Agreed and actually book 2 in the series is the best. Book 1 has the scene you mentioned that is abhorrent however book 2 and Season 2 is enemies to lovers and they are two characters who are an equal match for each other in every way. *chefs kiss* The show is better due to the diverse casting and slight changes to the story that in my opinion made the story better

Where The Crawdads Sing! I just CANNOT get over how beautifully the author is able to depict nature. The end (last like 25 pages) was a little *meh* for me after how fulfilled the rest of the book was for me, but still gave it a 5/5!

My best book of the month was “East of Eden” by John Steinbeck - OMFG! My most delightful book of the month was “Book Lovers” by Emily Henry - I devoured it too! And my biggest surprise was “Don Quixote” - by Miguel de Cervantes - So funny, but so tragic. It kind of made me feel bad for laughing out loud at some moments, since a mental illness is involved.

my biggest surprise this month was “conversations with friends” by sally rooney. i decided to read it before i watched the tv show. i still haven’t made up my mind about this book, but i couldn’t put it down. i was so intrigued by the narrator’s thought process and behavior + the interactions between the characters. i loved that it sparked actual conversations between me and my own friends as i was reading. nonetheless, i’m not sure what’s my opinion on it (LMAO).

Re Bridgerton, I've watched and really enjoyed both seasons - fun, addictive, great romances - but I had the same issue with S1 as you. I was really loving the romance until around halfway through the season when, really, we straight up have one half of our pairing sexually assault the other in a pretty triggering scene, and then this event is framed as absolutely fine (even justified) behaviour, with no criticism of it within the narrative whatsoever. In fact, it ultimately gets that character what they wanted out of it. Frankly I'm astonished that when adapting this to screen the writers/show runner didn't alter this part of the story. That said, I enjoyed the rest of the season but it put a big dampener on it and I was no longer enthusiastic about our main couple. I'd still recommend watching if you think you can get past it. If not, S2 was was brilliant and much less problematic - really great enemies to lovers storyline - so I'd definitely recommend just starting from there!

@@megangainsford interesting question! There were a few reasons. When I was a freshman in HS (11 years ago) I had a similar feeling of being outcasted and not really having anyone and my jr high best friend didn’t end up going to the same school but I also got taken under the wings by people in the grade above me, so I feel like I related to that part. I relate to all the parts about social anxiety. I also unfortunately relate to the strained family dynamic/domestic abuse and his perspective was one I felt familiar with. And I am also a teacher so the relationship between Charlie and Mr Anderson warmed my heart so much. I just feel for Charlie a lot and I think it’s interesting that each character has their flaws but also have the things that make them beautiful, too.

Hiii Noelle! I have watched both season 1 and 2 of Bridgerton. imo I liked season 2 more. Season 1 never really discussed or gave a good explanation for the sexual encounter you read on the book and I, like you, did not like that at all. I ended up disliking the character. On season 2 the characters are better (although I think they could be better) but there’s one character that it’s highly disliked and I always wanted to skip her parts. Idk, I don’t think I’ll continue watching the series. It’s just not for me. I’m happy you had a good month, btw! And my surprise of the month was Great Circle. It’s too much plot for me and I was expecting I would be more attached to the characters but it never happened. So it felt like I read 400+ pages and felt nothing.

Fully agree with you about "The Duke & I". After that horrid scene, I will also not be continuing with the books.

My fave book of May was Finding Me by Viola Davis! Highly recommend the audiobook which is narrated by her! Annnnd I also didn’t enjoy ugly love for the same reasons BUT It ends with us and All your perfects are soooooooo much better and I feel like the characters in those books are way more relatable/ loveable/ understandable? I also heard that her newest novel Reminders of Him is absolutely amazing.… Anyway, maybe you’re willing to try one more Colleen hoover ?? Love you x

Bridgerton: The show is EVERYTHING! (Costumes & scenes visually stunning, script is witty, banter is clever. The music beautiful) The books not so much, IMO.

you perfectly described how i felt about just kids! loved the story, patti’s writing, but it was so painfully hard to read this book just because of all the names i didn’t know, events that i’ve never heard about. like the story isn’t boring, the writing isn’t THAT dense, but still it took me month to finish it. i even thought of dnfing it at some point😭

I hated Ugly Love, I didn't connect with the characters and thought the relationship was forced. With that said, I gave Colleen Hoover another chance and read It Ends With Us and WOW, that one was a 5 star and I was SHOCKED. I was attached to one of the main characters, but also felt sympathy. I'm not a book crier, but this was close to getting me to cry. Reminders Of Him was another one that took me by surprise, it was a 4 star. I think the only reason I loved Verity was because it was a horror/thriller. If it wasn't for that, I probably wouldn't love it. My fav book of May was actually The Love Hypothesis, it's a 4.5 for me and I was surprised I devoured it so quickly. My disappointment was Where The Crawdads Sing, gave it a 3.5 It's basically a dulled down version of one of the best movies ever, Wild Things.

The Duke and I is really the WORST and for unknown reasons, they did not change it in the show. Book two is amazing and perfect and yet, for unknown reasons, they changed it SO MUCH. I have a lot of feelings about it. Lol My favorite and most surprising read of May are the same book, You Made a Fool of Death with Your Beauty by Akwaeke Amezi. Absolutely amazing.

Favorite this month was Before They are Hanged by Joe Abercrombie. I of course, enjoyed my reread of A Game of Thrones. My least favorite was Bridge of Clay, though I didn't hate it just didn't love it. Please watch the show! It's amazing, especially season 2.

Moved countries at the start of April and left a lot of my books at home, and haven’t had time to really read anything I brought with me. However, I saw Elektra by Jennifer Saint and had to pick it up as I loved Ariadne (her first novel) so much! Elektra was gorgeous, but I gave it 3.5 stars. I don’t really know why it was named Elektra, it’s told from the viewpoint of 3 different women. Electra’s story was my least favourite of the three also. Still, overall a gorgeous book, beautifully written with wonderful imagery. Definitely worth the read. I just started “Before the Coffee Gets Cold” and I’m really looking forward to it.💫

I usually do not like historical fiction so I was super surprised that I LOVED the book "little: a novel" by Edward Carey. Loved it so much it is one of my new favorite books. I listened to it on audible and the voice actor did such a wonderful/perfect job. The synopsis is: "The wry, macabre, unforgettable tale of an ambitious orphan in Revolutionary Paris, befriended by royalty and radicals, who transforms herself into the legendary Madame Tussaud." It's told like a fictional memoir. This both surprised me that I loved it and also became one of my favs!

It really sucks that the Bridgerton series starts with the Duke and I, the worst and most problematic book, because the rest is really enjoyable! Season 2 was AMAZING and talk about a slow burn and the TENSION. Anthony's book was one of my favorites of that series as well.
