The 2024 Acura Integra Type S is Coming and Confuses Us All

Compared to recent car reveals such as the Nissan Z, Toyota GR86, and many more - the Acura Integra's four door approach didn't seem to capture the enthusiast community's heart. Craving a true sequel to the DC2 was a dream that was now 100% fantasy. However the new Acura Integra Type S might show some promise taking lessons from it's brother the Honda Civic Type R..infact almost everything. So is the Type S what we are all looking for as car enthusiasts? Let's talk about it.

The way things are going, a base model integra is going to be $50k MSRP in a few years. The ability to buy a new car is steadily moving out of reach for the vast majority of people. You should do a video on that. How we got here, where things are going etc.

It’s why I’m moving to the Netherlands. Watch a channel called “Not Just Bikes”. The Bicycle infrastructure is made over there so that you basically never have to own a car again. Why would I have to own an overly complex double digit cost mechanical machine that can kill when put in the wrong hands AND be the ONLY way to get from one place to another for ANYTHING. The way North America’s infrastructure is spaced out, you don’t have the “freedom” of being able to choose an alternate form of transportation. It sucks. With car prices on the rise and reliability on the decline, auto manufacturers are taking control of your life thanks to lobbying. I’m moving to the Netherlands, ranked not only for having the freest and happiest children in the world thanks to bicycle infrastructure, but also being the best place to commute by car according to Waze. I don’t care about the taxes, it’s absolutely worth it to live in a country allowing to commute by bicycle with virtually no problem. Way safer than cars and much healthier for everyone. Why do you think the Netherlands has more bicycles than people, statistically?

It seems to me that corporations want to take control of our travel. They want to track everything so they can figure out how to sell us stuff better. Know where we are at all times so they can do more targeted advertising. "He riding past a target run the target ad!" In 1998 I was going to buy an Integra GS-R. I was stretching to about $21,500. The Acura dealer wasn't open yet so I drove around and ended up staring at a new 1997 Nissan 240SX (yes, last year's model). The 240 had an MSRP of $24,000 and I never considered it because 20 grand was too much. This one was on sale for $17,995. Sold!

Easy to assume it's not the same if you haven't driven it! The high revving was required because their tiny engines which require high rpm to make power, that was part of the fun yes but everything now has a turbo for fuel economy and bigger power, so it doesn't need a huge redline to achieve big power. It was the Supra, GTR, RX7, GT, GSX, 200, 240, 300, etc. Unless you are a super Acura/Honda enthusiast no one cared about an Integra. And even then most were sold as slow automatics. It’s the same argument w/ Dodge when it came to the Charger. Ppl got over it eventually. It’s exactly what the new Integra is. A diff body Civic. In this case way improved as far as interior, luxury, etc. but same engine. Old Integras are beaters unless modified & the rare Type are of old. David is right that no one wants coupes anymore (I do) but oh well. The price of the type s puts it into civic type R territory tho maybe even more. As both a consumer and enthusiast of 90s Hondas, I can appreciate this car for what it is. Acura is giving us a FWD liftback with decent power, a touch of extra refinement, and its signature engagement/fun factor. The latter being something that other manufacturers have improved on their own platforms over the years but can't quite replicate - especially when it comes to the gearbox. No, I'm not onboard with them renewing the Integra moniker. But giving this the Type S treatment is a step in the right direction. Adding extra bits like heated seats, leather/alecantra trim, a tad more compliant damping/bolstering, an optional sunroof, etc, all while retaining the 6MT... this car just might find its niche between the base Integra and CTR. Put me in the "wait and see" category... EDIT: I don't think Honda will ever go AWD with the Civic/Integra chassis. If the do go AWD, I suspect it will happen when they transition to hybrid-electric.

I think almost all enthusiasts are missing the entire point. The original integra wasn't an enthusiast car. It was a slow, fancy, rebadged civic. It came as a 4 door (and coupe) because the civic had both. Then years later they saw kids were hot rodding them so they decided to make the Type R. The new integra is just a rebadged fancy civic. Exactly like the first one was. They literally just recreated the original experience only this time they are tossing us the "fast" version almost immediately. The only people pissed about the new integra have tunnel vision and only think ITR when they think of "integra".

10:30 The engineering wouldn't actually be that hard since they've already done most of the work for other cars in their lineup. Acura already has their SH-AWD system with rear wheel torque vectoring. Yes, it was designed for automatic transmissions mated to their V6 engine, but they already partially solved this with the K23 from the RDX. That engine has a different block casting that is designed to match the bolt patterns on the V6 so that it can mate up to the same SH-AWD automatic transmission that other Acura products are using. Acura also released a manual SH-AWD transmission for a couple of years in the TL, so a manual that was designed for SH-AWD already exists and just needs to be put back into production. Therefore, to make a 4 cylinder AWD Integra with both automatic and manual transmission options, pretty much all Honda/Acura would have to do is design the engine and transmission mounts to fit the K23 engine and SH-AWD transmissions, then make room in the floor pan for the drive shaft and rear axle. Maybe give the engine more modern heads like the ones from the Civic Type-R, but tune the engine for more low end torque and midrange power for better street drivability instead of the more race track oriented tuning in the Civic Type-R. This would be relatively simple and inexpensive from an R&D perspective since most of the components already exist in the Honda/Acura parts bin, they would just need to bring them together. Unfortunately, I don't think anyone at Acura cares enough about enthusiasts to do this.

My point is, there's no halo car, no dedicated sports chassis and no "sport plus" (Civic Si notwithstanding, and even then. . . ) in Honda's lineup despite having all the pieces necessary to make one. The lineup just seems boring and uninspiring is all. And with no real discernible difference between the FL5 and the new Integra, I'm really wondering if Honda thinks both will sell well. They already have SH-AWD in their repository, why didn't they use it on the Type S? Like I said, lots of missed opportunities that I think will haunt them in the not too distant future. Apologies for the long post

@TheForresterOD the problem is these days most brand's halo car is gonna be an EV as they're the future. Unfortunately Honda has stepped away from the enthuast market the past few years with really only the civic as an option for someone who wants a sporty car or even a manual. It's disappointing but they know where there bread is buttered and that's crossovers, suvs and base model civic. It's a shame but this is unfortunately the direction the industry is going and Honda seems more interesting in bulk selling dull cars while offering very little to enthusiasts. My guess as to why no awd is offered is because they don't have awd on the civic platform already which would raise costs and likely the MSRP as well. Not to mention make the car heavier.

I like how enthusiasts is already bashing this car even tho its not released yet. An Integra has always been an upscaled Civic. You are getting a CTR in a tuxedo package on the Integra Type S. Just because you dont like it does not mean it sucks.

I think we need to give constructive criticism/ feedback and move on. At the end of the day these cars are being phased out. Pretty soon manuals will be even more rare if not gone, and we’ll be begging for them back. Appreciate what we have and hope for the best.

People hate on the new Acura Integra for no reason. And say Audicity B.S. that "Íntegras was two door only", when there were literally four door Íntegras (which was there before the two door Íntegras).
