While Genesis didn't exactly hit a home run when it comes to the design of the GV60, after spending a full week with this car, the entire package is among the best we've ever sampled in the EV space. Range could be better, but this car charges so quickly, that we can figure it. Do you think Genesis has plans to do a faster version? Especially with the EV6 GT and Ioniq5 N coming later this year?
I like the side profile more than the front end. But overall it’s a great effort, just like all of Hyundai/Kia’s newer vehicles. Genesis vehicles just feel German to me! The steering wheel even reminds me of a Bentley design. I think a rearview camera mirror would also be nice for the price, especially with the rear visibility
We own a Model Y (it's our third Tesla) and also took delivery of a GV60 3 weeks ago. Predictably there are positives and negatives to both. Clearly the big advantage of the Tesla is the far superior charging infrastructure. The GV60 can charge amazingly fast and there are a rapidly increasing number of 350kv chargers, but they are nowhere near as reliable as Tesla Superchargers. We are looking forward to being able to charge the GV60 with Superchargers. Apparently that's coming later this year. As for the difference in range it's well known Tesla tends to overstate range specs whereas Hyundai tends to understate them. Yes, the Tesla has better range, but in the real world it's only about 20% more. Sure, wish the GV60 had as much range, but reality is that we drive more than 200 miles in a single day only a handful of times per year. The biggest reason we did not buy another Model Y is Tesla still has not fixed the ride quality problem. The suspension is way too stiff and that gets old fast. You feel EVERY minor imperfection in the road. We previously had two Model S's which had far far more comfortable rides. But the GV60 is not perfect in this regard either in that IMO the suspension is much too soft, even in sport mode. Makes for great ride quality, but the handling is wimpy if you push the car at all. Very surprised Sofyan did not pick up on this. Too much body roll. The GV60 is not nimble on it's feet at all. But that's really our sole beef with the GV60. As others have said the GV60 interior just blows away the Model Y in pretty much every way. And unlike each Tesla we have owned there are no rattles, squeaks, and groans. Everything fits the way it should and there has been no need to bring the car back to get build quality issues corrected.
Thanks for such a detailed story. Practice is the best criterion of truth. I've heard of complaints about the quality of Tesla's interior before. Well, what do you want, you can’t become a champion in all categories in five years. The hype about the next Tesla has already begun to subside - people have tried what this new product is. Well, the fact that the too soft steering in the Genesis is not quite suitable for such power, because this is a new model and the developers will focus on comfort, because this is a luxury brand. They will fix this issue in the next update. You should never rush, you always need to analyze a bunch of sites and reviews and only then make a decision...
@@yaroslavgorislabe3551 where are you located? Im in Canada and thinking of importing a GV60 as peole are getting them delivered here. we're moving to the USA. I have messages out to many genesis dealerships, and they can not tell me when addtional states will be getting one. (waiting for Florida)bhopefully January / february
The Hyundai/KIA/Genesis group ARE setting the standard for everyone else out there. IMO the playing field is level because these electric motors have no rep, so none of this "history of making great engines" stuff. That said I haven't seen anything from ANYONE as impressive as these EV triplets, good luck to all other mfgs out there, you've got alot of work to do💯
Well for Toyota or Lexus it’s too late. The Toyota evs are already nonexistent at this point. The Lexus ev espically got destroyed by the Koreans before anyones even driven it. I was right once again 😁 Ford has a strong chance since their evs are at the top of the ranks along with the Koreans. Germans evs are up there too
You couldn't be more correct, just wish these review people would state these things in their videos. Hyundai has been setting standards for the last 8 years now in ALL models whether gas or EV of late. From there entry levels up to the top trims. If you buy a new Honda/Toyota/Nissan/CADILLAC/chevy or Ford and get excited about seeing new upgrades to the Cabin or design changes, well know this, its thanks to Hyundai for all that. They forced ALL those brands to offer more and Copy from Hyundai so they could stay competitive. Don't for a second think they wanted to do that for there customers, they only been doing it as they are forced to compete with the offerings of Hyundai/Genesis/Kia
Long time viewer and recently subscribed. Hands down top 3 Car reviewer on RU-vid. Informative, insightful and entertaining. A pleasure to watch everyday!
Yes Tesla is gonna have some serious competition. Great build quality and a True luxury car unlike a tesla which is a luxury priced vehicle and doesn’t have a luxury interior
The Genesis infotainment is a joke though. The native maps as shown in video are laggy. Packaging with the Korean triplets is kind of a miss too - frunk space is limited and the rear cargo underfloor storage lacks way behind Tesla.
@@chrisak49 suppose it depends on if you prefer to have a better quality build and perhaps even ride, to better technology. Not everyone cares about the inside that much hence why a lack of physical buttons etc is OK for them and a large screen is good for them. Others love the feel of a solid car etc and don't care about range or effeciency. That's why car brands work, even if one comaony may own 2 or 3. People have their own tastes
The wired CarPlay is weird especially cuz the smaller screens have it. They’ve been saying they were gonna add iOS Digital Key to the 2020+ sonata and still haven’t
I also prefer the designs of both the other two. Got the Ioniq 5, but honestly it was a toss up between that and the EV6. Don’t regret not waiting for this because I didn’t like the design the moment I saw it.
As a Lexus owner, I’ve been waiting for them to bring out an electric suv bigger than the ux. Still waiting so I’ve ordered a gv60 which should be here in October. So excited
@@naveenthemachine rz450 looks great, but it doesn’t have anything that my gv60 doesn’t, and by the time it gets here (australia), the gv61 will be here with even better features.
I recently got my Elantra serviced and my dealership is also a Genesis dealership. This model looks quite a bit bigger and more elegant in person but I personally don’t like the design nearly as much as any other Genesis model
@@jansenwilder1335 true although rumor has it that the eGV70 will be at least $10k more than this, at around $80k USD. That’s getting into some pretty lofty territory.
The speaker-esque thing on the passenger side door handle is supposed to be a fragrance holder- when you buy the car (at least in Korea), Genesis ships a couple of their fragrance to fit in that specific position. I know it’s a gimmick but at least it has more function than just a fake speaker. I wish that instead of always comparing it to the Korea twins as far as size performance in any other specifications, he would compare it to other cars that this vehicle will compete with. One those cars are brand new so most of us haven't even been in one let alone seen one on the road. Two if we're cross shopping this car we're not comparing it with the Korea twins we're comparing it with other vehicles in its class both EV and combustion vehicles.
Thr is500 is old school and has a glorious sound that cannot be replicated The gv60 ev is as fast as a performance model 3 or model Y Also are you seriously 😒 comparing an is500 to a superior genesis? 😂
I rather just use the key. That delay in between locking and unlocking is not ergonomically sound in my opinion. Now the finger print reader, that’s pretty useful. It would be nice if it would start without having to push the button though.
The vehicle to load feature of the car necessitates a push button start when you are in the vehicle are you using the vehicle to load or looking to drive - the car can’t do both at the same time. The push button allows the distinction of intended function to be made.
That’s a really good point. The electrified GV70 has the exact same power train but is simply a bit longer with a variation on the interior. Bizarrely though the eGV70 not being a ground up EV has a lot of its length in the bonnet so the bigger cabin and boot space isn’t really realised (boot space 503 L cf. 520 L of EV6 even though eGV70 is 4.715m cf. 4.680m of EV6) also the remnants of a transmission tunnel in the rear means 3 adults in the back is not practical as insufficient foot space. I await an updated GV70 - built on the definitive E-GMP platform then we’ll have all the benefits of the GV60 in a larger format and hopefully sporting a larger battery for better range. As it happens the GV60 is just the right length for my needs being a better fit for the small size of urban parking spaces in the UK and the diminutive drive of my apartment.
The facial recognition system in this Hyundai EV is a great option. I certainly didn’t think Hyundai would be the first to use this system in their vehicles. The big question is can the manufacturers increase the range in their EV’s and get a full charge in a short time. I don’t see Americans taking this technology seriously unless they can shorten the charge time. Long trips are next to impossible right now. Great video.
It’s amazing that more manufacturers aren’t putting heat pumps in the vehicles. I was in a Lucid showroom in the Oakbrook Illinois mall and while looking at the vehicle I asked if it had a heat pump and the sales people said what’s that? I had to explain it to everyone there who was supposed to be there to answer questions about this 140k electric car 😂😂😂😂 They we’re dumbfounded
Rivian, Ford, Lucid all went without putting in heat pumps in their big battery EVs. The engineering teams at these companies didn't just ignore the heat pump, they did the analysis and determined the efficiency gained was not worth the additional cost/complexity.
Hyundai’s Genesis line is just a straight rip off of Aston Martin. First the logo, then the original Genesis model, and now this is almost identical to the EV Aston Martin recently released. No shame.
That's what happens when a real car company is going all in to the EV segment. It's just show you how cheap tesla went with their expensive model Y. I really hope people will stop buying them. They not worth the money.
Why do you Americans NOT have the camera "mirrors" like we do here in Australia, or Europe or Asia ? These electronic mirrors are brilliant in low light or in wet weather , give the best blind spot coverage and of course minimises the wind noise due to its much smaller size. Why don't American models offer this great feature ? Is it because you still haven't embraced the metric system ?
I honestly thought you had either a problem with the drive train or it was the hum of the tyres on a road that a tracked vehicle had driven down. *I didn't realise it was from the cars different sounds it provides!* _That's one sound I'd never use if I got a GV60_ 8-\\...
I have heard the steering and handling stiffen up some in sport mode. You didn't mention any changes in driving impressions with different modes. Also I don't believe you can even buy this in all but 4 US States right now.
Other reviewers have checked that from what I understand it’s a 3D check of the face - a bit like the Xbox kinetic - but can recognise you if you are wearing sunglasses or a hat. And again as I understand because it uses infra red can work really well in low light.
Seems like if you had the choice between this and the Lyriq AWD the Lyriq is a better value with a lot more range, cheaper price and I would argue a more modern interior.
Better than any Teslas. The Exterior is slick and modern slightly ressemble the Porshe. Who started produce this wierd door handles - this is the only one drobeck in the exterior. The interior is also good but two screens on the desh is one step back to the chinese rivals they should put three screens on the desh. The transmission selector is magnificent and looks like peace of art - good job. The back seats are spacious and way better than in Mazda hatchback. But the total range is disappointing. My verdict is skip this model because of the low range and take the next model with 350 miles in a few years.
Why would I need more range? The fast charging is more important if I travel and when I am not taking that rare long trip 230 is fine. I think lugging around and paying for a bigger battery is just bad math.
@@gregkramer5588 For this sum of money I would take Ford F-150 EV Lightning with extended range. You are right for the fast charging but extended range is an absolute advantage if we talk about cars. And 350 miles range is generaly accepted range for the gas cars - it is the common practise. No need to invent the bicycle. If you accept the limited range in a car it is your choice but in my humble opinion it is simply unwise.
@@yaroslavgorislabe3551 For each his own for sure. The Lighting would be good for many. Not me. Of course this choice is moot since the Ford is sold out until 2024. It would not fit in my garage and the size would be a huge pain for me.
Curious how many miles of range is lost when the ‘boost’ button is used each time? Do you lose 20,30,50 miles each time. This will give us an idea of whether we will enjoy it a lot or have to conserve or run the risk of super range anxiety.
Only problem I can see with it is the current automotive trend of NO sidewall protection for the wheels. The industry really needs to get away from this bad decision
Agree. It is just too bad they didn’t match the size of the Model Y. The extra cargo space and interior room would have been nice. Genesis can’t touch the Tesla infotainment system though.
@@bbbt8090 Teslas don’t come loaded - only option is Full Self Driving… and no one doubts Tesla interior is not luxury but it is overblown because it really isn’t bad even in the $50-$70k price range. Your Acura MDX has old tech and should’ve been a $30-$40k car to begin with since it’s just a glorified Honda Pilot.
A lot of journalist switch ESC off when doing these 0-60 tests. But for cars with physically disconnect front and rear motors it is needed to ensure proper power delivery. Sadly it makes the car look untamed. Used with ESC on I’m sure the acceleration is still mighty impressive but more harnessed as intended for safe and controllable driving.
In the video it is stated the color is a pearly white, but according to the website, the whites are Atlas White, Uyuni White or Matterhorn White and the only ones of those with the Torrent navy color interior are the Uyuni and Matterhorn. But I can't tell the difference except the Matterhorn one is almost 3 times in color price.
The Alta White is a solid white and free, the Uyuni White is a metallic white and has an added cost; and the Matterhorn White is a Matte white and has a hefty premium and as with most Matte Paints takes some looking after.
In the UK from 2030 no new ICE vehicles will be allowed to go on sale. And new hybrids banned from sale from 2035. Similar story in other European countries. Used Hybrids and ICE can continue to be sold in the UK from those dates but I suspect within 10 years unless it’s a vintage car or running on synthetic fuel they’ll be banned too.
I think I would pass on this one and wait for the Ionic 6 for the greater efficiency and sleeker styling. Alternately, for about the same price I could buy a BMW I4 M50.
You compared this car to Cadillac but are you aware that the advanced Driving tech (Lane changes, lane Centering, etc.) on the GM are by subscription only AFTER 3 years of ownership? This one seems to offer their tech for the Life of the car. I like your reviews, Keep them coming!
I like that’s it’s fun to drive & quirky design. Seems like a futuristic mini interior but For the price & the disappointing backseat I’d look at the competition. Personally a Mach E or BMW i4
The lack of wireless Apple Car Play and Android Auto is a logistics issue - the hardware and firmware is already in the car to do it. Indeed if you go into engineering mode you can see the wireless firmware reference number. An OTA update would be able to introduce the functionality when Hyundai settle whatever issue they have with Apple and Google.
Excellent review. It is a great SUV, luxurious and with a complete luxury package and amenities that cannot be found on other cars. I was convinced with the Genesis GV60 however, what turned me off is the range of 240 miles that I find too short. That means I will keep on charging most of the time when I do road trips. If the range of the GV 60 was somewhere around 300miles it is worth considering. Have you tested the GV60 with passengers? The extra weight will definitely affect the range.
As far as range goes the Hyundai group has been very conservative with their range numbers. The Ioniq 5 and EV6 got way better range than the epa numbers which are ESTIMATES. Either way you get a few free years of charging in the gv60🤷♀️. Rather have that than $6 gas
Great car! Interior is very well designed. This seems like a Volvo C40 competitor with the fastback design. I would love to see an XC40-like true SUV option for more cargo/dog space.
One of the best car reviews out. That's why I don't want to do this for a channel. He's got it. Keeps?...uh what about zinc. Biotin. Zero Parabens. Buy his product, I'd say yeah. I cant yet I would if it's honestly his use
Cute shoes, Sofyan. And yes, this white color does this car more justice than that ugly highlighter color it premiered with. I kinda like this compared to its other EV siblings.
I have the G70 3.3t. this one does not make the icing on the cake. i'm dying to get the i4 M50... or wait to see if the G70 will be electrified. I understand those who think likewise - new electric car designs are hit or miss. The Germans have all missed - only GM is on the roll to win.
They took away the streams on the hood from the Genesis logo. A loss of styling in my book. Of course, love the glass roof! I like the two dual screens. You know where the features are (kind of like two boxes: just learn which box things are in). "Star Trek" Crystal Shifter! "Engage!" Much prefer a glass roof that opens. I'm not interested in an EV at this point. Batteries will get MUCH better soon. The Range it will travel on a charge is also a deal breaker. This is still the infancy of the EVs. As always, Most Excellent Review!
