I agree. I think the front looked really generic on the pre-refresh G70. I really love the slightly outrageous grill on the new one, especially with no front plate on it. Prefer the refresh headlights also. The only thing I don't care for is the black plastic diffuser out back. I don't think it looks especially premium. But overall, I'm happy with the styling. One commenter said the pre-refresh looks like some generic sedan out of Grand Theft Auto.
I think the reason the new Genesis design language on this vehicle looks a bit "off" because it wasn't designed from the ground up with the new language. The side/main body is still the old design lines, so it doesn't look as cohesive as the other models.
I TRULY miss my leased 2019 Genesis G70 V6 RWD. It was an awesome vehicle which did NOT need AWD and I feel the styling on the earlier models is much better than the 2022 refresh.
I think the current design is spot on. It’s unique and modern without looking like it’s trying too hard or looking weird for the sake of attempting to be different. It’s distinctively genesis and communicates a familial design language. This car had few downsides tbh, i had one for teo weeks and i loved it! If they give it a full digital instrument cluster it would be 100%, but im expecting big upgrades for the next generation, They typically listen to what buyers want.
It's strange the US doesn't get the full digital cluster. Other markets have had it since 2018. Also, you can see in the video, the V6 had the napa leather package. That pattern on the 2.5T was the one used for the regular leather. Just LOVE this car! Still a good value and a great driving car!
From 2019-2021, you could get a loaded base engine model, only things missing were the Brembo brakes and adaptive suspension (and power trunk for 20-21 models). Price was also fantastic, just above $40K fully loaded, but now $50K and under equipped, and even on the V6 no more heated rear seats and adaptive headlights, value isn’t what it used to be. I would have to agree, the 2019-21 models looked better on the outside too, though I can appreciate the full LED exterior lights.
Still no full digital display (old analog gauges were better than this new half one) and now it’s $50,000 for a 4 cylinder and nearly $60,000 usd for a 3.3. That is insane! The entire point of genesis was value and now they don’t offer that anymore. I’d get a BMW for that price.
@@MikeJohnson-ej4ocI’d usually say the same thing but it’s a little different in this case. First of all, the non digital dash already looks crappy. Secondly, the digital display has been available in Korea since, idk, before the refresh.
@@MikeJohnson-ej4oc the gauges in the first gen were perfect. The ones in the new one are hideous and that’s all you can get. I would even take Hyundais display copy and pasted in there over this one.
Loaded 2024 G70 3.3T AWD with white exterior and black interior is $57,700 including destination. Loaded 2024 M340i AWD with white exterior and black interior is $70,620 including destination. Base model 2024 M340i RWD with NO options is $58,595 with destination. Still a great deal. Comes with the long warranty and will be much less expensive to own long term
For my money. I’d take this. The m340i is off the table because it’s rwd for that price. You’ll get no where in the winter with that. And 13g more for the awd bmw is a no because I wouldn’t have 13g more. Lol
If they aren’t including the fully digital 3d dash from the other models then it’s way less of a value than it used to be. Total cop out move by Genesis.
Spot on review. Bought a 24 2.5T sport prestige in Makalu grey - black seat & red stitching. Stg wheel just perfect, yes flat bottom would be nice. Feels solid and well built. Some nice touches like the passenger seat control in easy reach of the driver. So glad Genesis still making sport sedans. Stinger would have been my first choice if still around last month. One perk. Comes with concierge service - they pick up the car at your home/work and leave a loaner. Then afterwards return the car and pick up the loaner. Yes the back seat tight, so is the Lexus IS. This could have been a sharp coupe if Genesis ever made one. I prefer coupes as it’s just me & the misses. Oh and bought a AAwireless from Amazon which I stuck (dbl sided tape) off on the side and recommend.
I very slightly prefer the new generation over the pre-refresh. Both look awesome, but I'm a sucker for the the split headlight design and love that they took the license place holder off the the trunk area and put it lower near the bumper.
@@bigden2755 Right but you can't get RWD on any model as far as I'm aware plus the base trim there is significantly better equipped than the one in the USDM.
@@layne4376All Genesis CPO vehicles are backed by Hyundai Motor America and include a 6-year / 75,000-mile extended CPO Limited Warranty and a 10-year / 100,000-mile CPO Powertrain Limited Warranty. That's why he said CPO not just a used Genesis.
@layne4376 I don't know about you but, my G70 3.3t sports prestige has a 10year/100k miles warranty and on top of that, I paid for an extended warranty 4years/60k miles. That gives me 14 years, 160k miles coverage to everything.
@layne4376 my sister bought her 2017 elantra brand new for 13k, msrp was 19k. She got all kinds of rebates plus a nice dealer discount. 6 years later and her car has never needed ANYTHING.
For some reason unknown to me, the design language for Genesis is off on the front end of this model. Just my opinion. I mean, its okay, but visually it just doesn't seem settled. I don't know what it is...
It's because it's not an all new model but rather a refresh using the newer design language on the front/rear while the side profile is still the old design language. It's incongruent.
They've been selling Genesis cars since 2008, not 2017. Hyundai didn't make it a "stand alone" brand until 2017 because of the recession that was going on in the late 2000's. The Genesis coupe, sedan and a crossover (Veracruz) were very good at launch.
I own a 2019 Genesis G70 3.3T which I purchased April 2019. Currently over 127k. Other than replacing two sets of tires and replace rear brakes, no issues. I don't Baby My Baby! One thing that I find funny, are people and their wish list. I wish this car had this, I wish it had that! Most wish list people are not even in the market to purchase a new vehicle 😂😂😂
didn’t he say they don’t have a claimed 0-60 for this one yet? They claim a 5.9 second 0-60 in the 2.0T so maybe he just didn’t update it since they didn’t claim one yet
@@chrisa9857 My 2.0t is right around the 6 second mark but i’m near sea level and he’s at altitude in this vid. Also with the engineering of these cars you can’t spoil up boost before launch like you can in audi’s or bmw’s. You can rev but there’s no boost until a second after you hit the pedal. If they fixed that it would quickly drop off a couple tenth of seconds off the 0-60 times
I can hardly tell of how you can actually wear a helmet in a race track while driving the 2.5T Genesis G70. Much improvement of your driving skills is very unique and this car is about to become an Audi TT. Awesome review Sofyan! You deserve an award 🥇
I get the feeling that Genesis invests substantially more into the G80 than the G70. Which, duh, it’s a more expensive vehicle - but some of the cost cutting (or outdatedness) of this car is a bit surprising.
I’m probably in the minority that think this is the best looking of all of the Genesis vehicles. The curves of the design work better than the sharper lines on the other models. Also a bit disappointed that Genesis didn’t also swap the 3.3T V6 for the 3.5T V6
Two months ago I bought a 24' CT4 Cadillac Sport with the Onyx Package. It came with 19' wheels blue Brembo brake calipers and run flat tires. One would have to look twice to distinguish it from a Blackwing.
The 10.25" display in the middle is fine it got wireless CarPlay & Android Auto for 2024. It also would've helped if it got a full 12.3" digital gauge cluster for 2024 to replace the asymmetrical half analog & half digital gauge cluster which does have the Blind Spot View Monitor on the right side of the cluster when you have the 360° camera system
I’ve always liked these I like the pre face lift version better I’m not to crazy about the headlights a full digital display would be nice but I think there kinda getting out of hand with these big ass screens just stuck on the dash but that’s what all the carmakers are doing
I have a 2021 Genesis G70 Sport AWD. Fully loaded it was 51. Coming to the end of the lease in the coming months and debating if I go for a 2024 G70, or swap for the BMW M240i. I have 30k on my Genesis and it's been pretty decent. Only issues is the dark trim has a weird buildup on it from car washes and looks bad. I agree I like the exterior of the predesign as well, but the screen really dates the interior.
The engine is a bit underwhelming. 300hp/311lb-ft 0-60 5.9s. Competes directly with Cadillac CT4-V (non Blackwing) on price which gives you 325hp/380lb-ft 0-60 4.8s. But if you don't care about that, the Genesis does have a nicer interior.
Competitive at mid-40k for the 4 popper, and $50k-ish for the 6 cylinder, but in truth there are better options at actual pricing. 100% right about the older look being much better than this “refresh.”
@porfiriato84 That's not even a 4 door. How you going to "c'mon" me and throw me a car that's not even in the same segment as the g70 lol. Mildly luxury? It has lexicon audio which only can be found in Rolls Royce and no other brands.
@@kuvyoghmoobamelica6883 what's the purpose of having 4 doors when you have the same amount of backseat space as the 230 😂 Either way I would say they are somewhat similar due to both being RWD. In the end the 230 is a better value than this slower G70. AND BMW's iDrive8 is loads better than what Genesis offers.
@porfiriato84 A base 230i (non m line) is $39,000 with the most basic stuff. Doesn't even come with brembo brakes. A fully optioned 230i is upwards $50,000.
I love my 23 3.3 t sport prestige its a fun car n i own corvettes a 24 x5 a 24 Rubicon 4xe and its fun its kinda a sleeper because no one really knows what it is until it takes off 😂
Not sure why they didn't do 12-inch display for odometer as an optional package. To me that's the deal breaker as our other Hyundai vehicle has full digital version, and this makes the driving experience not consistent across the family.
not everyone (and by everyone I mean easily 90% of your viewers) cares about sports features of the car. We want to hear more about the comfort levels while driving, wheel and tire noises while driving, wind noises, cabin noises, quietness levels.
Seriously, still no fully digital dash for the refresh in NA? That's unacceptable for a luxury car. Guess I'll keep my current Hyundai and wait for an Ioniq 6N or a fully electric G70.
3 series?? Lol who drives a 3 series unless it's an M line. M320i is garbage compared to their 2.5t g70. M340i isn't necessarily a bargain buy also, it's $60k for base and upwards $70k with full packages.
Same question I have. I test drove both. The TLX looks and feels bigger but versatile meaning very comfy and sporty. The g70 driving dynamics are a bit sportier than the TLX and comfy as well. It also now has more HP than the TLX if that matters to you. Dealership experience? I’ll go Acura/Honda all the way.
Does the 2.5t actually get the LSD? The new engine would be compelling if it did because @savagegeese showed the open diff rwd just spin the inside wheel. Neither the prior 2.0 G70 or 2.5 stinger got the LSD. Stunning design imho.
I think the exterior styling looks ok. Only issue I have with the twin headlight/twin tail light theme is how they plan on evolving this design language. There’s only so much you can do with the shape of two headlights stacked on top of each other. It’s almost as if they inadvertently trapped themselves to an inflexible design. Unless they just go typical Hyundai/Kia and make a completely different car for the next gen which has been their issue - no cohesive language and just random designs from one generation to the next.
This is discontinued car after this model year I think. Therefore there should be no hard plastic on the door. It should be velvet and the price should be 12k off to reflect its a lame duck. It’s a pretty car but i think its finished.
The shifter looks cheap and dated amd and are you kidding me about the dated odometer cluster!?!?! I can't believe they didn't go full digital when cars half the price are. That's like putting a 60 HZ display in a flagship cell phone
