@@TaylorWelding My problem starts with the root. I am pretty sure its just my rod angle I have to correct there and maybe move a little faster. For some reason I tend to want to slow down at the bottom. We are also welding uphill vs downhill. I also have issues with the cap in the same locations. This is the first welding I have ever done so I guess I just need to figure out what works for me.

Good instruction. In a future video, please tell us about your Vantage 300. I’ve always kinda’ wanted one but for what I do, the Ranger 305G makes more sense. I’ve had two of them and my older one is only “Semi” retired with over 7400 hours on it! I still use it in the shop regularly and on the rare occasion that I want a machine on the ground or in the building I’m working on. I just noticed your Vantage because, from what I understand, most pipe hands lean toward the SAE’s and Classic’s. Just curious about your take on the Vantage in a pipe welding setting. By the way, I’m a self-employed rig welder/fabricator that works on everything but more agricultural based with a fair amount of trucks and heavy equipment thrown in the mix.

I have a vantage 300,400 and a 305EFI. And after ew older 200 and a classic 2. Out of all those machines my favorites are the classic 2 and the 305EFI. The ranger welds identical to the vantage cause they use the same control boards. Only time I use the 400 is for heavy fab when I need to burn 1/4" 7018 for days on end. Can you guess which one I use the most? The 305EFI. And I'm a pipe guy mainly that dabbles in structural and heavy equipment repair

Most of the time that comes from holding the grinding wheel straight at the bottom. You cut out a U shape. What you want is a V shape .And then stay off the middle and keep the digging part of the rod on the sides. Also if you are using rods smaller than 3/16 try a # 9 lens.I used one for 40 years and it did not hurt my eyes.Keep that lens clean.

There also a way that u can just float a weld on the walls until u get it to a gap u want like a 1/16-3/32 and then grind that weld down and just push on the gap u made it should come out real good , now xray and everything I have heared it will pass I have done it but I’m still practicing.

I bought a second one for my other machine. There's another company making one similar but the name escapes me. I've done extensive searching. The ESAB unit isn't as well built as the Stubby-but it's a fairly solid.
