the way you said you have to build up stamina for a genre before just jumping in is SO true. When I haven't read fantasy in a while I read so slowly just to get used to it again

@@molliee5183 ray bearer by Jordan Ifueko - African fantasy . Unique magic , fast paced , short. Nevermoor by Jessica Townsend - middle grade series that captures the wonder of Harry Potter and does it in a much better story, imo. mistborn by Brandon Sanderson - sort of fantasy heist novel at first, becomes more than that after book 1. shadow of the gods by John Gwynne - Norse inspired, son kidnapped. Mother chasing after the kidnappers.

I've always asked myself how can book influencers read so much having other jobs and things to do, and how do they not get burnt out of how much different storys and characters have they known in such a short time. So I understand how you're feeling but you dont need to talk about 6 or more books in a wrap up to make it interesting!! i would love to see a deeper talk about 3 books sometimes. And its funny because book influencers reading so much makes us - the suscribers - feel pressure or guilty of not reading that much, and it's not your fault obviously but it's a vicious cycle of seeing our reading as a number

a new memoir that has really peaked my interest is called "I'm Glad my Mom Died" by Jennette McCurdy. It's release date is in August, but it caught my attention because I grew up watching her. I know you have mentioned reading more memoirs, maybe this one will make the TBR? Anyway, thank you :)

Don’t stress out on how many books you feel you “should” read. I would rather you read a few books that you throughly enjoyed and share those with me. Life has enough stress in it to add “ mandatory “ reading into it when you already have that for school.

To answer your questions, best book of the month was "The House of Sleep" by Jonathan Coe which was a really exciting read that really kept me hooked 😍 on the other hand "Aphorisms on Love & Hate" by Nietzsche was a disappointment for me because it felt like something was missing and the author's point of view was really misogynous 🤦‍♀️ I totally get when you talk about reading in terms of numbers because sometimes I also feel some kind of pressure about reading more, achieving goals and it's not right. Whenever I feel anxious, I try to slow down too and really focus on the joy of living inside an adventure through the pages 🌟 Thanks for being a sushine in our lives 🌻💛

Best books this month: The Thursday Murder Club, Conversations with Friends Worst book: The Hating Game I was very disappointed by The Hating Game, surprisingly :( It turned me off the romance genre a little bit for a while as well. Hi Noelle! Normally I am a silent watcher, but I thought I'd chime in with some hist fic author recs. - Mimi Matthews: She does romance, but her romance is full to the brim of historical elements. She discusses these in blog posts and in her newsletters. I've been following her for years, and her writing has only improved and she continues to be so kind to her readers. She actually has a nonfic titled "The Pug Who Bit Napoleon", which is a fantastic book about famous people's animal companions. - Fiona Davis: I read "The Lions of Fifth Avenue" by her in 2020. Good book- I really want to read "The Magnolia Palace" by her. -Elizabeth Camden! Her "The Spice King" novel is great. Light romance, but really focused on the Spice Trade and the beginnings of the USDA/ FDA. The second book in the series focuses on a main character who works for the First Lady. Hope you are doing well and staying cool ~~

My favorite: Heartstopper through all volumes currently release. I haven’t read something so lighthearted and sweet in a while so it was a nice change of pace. My least and probably my 2022 albatross: The Sound and the Fury by Faulkner. I’ve never read Faulkner but felt up to the challenge in March. I then lost that drive so it’s been sitting in my Libby, with me being too stubborn to DNF A memoir recc: High Risk Homosexual. It’s new and I believe the authors debut. I really connected to it as a queer person but I also loved reading a memoir from someone relatively young.

Solidarity over here with the over-saturation / struggle with reading this April! For me the stress of life has affected my reading a lot. I'm not a content creator, but I do track my reading too. I've needed to slow down and enjoy the experience more just like you mentioned. Similarly as well, the books I found most joy in aren't the ones I'm enjoying at the moment. I'm proud of you for leaning in to what's working. Awesome work!!

Historical fiction is one of my favorite book genres, so I have some really good books in mind! First, Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry, wow this is a Western and it focuses on ex-Texas Rangers, but before you read it I STRONGLY suggest reading Empire Of The Summer Moon by S. C. Gwynne (which is actually non-fiction but amazing nonetheless because the author is extremely enthusiastic about the subject matter, which is felt through the text). Then I would suggest Shogun by James Clavell, it is a very politically driven story and it is quite long but the payoff in the end is great. Another you may like that I am currently reading is Dragon Springs Road by Janie Chang, kind of a more coming of age story.

I totally understand what you've said about feeling overwhelmed about the number of book you think you HAVE to read 🥺 I don't create book content but in december I left university to work again because we struggle with money (and life in general) and every month I feel like I have to prove myself that I'm not only a "work/clean/sleep/being costantly exhausted" kind of person, that I'm still able to enjoy a bit of relax and study and read🥺🤍 I always feel lost and defeated so I thought that read a lot would prove me that I'm still loving and intelligent. So april was a total disaster and I've read only two books, worked like a maniac and felt powerless. I hope and I'll try and be more present and less competitive with myself and read as much as my tired head is able to. Love u. Thanks🤍

if you wanna read more historical fiction you should read the island by vicoria hislop . heres the good reads description : On the brink of a life-changing decision, Alexis Fielding longs to find out about her mother's past. But Sofia has never spoken of it. All she admits to is growing up in a small Cretan village before moving to London. When Alexis decides to visit Crete, however, Sofia gives her daughter a letter to take to an old friend, and promises that through her she will learn more. Arriving in Plaka, Alexis is astonished to see that it lies a stone's throw from the tiny, deserted island of Spinalonga - Greece's former leper colony. Then she finds Fotini, and at last hears the story that Sofia has buried all her life: the tale of her great-grandmother Eleni and her daughters and a family rent by tragedy, war and passion. She discovers how intimately she is connected with the island, and how secrecy holds them all in its powerful grip.. hope you like it

I find myself constantly looking at other people’s hands and comparing mine and theirs and finding things I like or dislike about hands without realizing at first. Glad to know my hand obsession isn’t a one-off lol

My favorite book this month was definitely the Heartstopper series!! I loved it so much! The biggest disappointment of the month was The summer I turned pretty series ugh it was so so bad I have the whole thing a 1.5-2 stars. My reading this month has been okay 😊 I’ve definitely been feeling more meh about reading but I’ve ordered a ton of new reads so I’m super excited about those!

I love Kurt Vonnegut and one of my favorite videos about Slaughterhouse-Five is the 2 part crash course literature video on it! I just love the way John Green talks about books :)) part 1: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F6g7S2W27Kc.html part 2: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HyKhIiGKq5M.html

i recently read 'four treasures of the sky' by jenny tinghui zhang, it's a historical fiction following a girl from china who is smuggled to america - it's set after the chinese exclusiona act i think, so it also tackles a lot of the anti-chinese sentiment at the time. i really liked it and recommend!

Dancing girls is a historical fiction also set in France! Beginning is quite slow but plot really thickens when the focus is shifted onto the older sister. The author basically saw a sculpture and decided to make a backstory for the unnamed girl depicted in it which is quite neat and I think it’ll be a quick read for you

Obviously, this is your channel and you have to do what you feel is best, BUT 😬 I much prefer when my booktubers are savoring and enjoying what they read. Not every book is a great book, but when they take their time and settle into what they are reading (good, bad, DNF, ETC.) I find it much more enjoyable, relatable and believable than when they are just pumping out book after book. Some booktubers listen to audiobooks at a speeds that just seem impossible to process or they rip through a 300 page book in 2 hours. I find it SO hard to believe that they are comprehending ANY of the information they are taking in. There’s no way those books are sticking with them! I feel like they MUST be missing out on so much of what the book has to offer by rushing thought just for the sake of numbers. I’d much rather see a realistic 3-10 book wrap up each month than an overwhelming list of things someone half-ass experienced. Just my 2 cents. Love you, love your channel 💖

So far in 20222, my favorite historical fiction is : Life After Life by Kate Hutchinson. I actually read it twice because I knew that I had missed some things the first go round. The only memoir I have read this year was Beautiful Boy by David Sheff. As a parent, this one gutted me, but it was beautifully excellent.

I started reading Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson (fantasy)in April just for a switch up and to check out a Sanderson novel. Also not my usual genre. Am still reading Mistborn in May..... Like it so far but don't love it. Was pretty busy in April so didn't have much time to read. Hopefully I will love it by the end like you did with your fantasy experience! Best historical fiction: 1. All the Light We Cannot See (WW II) 2. Mists of Avalon (King Arthur retelling) 3. The Tea Rose (trilogy- light hearted romp set in late 1800's). 4 . Kate Quinn books are all good - fun reads 5. Lilac Girls/Lost Roses by Martha Kelley. Lilac Girls was WWII. Lost Roses is about the Russian revolution. Both great. 6. Phillippa Gregory has a good series for all the wives of Henry VIII. Each wife has her own book. War of the Roses series was a mixed bag but I loved a couple of the books (White Queen) See I can finish a book - lol. Happy May reading

Bestie. Historical fiction is all I want to read right now. I’m reading Looking for Jane by Heather Marshall. It’s a good time to read this book as it’s talking about The Homes for unwed mother run by the church and the underground abortion clinics in Canada and the States. One of my favourite Historical Fictions of All time Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi. It follows two half sisters from Ghana and their descendants. It’s a heart breaking book but so beautifully written. I love Kate Quinn’s Writing. She writes about badass women during the world wars. The two I’ve read and loved are The Alice Network & The Huntress. Ruta Sepetys always writes about lesser known historical events. She is YA so it’s not as graphic. The Fountains of Silence (Spanish Dictatorship during the 1950-60s), Between Shades of Gray (Lithuanians in Siberian work camps), Salt To The Sea ( World War Two in East Prussia) I love Kristin Hannah and these are my favs of hers(in order) : The Great Alone (70s rural Alaska), The Nightingale (France World War Two) , The Winter Garden (Russia World War Two)& The Four Winds (The Great Depression US) Just to name a few ! I have a lot I want to read this year

I'm not sure if you've read these before but these are some of my favourite historical fiction reads that I recommend with my whole heart: Burial Rites by Hannah Kent (imagines the story around a famous event in Icelandic history, the murder conviction and execution of Agnes Magnúsdóttir in 1829), Brooklyn by Colm Tóibín (tender tale of a young Irish woman in 1950s Brooklyn) Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi (moving generational saga) and All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr (unique perspectives on WW2)

I appreciate your honesty re: reading burnout and I look forward to seeing you follow your bliss with books! If/when you decide to swing back towards romance, have you ever read the Captive Prince trilogy by C.S. Pacat? I'm recommending it in part because it has a really fleshed out world and story beyond romance. It reads like historical fiction with complex political intrigue, war, succession, and themes of power, cruelty, revenge, and peacemaking. That being said, it revolves around one of the most epic slow burn m/m romances I've ever read, borderline unendurable (in the best way) with twists that kept surprising me and an ending that feels so satisfying and earned 💗💖💕 Lol ever since I read it I've been recommending it to everyone who reads romance ⚔🏰🐎👑 **CW: Violence, slavery, r*pe, mentions of child SA (not directly shown)

Favorite book in April that I read was My Body by Emily Ratajkowski. It's a memoir! Biggest disappointment was Where the Crawdads Sing... I just couldn't stomach them talking in dialect, for some reason. And I just didn't feel compelled by the plot. What you say is so true though. In January I read 7 books and in April I only read 3.5... so, yeah. Lol.
