Sergeant Reznik (Maria Bello) indoctrinates Ben (Nick Robinson from Love, Simon and A Teacher) into the military, and shows him what the Others look like. Through a machine, he discovers one of the Others which has taken control of the body and the mind of a child. Sergeant Reznik pushes him to kill it, Ben hesitates and then does, also killing the boy.

What’s the The 5th Wave movie about?
Earth is invaded by aliens, who are called "The Others". The invasion plan of the Others to take control of Earth included several steps called the "Waves". The First Wave is an electromagnetic pulse that destroys all electrical sources and electronic components, the Second Wave is a gigantic earthquake causing tsunamis and storms destroying infrastructure and cities. The Third Wave is a worldwide epidemic derived from the bird flu, modified by the Others to be more deadly. The human race is on the verge of extinction after this series of alien attacks that decimate the planet. Therefore, the human race stands on the brink of extinction as a series of these alien attacks decimate the planet, causing earthquakes, tsunamis and disease. Separated from her family, 17 year old Ohio teenager Cassie Sullivan (Chloë Grace Moretz from The Miseducation of Cameron Post and If I Stay), will do whatever it takes to reunite with her brother Sam. Fate leads her to form an alliance with Evan Walker (Alex Roe from Forever my Girl), a mysterious young man who may be her last hope. Forced to trust each other, Cassie and Evan fight for survival during the fifth assault from the invaders.
