I was diagnosed with hypertension a couple years ago and put on Losartan. After making a few corrective lifestyle changes, I was able to stop taking it. First, I started mixing my own one-third strength coffee. It sounds horrifying but it works. Second, I significantly reduced my sodium intake to less than the DV% (2300mg/day). Third, I learned how to manage body tension. Twice a day I meditate in my chair and release tension mostly accumulated in my jaw, shoulders and upper back. The hypertension slowly started to subside. Footnote: if you buy a BP monitor, get an arm sleeve. The wrist sleeves are horribly inaccurate. Good luck and good health.
Salt makes no difference if you have good kidneys. Salting your meal is only capable of raising BP by 2 points max, as the blood will not uptake more than that until the kidneys have shed it. So enjoy salting your meal. Obviously don't go mad. But excess salt will stay in the gut you don't want to pickle your gut bacteria, but the basic advice we all believed for years is BS.
Just as long as he really keeps track of it. My aunt thought she didn’t need it either but one day she had a massive stroke and she did’t Make it it’s a silent killer.
My sister got drop out of her meds too. They finally had to put her on again her son’s are Dr.s they told her that was a better option for her. They don’t want nothing happing to their mother.
I have been taking meds since I was in my 27 aloe dose at first and the later with age it was just one more pill but later in life they drop my other pill and it’s been good. I’m in my late 80’s and still feel good I just don’t want to real have a really big stroke. I had a mini stroke but thank God I was in BP meds I have been fine for 14 years. So please do what’s best for your body. Don’t think that you will never have to take It the machine ususally breaks down like a car.
Doctors need to emphasize the weird coughing side effect that is possible with Lisinopril. Too many people get the symptom, don't realize it's from the drug and end up coughing for years from it.
After having bad reactions to 4 different BP medications, I am now on Coreg- 6.25 mg twice a day for 2 years w no side effects. It's also important to exercise, reduce sodium in your diet and drink adequate amt of water. You can't rely on the meds alone. After reading many comments it's obvious that there are so many medications out there and they affect everyone differently.
I’ve had chronic HBP for some time but since I started taking 10mg amlodipine for the past 3 years my bp has been consistently under control with zero side effects. I use my bp monitor to monitor regularly. I’m 71 years old and this medication works beautifully.
Well, I'm taking 2 out of 3 of those listed medicines. The 3rd was Losartan. But now, my doctor has switched me to a new Rx that has all 3 in one pill. I've also reduced the dosage of the amlopidine, which has stopped my ankles from swelling up.
A number of years ago we were told not drinking enough water causes high blood pressure they found this out in Germany I had high blood pressure 184 over 74 so I started to drink the right amount of water for my body I did this for 3 months and dropped my blood pressure down to 130 over 70 so a person should try this before getting on to drugs with all their side EFFECTS good luck eh
Yes. When the amount of water drops, the blood thickens. When the blood thickens, it is harder for the blood to pump and move thorough the body. Same thing happens in diabetics. Dehydration will make their blood become thicker than V8 or maple syrup.
Years ago I was prescribed Lesinopril for hypertension, but after taking it daily for several years, I began to have severe coughing attacks, almost continually. Told my doctor about that and he changed my med to Omlasartin, and the coughing went away, other than my normal allergy related coughing. Much happier about the situation now!
Lisinopril was developed by chemically copying the venom that snakes in South America use to kill their prey. The venom causes low BP but you cough until you cannot breathe too.
Lisinopril almost killed me. After on it for almost a year, I started coughing all the time.. Then if I ate food, usually bread, it caused violent coughing, where I couldn't catch my breath. It immediately went away when I stopped it. I switched to hydrochlorothazide and Amlodipine, and my numbers are perfect, with no side effects.
I’ve been taking Losartin but lately my BP had been too low(IMO).It’s been 109/70,sometimes as low as 100. I have lost some weight so my doctor said to start cutting the pills in half. I have cut out all sodas.
I can not do that much ginger but I will put in all the rest. It is work it for me to keep trying. I love Hibiscus tea but I put in an organic Honey. thank you so much ! I dislike the cough for this pill and want to get OFF of as many medications as I can!
My blood pressure was 155 to forgot the lower end. I refused to take prescription medication. A fiend recommended when ever possible together with food a knife top of CAYENNE PEPPER. My blood pressure was taken 3 month later again. I am now down to 125 to 95
I was initially put on Lisinopril and developed the coughing side affect. I was then switched to a combination pill (Losartan / HCTZ) which I've been doing well with and so far have not had any side effects from. I've been taking the combo pill for about 9 years.
What amount in mg's is your dose for the losarton ? As my doctor did the same thing. I'm on 50 mg of losarton now after starting out at 25 mg. But I was initially started out with 25 mg of Lisinopril, then after some time started developing a cough.
@@mavisjones4750 my doctor just switched me to Valsartan. I was on lisinopril sometime ago and started suffering from severe headaches and dizziness from it after taking it for about a year.
I have low blood pressure and a low heart rate 72/33 and a 32 HR. I take meds to raise, and once tried Mestinon? and it made me lose my mind. be careful with meds.
I have been having high blood pressure for a couple of days I use to take lincinpril but it made me cough a lot so I am taking lorarsortan so I went and seen the doctor today and she is prescribed another medicine 💊
I have had high blood pressure for a number of years. In my early years of high blood pressure one of the medications that I was taking was hydrochlorothiazide. For a number of years I had no problem with this medication. Then in January 2016 I came down with acute pancreatitis and spent a week in the hospital first with acute pancreatitis then pneumonia. Since I do not drink any alcoholic beverages the doctor suspected that the hydrochlorothiazide triggered my acute pancreatitis and changed my blood pressure medication. I am now listed as allergic to hydrochlorothiazide. Since discontinuing hydrochlorothiazide I have had no more episodes of acute pancreatitis. In this video they mention one of the severe side effects of hydrochlorothiazide as inflammation of the pancreas. I know from experience that the acute pancreatitis was the single most serious illness I had.
Losartan nearly killed me!! With Lisinipril I developed the most painful non-stop hacking cough to where my lungs hurt. I felt like a guinea pig for the pharma industry Both of these drugs should be off the market!! Through trial & error, my doctor finally found one that works for me...Cartia XT
Thanks for sharing I take the first two now I know what is causing some times my night cough I will talk to my Doctor about it on my next appointment. Again thank you very much 🙏
While not too common, Lisinopril can also cause swelling of the face and tongue. I was recently hospitalized for the latter, with sudden onset after using Lisinopril for some time.
Amlodipine is the worst, my legs swelled up+ I had severe legs cramps at night made me scream blue murder. I had to get acupuncture treatments to take the excess fluid out+ take of the pain...so, never again I will take amlodipine.
@@kenteno822 I been wondering about certain things as well.9 years 1 aspirin a day .i notice purple circle spots on her arm little vessels under skin that bleed a little thinking meds or aspirin could be the reason have to address this with her cardiologist
I have been taking Lisinopril for years, but it was given to me to regulate my kidneys. I think I did have that shortness of breath at one point, but it did go away. What are we to do for illnesses????
You know what helped reduce my high blood pressure ? Staying as far away from humans . Living out in the middle of woke free nowhere . Less humans to aggravate me . Tranquillity ....... The opposite of Las Vegas .
Crippleguy, 😄😄 I just got out of isolation ( because of covid) and my numbers for both hypertension and diabetes were greatly reduced while isolated. This is no joke no lie. Some of us need to restrict the hours of contact with people 🤫😂
Lisinipril, when I took it every place on my body where there's hair would itch alot and it was awful , I told my pharmacist and I've never had that reaction to a medication, the itching didn't stop til I quit taking lisinipril and I took benadryl .
Wow. I take Lisinipril and I don't have that problem. It was probably reacting with with something that was different in your body. What do you take now?
I'd been taking Lisinopril and Atenolol for several years without a problem and one day at work I spontaneously threw up a couple times and my throat was feeling weird, so I sent a note to co-workers I was heading home. Some hot lemonade and a couple allergy pills (Dyphenhydamine) to maybe help get to sleep and an hour later I was having problems breathing and drove myself to the ER. And then it got bad. First two people assisting then 8, then 12. A shot of epinephrine made breathing just a little easier for maybe 30 seconds. During the forth attempt at getting a breathing tube in everything went black and I got a full breath of air and heard applause. I woke up the next afternoon with my dad beside the bed. A side effect of Lisinopril is Angioedema--like an allergic reaction where your throat closes up. If it had happened the weekend before while camping remote I'd have died.
That actually happened to me as well but it was will penicillin to treat a ear infection . My throat started feeling funny and started to close and I was itching all over my body . If I didn't go to ER when I did I would have died also .
Blockages and narrowing of arteries cause high blood pressure. I drink about 60 ml of whiskey 3 or 4 times a week. I believe the beneficial ingredients in whiskey helps dissolve minor blockages in arteries.
Here in the USA after one night over boozing they kept me on blood pressure medication for 15 years even though my blood pressure at home and store machine, never went over 125 / 70. I'm not talking about one doctor, no I change 5 doctor during that period, in their office my blood pressure always was 140 / 80 while at home never reached even mid 120 / 70. I gave up doctors and continued my healthy diet and 6 days a week exercise and have been on 115 / 60 for quiet awhile. Forget about those prescription writers " doctors" take control of your life in your own hands.
You just never had the right doctor. BP seems like it’s always higher in the office . I don’t know how long the doctor spends with you but maybe he should have taken again after you were in his office about 10 minutes.
Normal BP used to be 130/80 then went to 120/80 or below. My doctor explained this, it was only to sell more BP drugs. Most people don't understand that your BP changes all day. 160 and below will not do any damage, at that point you'll need to make lifestyle changes or then consider drugs. Don't let these drug manufacture reps scare you or convince you to become their customer.
I agree ,to much scare momngerings, you have a stroke if you dont take our meds,I say why are people having stroke and never had high bp then,we all have our number bp ,so stop scare mongering,Its fear the biggest killer and doc know this.
True! Blood pressure is like a photograph. It's a snapshot of the moment it's taken. It changes throughout the day. I told my doctor that I refuse to accept any readings taken by the nurse after I've been fighting traffic, running across the parking lot trying not to be late, running into a crowded elevator, misinformation given to me by the front desk, jumping on and off the scale, walking down the hall, jumping on the table and squeezing the sh** out of my arm. I give him a 12 month calendar of random readings throughout each, month and we go over it to see if I need any adjustments, I also told him I'll only take one pill. There are so many medications of various strengths, if I take anything at all, it'll have to be condensed into one pill. They can all cause renal failure, so I'm very adamant about taking synthetic drugs of any kind.
I also understand what a guinea pig feels like. I started with Atenolol, got switched to Lisinopril and due to uncontrolled coughing, got switched Amlodipine and now my feet are swelling.
S F You and anyone else that trust medical drs. Are actually Lab animals So keep taking meds that bring havoc to your system and you will be a statistic like all those that trust man instead turning their lives to GOD.! Shalowm and Amen.!
I am having the same problem can't find a good doctor All they want to do is prescribe you pills and they have no idea what they do to you be careful please
After 15 years of taking lisonapril my lips swelled and the ER said I was allergic. Same with amlodipine. I lost over 100 lbs so I’m feeling fine with no meds now
With me, I'm on a lifetime regimen by taking two high blood pressure medications: Benazepril (generic form of Lotensin) 40mg & Hydrochlorothiazide (HCL) 12.5mg for decades & decades and I'm doing well with them. No side effects whatsoever. Of course, I'm required to see my doctor on a three-month follow-up though. Thanks for sharing this information. 🙂👍✌️🦉🙏
People with Gout problems wouldn’t fare well with Hydrochlorothiazide . They need to stay hydrated , as soon as you start to take HCL and losing fluid is when Gout will flare up .
That wonderful little water pill has just been found to cause skin cancer. My doctor took me off it when she realized I had just had to have three skin cancer removal procedures last month and put two and two together.
I've had BBP since my 40's. Ittooksome time to get the right kind a dosage. I kicked snd screamed the entire time. I'm now 79 still taking them. My mother had a stroke st 58 and died at 67. There weren't the pills then ee have now. Take your medicine.
In India, we always have combination medicines. I and my wife were prescribed Amlodipine+Lisnopril. 18 years of medication, and no problem whatsoever. I'm 64 and she's 65. Quite healthy for our age.
I take lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide along with metroprolol six days a week. I skip Sundays. That's my drug free day. Don't care much for the metroprolol. Just had my yearly physical and my blood pressure was 125/75. No major side affects. Wish I could get off medication altogether.
I was switched from Metropolol Tartrate to Metropolol Succinate….MAJOR….Difference‼️….My drs. over the years only prescribed the Tartrate for Decades…and I always felt weird on it…..then a new dr. changed to 25 mg Succinate once daily….JOILA‼️…I feel FANTASTIC….I researched the difference …The Tartrate is used in patients after having a heart attack….I HAVE NEVER had a heart attack….then I was MAD‼️‼️….I sure wished I had been on the Succinate….instead…damn‼️…..but..my high BP is inherited….my weight, diet and exercise are top notch…..but…even though my ekgs and stress tests came out well….my heart felt weird at times…..NOT NOW….and thankfully, it is a low dosage…
I take metoprolol succinate with diltiazem to help my high BP and Afib and flutter. An electrophysiologist did an ablation and I have been symptom free since. No amount of exercise or a healthy diet would have helped my condition.
I take Amlodapine 5mg. Once daily Benazepril 10mg. Twice daily and Carvedilol 12.5mg. Twice daily been taking them for years . BP is usually 110 / 60 .
I have been taking Losartan/Potassium for many years and it works well in keeping my BP in a normal range. But sometimes my BP runs high after CPAP treatment because I have sleep apnea.
I don’t have high blood pressure but I do had irregular heart beat due to a defect in my heart. Born with it. I take low dose BP meds to regulate my beats so I feel better.
Had a doctor insist on treating me for HP, first was Lisinopril (sorry for spelling), had everything side affect and more. Second was Amlodipine made it 10 days then realized the excruciating joint pain in my shoulders and arms was caused by the drug. The doctor admitted I had not only experienced side affects to these meds but also,"adverse reactions". Can't remember off the top of my head but in researching these drugs one of them is banned in five or six European countries. I don't do well on pharmaceutical drugs and prefer natural options. Also before going on BP meds a chiropractic spinal adjustment would be wise to do as the cervical spinal misalignment can cause BP to increase.
Same here. The doc made me go from 10mg Linosopril a day to 20. After a week-10 days, I would wake up with my heart doing somersaults inside my chest. I went to 10 mg and was fine. A month later went to 20mg and it started all over again. I tried it 2 more times with the same results. Now she has me on Blue Mouse Shit Losartan, 2x25mg a day. No side effects at all. The real poison that almost killed me was Atorvastatin. After 2-1/2 years on it, I felt like 90 years old, ready to die, terrible arthritis, and my thighs burned terribly after walking 50 feet. I was 65. I threw all of my meds in the garbage and within 3 months felt like I was in my 50's again. I had hepatis in 1980 and it causes me to have strange reactions to common meds.
I was prescribed Lisinopril and not long after starting having seizures but my doctor who was giving it to me said it was nothing now it is effecting my speech
@@Noname-hc1fn My doctor spent a whole 3 minutes with me when she said to double the dose. I just don't trust doctors these days. They are pill pushers and spend very little time with patients. Better eating habits and fewer prescription medicines make me able to do the things I did in my 50's again. I'll be 69 later this year. I take care of a lady who has diabetes and has small strokes every so often. Yesterday she could not find words. Her A1C is always high when she gets these problems. It's 8.8 now. I went from 7.6 to 5.7 A1C by food alone and feel much better. I don't even test blood sugar anymore. I hope you get to the bottom of your troubles!
I get such a scream out of this BS. After my 3rd heart attack, my cardiologist had me taking meds to lower my BP even though the systolic was 76. Yes, 76. Then I had my fourth heart attack, and they wanted to insert a chest tube to give me meds to RAISE my BP because the systolic had dropped to 110 ONE TIME over night. We've been told for decades that eggs, red meat, and ANY fat were poisons. Now we're being told they're good for us. I don't think doctors have any idea what they're talking about anymore .
@@bobkucharski9425 It had been 76 before the heart attack, and they were giving me meds to lower my blood pressure. Then they wanted to put a chest tube in when I was in the hospital to RAISE my BP because the systolic dropped from 120 to 110 ONE TIME. Apparently 76 was "too high" but 110 was "too low."
I hear a lot of people complaining about ankle and foot swelling and that's caused by chronic kidney disease or heart disease or both, I have both and I have swelling (edema) from my toes all the way up to my belly. BP medication helps unburden my blood vessels, heart myocardial tissue and kidney nefrons and I have been on most of these medications in the past, right now I'm on metroprolol and it works pretty good. What I really need at this point is some new heart valves which should eliminate the edema. Swelling has nothing to do with the BP medication. I see doctors (cardiologists, nefrologists, endocrinologist) continuously and often... too often for my liking.
What causes HBP if the liver and kidneys are okay and you exercise and aren’t over weigh? How many people do they need to treat to prevent a stroke or heart attack? Does HBP meds cure or just treat the symptoms? We’re can I find double blind control test not funded or controlled by big pharmaceutical?
Surprised you didn't mention Verapamil SR which I and many others take. A calcium channel blicker, it's the only one that stops my cluster headaches which are the most painful headaches you can get,, much worse than my migraines.
I was on ziak and water tablet stopped taking it years ago. Felt better. Then had to go on larsarton for years then i decided to go to gym 3x week lost weight felt better doct said leave tablets which i did. Feel great now whst helped was i never smoked and gave up drinking 15 yrs ago.
All I can say is stay away from Amlodipine. I was on it for a year or more. Crazy side effects. For the past 2 yrs I have been on Valsartan 325mg. Very little side effects and it works. When I check my BP its usually around 125/78 or in that range.
Seriously, are you qualified to advise people to stay away from Amlodipine?? I have been on amlo since 2014, and my blood pressure is consistently in the 170/80 range and I'm in the very much senior age range. I'd be very careful if I were you bud... I'd prefer to listen to the advice from my GP, than get medical advice from any RU-vid and.
Microzide (Gliclazide) is a sulfonylurea type of anti-diabetic medication used to treat type 2 diabetes. It is also sold under the brand name Diamicron. it is not used to lower blood pressure.
Oh yes it is, I’ve been taking it for more than two decades for blood pressure, not for diabetes. It’s been around in some form for longer than that that I am aware of. My understanding is that a secrete salt to the urine and not sugar unless there’s a collection of sugar that follows but I’m taking some thing else for the secretion through the urine of sugar by the name of Victoza.
I guess I'm lucky because I've taken Lisinopril and Hydrochloride for 20 years now and never had any side effects. My blood pressure is perfect every time I go to the doctor which is every 6 months.
Lot of information covered in this short vid, thanks ! A bit surprised at not mentioning ARB drugs, would have thought they are most prescribed too. Bottom line is that each drug comes with its side effects and the tradeoff of uncontrolled bp vs the collateral damage is an assessment that is unique to each patient & should be treated as such.
@@MikeB-in1nd Agree. I believe the number of NNT for hypertension is about 68 for 5 years. IOW, 68 ppl treated for 5 years will prevent 1 cardiovascular event.
@@OS-bs9ky Yes, i was merely quoting the number from literature. The fact that each one is unique is sometimes lost on docs that always aim for the golden number. There are others that are happy when the number is over 140, one of my relatives is 70 and happy at 150 with no issues whatsoever, but get it down to 140 and she's in big trouble! Each person is different.
