019 S60 Inscription has been horrible. Horrible build quality. My first and last Volvo. Has been plagued with rattles, buzzes and vibration issues. Additionally, power steering, windows/sunroof and buttons just stop working. Reached out to Volvo USA and dealer it was purchased at, been in and out of the shop too many times to remember. Volvo USA puts it on the dealer....dealer puts it on Volvo....horrible experience. Asked them to buy the piece of crap back and denied my request. I make everyone who is shopping a Volvo, aware of my experience. I am sure I have cost them at least 3 sales at this point. Shame cause it is an attractive sedan, but was never so happy to get rid of a vehicle! Simply making other consumers aware of the issues I had with the piece of crap Volvo produced and the horrible customer service they can expect to receive if god forbid they do have issues like me. At the end of the day we are all consumers, and we should make sure we inform each other of poor companies like Volvo. I recently sold it back to Volvo’s dealer network, and they happily accepted it with the dictionary thick service record on it…..for what….to make a quick buck. That right there should tell you everything you need to know about Volvo. But it doesn’t undo the fact that for the first 2 years of ownership I was unable to take advantage of high used car prices and was stuck with returning my car for service every month. Since day 3 of ownership the car was plagued with quality and reliability issues!!! Funny thing is Volvo is so incompetent that the car is still linked to my phone and it is currently in Chicago at McGrath Volvo for $39500. 2019 black S60 Inscription with 33,915 miles on the odo. I feel sorry for the poor soul that buys it next.

I would stay away from Volvo's manufactured in the US. The ones made in Sweden or China are built to a higher standard in general.

This is exactly what I would expect from any new Volvo. I always try to warn people about their garbage build quality and reliability, but people errantly seem to think Volvo builds quality products. Nothing could be further from the truth. There’s a reason Volvos are consistently at or near the bottom of all published reliability lists.

While there are always outliers and exceptions for every product, Volvos have a good reputation for reliability. So to counter this single individual’s experience with one Volvo, I’ve owned three with virtually zero issues. While I take exception to some things about our S90, reliability is not one of them.

@@wesleywalls7582 Most of Volvo's SUV's are reliable and a very good buy. Not to mention that their entire lineup now earns the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Award.

Sad they will go "fully electric" by 2030 ... I'll never go fully electric. Plug-ins are a great alternative ... and give me leather. Cows do die ... it's also renewable.

PHEV VERSION. The singular most disappointing aspect of the charge system is it inability to set a charge timer either through the car or app. So unless you have a smart home charger people like me on an economy 7 tariff need to be nocturnal to benefit from off peak charging. Volvo UK offer no solution. A retrograde step from earlier models and spoiling my enjoyment of a brand new car!

Volvo for 72k? fuck ya Volvo is a luxury brand but it is not that great luxury one. People will buy Mercedez, BMW and Audi instead of Volvo for that price range the German vehicles are better in reputation and brand image and brand stratification
