This has to be one of my favorite long range videos I’ve ever seen! Excellent three views! My favorite part was the sound! Letting the sound run at the same time on all cameras was so interesting. You really see how much faster the bullet is compared to the sound. I was also surprised how loud the impacts were! Excellent shooting and filming!!!!!!
Well said. I'd never heard of this calibre until I saw a second hand Ruger Mk2 M77 on the shelf. Was so impressed I bought it and it's my go to weapon 13 years later. Deadly stuff
I'm a 270win fan from way back and is one of the best "do all calibers". My fondness for the 25-06 is that it's nearly the 270's equal but with less recoil. Thanks for the comment.
As far as I know,Kimber only offered a long action in an 8400 classic model for one year in a 25-06 caliber and I bought one. I really like mine. www.shootingtimes.com/editorial/longgun_reviews_8400l_081406/99292
It's tough without a spotter or geology that allows you to see your misses. That's a very accurate gun, and you've spent some time working up a load for it. Well done. Great video. Watching your hits, it looks like you're at or maybe under 1/2 MOA @ 950 yards. Dude, that is fantastic.
Thank you for the generous comments. After the shooting, I just grabbed the target and headed to town for a meeting. Wasn't until the next day I noticed the group. 6 shots under 4 inches. Yes I was pleased.
Took a friend antelope hunting in Montana. He used a friends 2506. Had a good buck a long way out. I wasn’t sure of the range sinc he was facing us I told him to hold right between the horns. At the shot buck reared up and fell over backwards. Was perfect heart shot. Nice fifteen inch buck. Drove to it. Odometer said three tenths of a mile. Nicely done!
Outstanding! Cooper makes a fine weapon. The funds for such a weapon is the hard part! As they say, " Buy once, cry once.", I suppose. I owned a Weatherby years ago in 25 - 06. It was a shooter. Love the caliber for distance on whitetail here. Doesn't destroy the grocery part of the game. I now use a Tikka .243 Winchester because of less recoil. Banged up from injuries. Another point is bullet selection for the 243 and I have a .308 Winchester for bigger farther things if needed. I load a 130gr. hovering at 3200 fps in the 308 that holds tight and hits like dynamite on critters. A cartridge with a lot of diversity in bullet's and weights. That you can find at the local grab shop (not many right now) is always a plus. As far as new calibers, I've always heard don't fix it if it ain't broke. Nice video! Keep'em coming!
@@ShedhornSports I've thought about it. I owned two with breaks, although years ago. They were so loud without hearing protection hunting I thought my ears would bleed. I think the old Boss system? I'm getting the can't remember as well, that comes after a lot of winters past.😂
I’m a big fan of the 25-06, killed many deer with it. I also have a custom 25-06 with a 1-7 twist barrel, Gunwerks action shooting Blackjack 131’s. It’s very impressive.
Sounds like a interesting rifle. I too am a 25 cal in general fan. Have taken several elk with the 25-06, one at at 468 yards. Always impressed with its performance. Thank you for the comment.
I own two 25s both Rem 700s my 1st i bought in the early 80s with a 26 inch barrel, many a groundhog lost its life in the 500 yrd range in corn fields of N.C.. Never lost a dear with either rifle. Great video.
i had a 25-06 once... not very long though... traded "even" for a 7mm Rem Mag that a guy didn't like because it kicked so hard... lol... ;-) best deal i ever made... (fyi... 7mm Rem Mag is not a gun for pussies)
I been interested in 25-06 for a few years. Haven't snagged one yet. There are some heavier bullets(131 grain) out now, and wish they would offer 1-8 or 1-7 twist rates in factory rifles to stabilize them. Be cool if Ruger would lead the way in their Ruger American or Savage with their Axis and revive the 25 cal.
I have the same scope on my 25-06 ruger m77 and love it, when I got it it was just a barrel I had to make everything else and send it to ruger to check the head space from my bolt. I have the varmint Reticle. I’m guessing you ammo got warm, is that why you put it under the table?
Believe me, I was as surprised as anyone by my shooting and actually didn't realize how well I did until the next day when i looked at the target. Thanks for the comment.
Nice to see a proper length barreled 25-06, 24 inches is the sweet spot. The mighty quarter bore hits the steel at 500 yards instantly after the report.
How heavy is the trigger pull on that cooper rifle? I thoroughly enjoyed that demonstration of .25-06. It was an eye opener for me. Allen you’re the best.😁thank you
Good shooting. A buddy and your video convinced me the 25-06 is my next purchase. By the way, at 15:07 on the 951 shot. A bird actually flies just under the bullet. Thank you for making this.
Outstanding. Despite the misses (Which were only just misses) every shot on target was virtually hole in hole. To do that at 950 yds is bloody good shooting. Very impressive. good job
Nice video! I've a Sauer 200 in 25-'06 that puts 100 grain Remington on a dime at 100 yards with a sporter-style barrel. Would love to see what it would do at your range.
Great shooting, great video. I've owned a 25-06 in a Weatherby for quite a few years. I absolutely love the cartridge. It's amazing how few people actually know about the cartridge let alone how few actually use it. It's ideal for deer, Antelope, and Coyote. I saw it described in a gun magazine years ago as "the cartridge from Hell" because of how fast it is and how devastating it is on the game you shoot with it.
6.5's are good juice but most sell the 25's short. 250 sav., 257 roberts, 25-06...even the 257 wby are all good stuff. Easy to shoot, low recoil, humane kills...whats not to like?
@@johndough4871 thanks Nathan. Yes in deed...the ole 250-3000. We're dating ourselves I fear. I have 2 ( sav 111 and ruger #1). Feel free to be jealous :-)
@@ShedhornSports 25-06 is and will be an excellent cartridge for up to deer sized game. For elk I personally prefer a heavier projectile with 6.5 being minimal.
Im a fan of more traditional calibres like this over Creedmoor. For Creedmoor is nothing more than sales hipe. .223, 6.5 x 55, 25-06, 270w, 30-06 covers most hunting needs
@@ShedhornSports Thank you for the info. My new 25-06 (25" Hart 1-9") is proving to be a challenge for me at least from the 100 yd group size aspect. Are you near the top of the load range with your powder? Thanks again and Good shooting.
Excellent video. 25-06 was my first rifle... Busting groundhogs at long range in the hills of east Tennessee. Many deer, hogs and range rounds later its still my favorite.
Looks like the 25-06 is going to be my first rifle as well. I'm left handed and my local shop has one left handed Savage 110 Apex Hunter XP in 25-06. Might as well pick it up.
Dang, that is awesome. I been drooling over a Cooper for a lot of years. I've always liked quarter bores too first rifle was an old Stevens 25-20; and been thinking a Cooper in 250-3000 AI or a 25 Souper would be pretty cool.
Lol, when I ordered my cooper in 2004, I almost went with 250 AI as I already had a 250 savage. Went with the 25-06 inpart, because they didn't offer a 257 wby at the time and 250 AI dies are $$$. I've been very happy with my decision. Thanks for the comment.
A 25.06 is a excellent long range rifle..i have a new Weatherby in 25.06..just wondering if there is a 105 gr partition bullet for 25.06..the 25.06 would also be a good sniper rifle
Exceedingly IMPRESSIVE. I've got my eye on a Sako M85 like NIB at my local FFL and it is LEFT hand which I prefer. It is a 25-06 which I've never had. He's asking $1800 for it. Problem is I also found a Sako M90 also with a wood stock in 6.5CM for $2000. I've read that the 90 "fixed" all that was wrong with the 85. What brass are you using for those handloads? That is a hold back for me on the 25-06. I can't find brass to handload. I've also considered buying that Sako and rebarreling it to 280AI. By the way, your multiple shots were all banging that upper left target edge and I watched with my mouth wide open, spellbound.
6.5 Creedmoor that everybody brags about it’s all in the marketing they blew that cartridge so far out of proportion it doesn’t shoot all that flat and a 6.5 has been around since the 1890s so where is the magic there isn’t any. I have owned 25.06 for years decades actually it’s hard to beat the cartridge that knocks on the back door of a 257 Weatherby Magnum
@@handle--729 what is interesting is just how fast the 25.06 crosses 500 yards even at 950 yards it’s still quick compared to other cartridges this is why I love it so
@@handle--729 It’s all in the marketing 6.5 bullet diameter has been around since 1890s the swedes used it now all of a sudden it’s A big deal I don’t know about you but I like straight flat shoot rifles and the 25 .06 is one of the best bullet coefficiency has no effect until Around 600 yards I don’t plan on shooting any more than 500 and most Of your high BC bullets don’t make good hunting bullets
I actually like the 6.5 CM. It does what it does without excessive recoil and relatively small amounts of powder. Is it the wonder child of sporting cartridges...no. That would be the 25-06 :-)
@@ShedhornSports not sure what your saying I like the 25.06 because I get magnum performance without the magnum cost and without the magnum recoil all so the 25.06 shoots flatter than most cartridges including the creedmore my sons friend has a creedmore in a ar10 platform it’s heavier than my laminated stock heavy barrel 25.06 m77 ruger mark ll
@@stanleyspurgeon5339 I agree with you, the 25-06 gives mag. type performance without magnum recoil. But I still like the various 6.5 offerings...just like the 25-06 better.
Ennis, Montana... of all the horrible places to live. It's almost as bad as Star Valley, Wyoming or Jackson Hole. Of course I'm in the slum town of Cody, Wyoming but I get around... been through Ennis a number of times and can't help but loving the place... I mean, despite it being horrible and all. I'm curious as to what bullet you were using with your hand loads in this video. I've been thinking about .25-06 but I want to shoot the heavy bullets, particularly the new 134gr Hornady ELD Match. The .25-06 standard twist rate is much too slow for that though as an absolute minimum recommended rate is 1-8 with 1-7 preferred. The throat length might be an issue as well. .25-06 is a great cartridge and a real long range contender with that 134gr ELD Match but I'd hate to have to buy a rifle only to turn around and rebarrel it to get what I want. A custom rifle is a boat load of money and even a precision action to build my own custom is quite spendy. There's got to be a way without robbing a bank.
Shot 2 at 950 was also just high-left. You can see the vapor trail and a slight dirt impact if you know where it is going. I’m sure you probably saw it when you got home and edited. Good shooting. I also love the 25-06 for whitetail sized game.
I am going to set up a "dedicated antelope rifle", I have a few guns In the safe to choose from, but, I am leaning towards either my ruger m77 in 25-06 or my browning a bolt in 270 wsm. (I also have the sako 243, winchister model 70 in 300 wsm, 7mm 30-06 300 win mag, 300 ultra mag, or 375 Ultra Mag. (Probably a few others, but, I think the 25-06 or 270 wsm would work best). 25-06 going to work on antelope out at 700 yards???
I own a 25-06 I can’t think of any other caliber that does it all it has killed several deer and coyotes sense purchased in 1976 I hand load Serra 117gr by my son killed a deer at just over 300yds I have killed coyotes crossing the half section fence that’s around 500yds using 90gr bullets with 760 ball powder. Using factory loads use 117gr bulistic tip.
You’ve got to be related to the guy on The Cinnabar channel. Are you his dad, brother, uncle , cousin. So many similarities, voice ,mannerisms, even the same countryside.
Amazing shooting. I own a lot of other calibers but the .25 will always be my favorite. I own two 25-06 and one 257 wby. I am wanting to add another 25-06 to the stable in a tikka t3x but I worry about the 22” barrel length making it suffer. What are your thoughts and what are your thoughts on the 257 wby? I’m a deer hunter and practice often at 400 yards. Wish I had the room to stretch my legs as far as you do. Great shooting a beautiful rifle.
Thank you for the comments and i understand your concern with Tikka's 22" tube. First off, I love Tikka rifles and have taken mule deer at 400 yards with a 22" 25-06 so my thought is, if the accuracy is there I can adjust my load for best performance (highest velocity) in the shorter barrel. The performance of the 257 WBY is mind bending. The one gun hunter is well equipped if thats what he/she has. I think bullet selection is more critical with the Wby because of the velocity. Best of luck in your hunting.
@@ShedhornSports I am also a 25 guy. I have a 250 Savage model 99 I got as my first rifle at 7yrs old in 1971. Still got it ! I favor my 257wby Vanguard stoked with 100gr Barnes TTSX bullets. It's an incredibly flat shooter to 500yds. The energy suffers after that so that's what I limit my shots on game to. I've taken many deer and elk with both rifles and never thought I needed bigger. Great informative video an maybe sometime I'll pick up a 25 06.
I’ve got a 257Bee as well but haven’t found a load yet that it shoots well. The only thing that’s close is the 100gr ttsx Barnes where I can get the bullet out near the lands. And then it’s 1.5MOA. Would love to long distance hunt with it but the groups are too big.
@@artfranz2273 Sorry to hear that. I have had pretty good luck with a few bullets including the Barnes bullets but the best results have been with the Speer SPBT in 100 Gr and the Hornady ELDX 110 gr. I use IMR 4831 with the Speer bullets and Reloder 22 with the ELDX. With 66.7 grains of RL22 behind the ELDX I am getting .743 inch group at 100 yards. Good luck with your 257 Weatherby. Once you find what she likes .... it’s a laser beam!
Art, you may try sierra bullets if you haven't already. They are fairly long throat tolerant and most rifles shoot them well. I would try the 117 gr. or 120's. Their bc is pretty sucky but with the velocity achievable in the wby, its not a huge hindrance. Good luck.
One of my favorite caliber to work with I killed a elk with mine it’s model 70 Winchester I bought brand new back in the 90’s I just bought a Remington 700 at a pawn shop it’s older rifle before Remington was bought out so I’m looking forward to shooting it both are wood stocked and the model 70 I bedded the action and free floated the barrel
WELL Allen that was great shooting , but your mike needs a foam sprung cover the wind noise is bad , & would probably cut down on the bang also , AND thanks for the vid & the schooling
Funny story...I was actually wearing a lav mike with a wind screen but the sound was so flat (and put most people to sleep as it is) I decided not to use that audio track. Thanks for the comment.
i had a 2506 for lotsa lotsa years . was responsible for alot of wonderful deer and elk and moose venison in the freezer .what a beautiful caliber . most people have no idea of the killing power of the 25 .. theres something special about how it knocks em down . usually always one and done . no chasing a wounded animal . only 25 cal owners will know this !!
@@ShedhornSports no i think its the caliber . everybody i know who owns one says theres something majical about the 25 . my favorite bullet was a nosler 100 grain solid . was very accurate and a excellent hunting bullet . but for unknown reasons nosler quit making it . they replaced it with a ballistic tip that just was too soft of jacket and exploded to pieces unlike the solid . my longest kill was a 600 yard heart shot on a high country mule deer . didnt take a step and blew his heart in half . cant say enough ...loved that gun . it was a older ruger which had a semi mauser action . glass bed with a 24 inch heavy barrel . it was a beauty . i was never a fan of the 115 grain or 120 grain . the 25 ruled with 100 grain bullets . sad part is not many good bullets in the 100 grain anymore . seems like manufactures only make the heavier and for the 25 thats a bummer for me anyways . happy shootin !!!
25.06 back in the 80's was the smallest caliber you could hunt Elk with in Colorado. My friend killed a bull at 400+ yds. If we were shooting at each other,,,,,,, bet on him! I used a 30.06 and I wasn't as accurate as he was!
I used a rem. 721 in 30-06 for a while. Hated that gun and caliber. If my first gun would have been a 25-06, I think I my young hunting career would have been more successful. Thanks for the comment.
@@ShedhornSports If I was buying a new gun today (I still have the 06) I'd buy the 25.06 in a Ruger. Put a high quality scope on it and bam,,,, you've hit your target.
Very nice. Did you make the shooting bench and target rig? I make my own bullets, there is very little difference between .257 and .264. It wasnt that long ago when a 6.5/284 was the king of the 1000 yard matches. A 25-06 is right there with it in many aspects. I can see the wind mirage via camera with your long shots, the wind explains your initial misses. Liked and subscribed.
I have a sakio on 25-06 you can do that all day long with. My first 25-06 was a BDL Remington that i gave to my brother and it is the same way. But then I have a custom built 220 swift that will perform with them.
That my friend is impressive 👏 great shooting that group looked great at 1000 yards or even a whole lot less, what was the holdover and wind drift compensation at that distance and wind speed.
Sorry to say, not sure if or when any videos will follow or what they will be. The channel has a new director so we'll both have to wait and see. Thank you for your comment and watching our video.
I have one in a-bolt ii stainless stalker with boss, over 25 years and love it more than ever. I've let 2 or 3 buddies shoot deer with it and nobody believes how flat it shoots and how fast it drops them. I want to cry when I look back at some ive sold.😭
It was smacking the steel pretty good but at that range, the 25-06 is down to 1725 fps and 762ft-lbs. Not bad but I would like to have a bit more of both. Thanks for the comment.
Hummm, good question. The long version would take a while to explain. The short answer is I think the 270win is a better alternative... depending on ones purpose.
I have always loved the 25.06 killed many deer antelope elk and coyotes with it, also have a 257 weatherby in a Remington 700 action set in a H.S. Precision stock all set up and ready to go for wolves. Worked this rifle and loads up special just for wolf hunting.
** please be aware that this load was safe in my rifle but may not be in any others.** Berger 115 gr. VLD, Reloader 22 54.5 gr. CCI 200 primer, ww brass, coal .004 off lands.
What's the .25-06 24" nitride barrel life for 3500-3700fps(fast twist, 70-85gr, for light varmint loads, but heavier than in .22-250)? What's the reputation of .25-06 with regards to barrel erosion(especially on the throat) as opposed to 264 Win. Mag, which many call the "barrel burner".
Sorry Trevor for the delay in answering. I'm not sure I can answer your questions adequately. Throat erosion is a problem in any high capacity, high pressure cartridge. I would venture to say that the 25-06 barrel life is more like a 7 rem mag than a 264 win mag. Barrel treatments can help improve that a little. Shooting light for caliber bullets is an intriguing thought. You could use faster burning powders which wouldn't produce as much erosion? but your barrel will warm up faster at the velocity you are indicating, which could increase erosion if not allowed to cool between shots. So really, I'm not sure I've addressed your question adequately at all.
Love this caliber. My first Ruger Mark II, along with my 722 Rem. In .222, my Marlin .30.30 and my Savage 270 WSM., I need no more rifles. Except my M1.
Right now I'm runnin a stainless mossberg 4x4 in 25-06 and 117gr hornady stt and love it for texas whitetail. I'm only shootin 250-300 yards but I'd like to get on some west texas hunts where I can see what all it has to offer distance wise. I appreciate the video, thats some damn good shootin especially without a spotter
Well it could be. I've been using this load since 2005. I calulated SD back then. Many bullets and pounds of powder later, things may have changed (the powder) and SD may be lower than it used to be. So you maybe correct...or I got terribly lucky. Thanks for the comment.
This guy is great, know’s his shit. Love this video. Meticulously loads every cartridge for sure. Know’s the speed at every distance......all of it. That’s the only way you make shots like this with this caliber. I have done, not quite that far but people think I’m bullshitting.
I own a Tika in 25-06. It is a stone killer. Many of my kids and friends killed their first deer with that gun. According to the Federal ballistics calculator, there is 22.5 feet of drop at 950 yards. That is some might fine shooting.
