Ketchikan Alaska is a great port of call for most Alaska Cruises. It is the southern most port in Alaska and also the Salmon Capital of the World!
Beware that NCL will dock at Ward Cove Terminal and is about a 20 min bus ride to Ketchikan.
With most cruise ships docking downtown, walking around Ketchikan is a very easy and enjoyable thing to do. There is Creek Street with the wooden sidewalks and colorful buildings. Lots of Salmon in the creek and upstream at a salmon ladder.
Ketchikan has a lot of great food and we visited Jellyfish Donuts to try the salmon donut.
Two of our favorite shore excursions are the Rain Forrest Sanctuary Nature Walk, which can be combined with a biplane. On this excursion we saw several bears, eagles, and of course salmon.
The Wilderness Cruise Silver Lodge and Seafood Feast is also a great excursion to see eagles, the rainforest, and have some great food!
Ketchikan is also a great place to fish and take a seaplane for sightseeing.
The really nice thing about Alaska cruises in general is that the days are long so you can enjoy more than one excursion while in port.
