Being hauled off to Commorragh by some black-clad space elves is still the worst way to go. I cannot stress it enough, just how gruesome and brutal it is. Put it in the perspective of virtually immortal beings, how quick the decades of agony for their victims are to them. Think immolating someone alive for a full day with no nerve endings burning off, that's how quick it is to them. To them it's a death coming far too quick, and by that compressed timescale alone defines what the worst way to go is, in the universe of W40K.

oh, when 'brutal' and 'drukhari' are in the same sentence, there is one thing I can mention: in the Path of the Dark Eldar omnibus, there is a Succubus that was in the same regeneration room with El Uriach's skull (taken from a demon-corrupted subrealm) when he was resurrected by torturing an Exodite Worldsinger. Since El Uriach was already corrupted by a demon, the corruption spread to her and everyone else in the room, amplifying some of their worst traits. For her, it was overconfidence. Some time later, her overconfidence got so great that she tried to run an obstacle course that was basically an unsurvivable woodchipper. The result is obvious. The irony, is that El uriach was killed days later after she died by the same Exodite that reactivated the inert Glass Plague in the bodies of everyone in the room, turning him into a glass statue.

You missed out the part from the chronicles of Uriel Ventris where he is fighting the dark eldar. He and a squad of other marines burst into a room and find a skeleton on a medical table with a bunch of machinery. They search more before finding the previous owner of the skeleton. Skinned, cut up, boneless. Yet all his veins and arteries are still intact so he doesn’t die. He is hanging from the fielding by a meat hook and his eyes cannot blink. He stares at Uriel with the most pain anyone can feel behind them before being able to mouth “kill me” dryly. Uriel proceeds to put a bolt round in his head and put him out of his misery. Brutal.

I haven't read a lot of WH40k but I always remember that scene when talking about gruesome and miserable fates, in this lore or any others. The idea of body horror cuts deep.

@@insertname9736 Theoretically, no. With sufficient rehydration and parenteral feeding and with a healthy dose of pharmaceuticals you can last for some time. Given how the BDSM junkie elves are a race that has existed for 'round 60 millions of years and are shown to be, in canon, quite technologically advanced, i don't see it to be a difficult thing for a Haemonculus to do something like that. It's kinda their thing.

Yeah the death of Sangi is at least 3 decades old. I bought my first white dwarf when i was 13. It had the bull centaur on the cover, an article on new Deathwing terminators and it with one of the original story of the Horus Heresy/ siege of terra in it-it felt like the body count in it was higher too. I'm now 43 so...

There was a Word Bearer who was forcibly entombed within a dreadnought as a punishment. His limbs were amputated so he could fit into the sarcophagus, in which he know spends the remainder of his days chained and shackled within the bowels of their ship. Not necessarily a brutal death, but that's arguably worst.

One of the more brutal ones I remember when reading the plague wars is Death guard corrupting a captain or someone to speak with a greater demon through him and he starts transforming and shit. Cant remember exactly what was written but it was brutal

The ones that get to me are the ones that go beyond a grisly death to describe how the soul gets defiled afterward. In fact, the most terrifying aspect of warhammer in general is how little sovereignty one has over their own soul.

Mericus Geraldus, the cool armyman stationed on Sotha during Heresy in Pharos novel. He and his lads are around to see the Night Lords attack on the planet, they even manage to kill several of them. You keep rooting for him and his friends to make it out...but they get captured and Nightlord'd. They cut off his eyelids and skin him before his body just gives out.

I remember one particular story about an Imperial Fist that got caught and slowly transformed by Fabius Bile, only to be turned on loyalist forces. Him screaming in his mind that he's a loyalist while not having full control over his body. I can't remember exactly how he died, atm, but the whole story was brutal af.

You know, I actually saw a Warhammer fic that gave some downright horrific deaths to daemons. Essentially to put, this was a DAOT planet that tried to leave the galaxy in Age of Strife only to be caught in a warp storm. With the use of utterly broken technology, they would bind a daemonic prince to a tortured body and use warp surgery to remove their gifts until they are just husks. Hilariously, the fate was so horrific that daemons that manifested in the world desperately fled in utter terror of the human forces. I think it was Out of the Dark. A fanfic, but I figured it would be fun to mention.

Worst death is the first Night Lord on the walls during the Siege of Terra. He gets promised infinite life and that he will become a master of pain. He accepts, then gets told the *way* he will become a master of pain is by being tortured in the warp for 6 x 666 years. The moment he wakes up in the warp he starts screaming. That's grimdark as hell.

Here’s the thing. Sanger’s death was brutal, the gut wrenching part though was when Horus grabbed Sanger by the ankle and is slow motion slammed him into the deck with so much force the deck of the Vengeful Spirit buckled.
