So I was editing this video at 3am when I noticed that RGL released the WHDLoad Package update. I did a quick re-record and edit so I could bring you lovely people the news when you wake up! Now I'm off to bed for about a year! Any questions as always leave them in the comments, and happy gaming my friends!
@@darranparker3930 it certainly is. It just popped into my head when I saw fella thanking you for your help and I saw your comment. I definitely did not find it and play the song afterwards either.
@@Moggster23 I've listened to the song quite a bit lately. The video of it is good. My 1st International management as a kid was San Marino, and I got excited haha
A500 mini is amazing, congrats to the company im a casual but my nostalgia if off the roof since i got the a500 mini, its just amazing playing sensible soccer with dualshock is just amazing
@Skipper847 yeah a few of my favourites such as Championship Manager are not on WHDLoad, but I'm just hanging in there for adf support and enjoying what I have!
Oh yeah, I've already put so many hours into SWOS it's so addictive, even after all this time away from playing. Also I've been playing a lot of Banshee and PANG...
HI there buddy. I'm here to give you all the love. The A500 mini really isn't something I know much about but you get my full watch everytime anyway. Happy easter weekend.
As soon as adf support comes i will buy one. I have now got a cheap 1080p TV just for this. There are many Freeware Public Domain games that are not available in a whdload version. I am glad to see updates starting to be released for it. Nice video! 👍
You can already use ADF though the WHDLoad update package, once installed, change settings of a single extra WHDLoad game (UAE file), then from this standard Amiberry config file add use_gui=yes, then make the uae file Read Only. From then on when loading that WHDLoad file you will get the Amiberry GUI where you can load ADF or HDF's (Credit where credits due: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Xith15zSW7k.html&lc=UgwH-bVzLKUnZEL-08R4AaABAg.9_o5yc8lq7D9_o7it8XqEK - RTS: Retro Tech Shed)
Hopefully people will continue to add games to WHDLoad. The community is thriving so I'm sure people are constantly working on things like this. I need Championship Manager ASAP!!
Seems like a lot more games are working. I have tried some of the ones that came up with the coloured "The A500" logo (Amiberry?) and they now seem to work. I can now play Turrican and James Pond. Nice.
Yeah I have found that too. Isn't it great! I am currently working on a video where I will test a bunch of games using the old WHDLoad package, and then the new to compare. Stay tuned!!
had that issue as well with captain planet, Hopefully this patch fixes it, I cant wait to play it again. I tried risky woods but the slowdown is horrendous no matter what settings i use. The mini is a million times easier to use than trying to troubleshoot games on winuae.
@@mountainbearoutdoors oh for sure, I'd give up on winuae, feeling like I needed a degree sometimes! Might just be my ignorance, but I way prefer the simpler approach we get on here. Hope you get those issues sorted my friend
Just wanted to say I had considered the idea that the console outputted not enough energy for some controllers and am glad you pushed me in the right direction -- I went and bought a powered USB hub tonight, and now my PS3 controller is working but not my PS4 one. But either way, I win, I get a more accurate PS1 controller to use! Thank you.
Yes, I had the same problem, the u it wouldn't switch on after having it swit he'd off for while. I also had an external keyboard and usb stick. I fixed the problem by getting a 2.4A power supply. It Works fine now. Also a powered usb hub works well.
Awesome thanks so much for sharing that. I STILL haven't had the time to test mine. Hopefully tonight I can. I have the hub plugged in and I changed my power supply, so I'm all set!
Ah, I was using a 5v 1A, will try swapping to a 5v 2A, I'd be interested to know what powered usb hubs you are both using, I just couldn't get my usb keyboard to work (a generic Microsoft one) I'm .guessing the hub means to can have m+kb, controller and memory stick all plugged in at the same time
If only they had asked the WHDLoad booter author during development, and I could have helped them have much higher compatibility from the off. The latest update is just an update of the XML from my GitHub and screenshot change, so won’t fix everything. Those struggling with game speeds or certain bugs are unlikely to get any fix until the Amiberry core is updated from 3.3 used on the mini to 5.0+
Yeah that's a good shout my friend. I guess they declined to mention that as they recommend 32gb sticks or lower and didn't want a bunch of people trying higher capacity sticks as complaining if they didn't work 🤣
@@YouveBeenGamed Sure. It isn't problem with FAT32 but with hardware ....there will be always problem with 128 GB USB stick also if you use FAT32 on this .There Is ONLY one hope and this is firmware update ...but Its look like odd mainboard/sesoc used in A500 mini . 🤔
128GB Flash drives formated to FAT32 works - tested ;) , but AREN'T STABLE on A500 mini hardware .I use two Kingston 100 G3 DataTravelers drives with 128 And 64 GB capacity. 128GB Drive sometines works perfect ,but time-to time disapear from A500 carousell 🤔. Maybe as power insufficient hardware from PC .It brings serious problems with another connected devices in session ( I using wireless analog Joypad and budget keyboard ) and restart A500 not solve issues permanently. Its look as hardware incompatibility not SW or licensing problem ...Many budget hardware has limitation on 32GB SDCard ( SDHC vs SDXC...etc) and it looks as A500 case. This time i use 64GB variant of Kingston Flashdrive and it look as much more stable flash drive with A500...
@Mr Guru I use Partition Magic for FAT32 format on 128GB USB . ExFAT and NTSC can be licensed... but who care if it works without them ? ( China manufacturers ???) 🤔 IF The A500 can serve under FAT32 also on 128GB stick ? Maybe stability issues with A500 is problem with powering chips inside 128GB USB drive ,and maybe it's not ONLY this basic problem . I don't plan buying powered USB hub only for this reason and laboration . Sometimes 128GB USB flashdisk works fine for long time, sometimes A500 system stucks or goes into loop with USBdrive detection . (Many old Car cameras from China have same problems with detection larger SD memory card ...It recognize larger drives ,but can't correctly work with this .Often this is on old hardware revision from times where 128 GB drives wasn't on market ) I found 64GB Kingston drive as suciffient for my A500. IT works with 2,4Ghz radio dongle for my joypad and mouse/keyboard combo . Better than any powered USB hub purchase this time ...
Wow I downloaded the new WHDload package to see if it would lead to one game I'm having trouble with working, and now all of my are not working. Glad I did that lol
@@YouveBeenGamed Yep sorted now, I think I had just overwritten the previous files a bit sloppy. Cleared it all out and started again and it's fine now, including stuff not previously working so I'm really pleased with that. Thanks for drawing my attention to the new release with your video as I hadn't seen it had come out 👍🏻
@@SpeccyHorace Glad it helped you! That's great news mate about your games working. I'm very happy for you. Scary moment when they things just stop on ya!
On the pi, you would use fast copper & the fix you used to get all of the sensible soccer games to work. I think maybe trolls AGA is is the same for the A500 as it is on the Pi.
@@YouveBeenGamed I got that from a different source, from the Facebook group. It's been a long time since I've tinkered with electronics so my understanding is a bit low
Downloaded it before i went to bed. I was really surprised that if you extract it on your USB drive and manually overwrite the files then you see the old files are from summer last year almost 9 to 10 months old and i was wondering why they had not updated it a week earlier. They could have saved themselves a lot of complaints. :)
Hey that's a good spot my friend! Hmmm it is a little strange. Maybe they were confident things would run without the patch, but when it didn't they released it? Weird one though
Great videos, appreciated. Everything is working great with WHDLoad after following your tutorials, struggling to get a USB keyboard up and running, suspect it's power draw, any advice on an externally powered usb hub?
Thanks, I'll check it out. For the record, despite the manual stating a 5volt 1amp power supply is needed, I couldn't get the keyboard to work. Swapping to a 5volt 2amp supply seemed to get it running, but it meant sacrificing the mouse. I'll check the u-green hub out, appreciated.
Do you know how to get Deluxe Paint working? Bought the system for it but seem to get it running. So many great games, but that’s the standout one for me, if I knew how to get it working!
Might have to wait for adf support, although if you scroll through the comments here you'll find that someone has already got adfs working and there is a link to a video showing you how
I have tried the 8bitdo bluetooth dongle and it connected to my ps4 controller. Just for some reason as soon as I play Kick Off 2 my ps4 controller decides to switch off!
I haven;t done it myself, but a few people on Facebook have if you want to check the Amiga groups. I don't really understand enough about it to do a video on it, if I'm totally honest. I don't want to be responsible for bricking anyone's console! Otherwise we must wait for the adf update, which has rumoured since launch to be coming
I currently using my ds4 (has to be in x-input mode) with the 8bitdo wireless receiver for playstation classic. takes a few seconds to settle down, but then works amazingly. also use wireless keyboard and mouse combo. just could use another slot free for second controller.
Ha funny you should say that, I plugged my 8bitdo in last night. Haven't tested it yet as I spent all night editing this video, but I will be at some point! Glad to hear it works!
The reason why sticks larger than 32GB "don't work" is because, by default, Windows won't format them in FAT32. Using GUIformat or any other external tool lets you format larger sticks in FAT32. Though, as you said before, there's legitimately no need .. you could fit the entire WHDLoad archive on an 8GB USB stick haha!
Yeah absolutely mate, 8gb is more than ample for the time being. I think they want the Mini to be as plug and play as possible, so they want to just encourage people to use their pc to format without all the hassle of searching for other programs etc. Can't blame them really I guess
Yes, there are no techical reasons why FAT-32 cannot be used with USB sticks or SD cards larger than 32 GB. I have written a SD card FAT-32 formatter (for my company's proprietary operating system) that I have tested with cards up to 512 GB. No problems whatsoever and they work with every camera etc device I've tested with. I have also formatted USB sticks up to 256 GB using Linux and they also work everywhere, including my cheap Romanian car's MP3 player. To me Microsoft's decision to not allow formatting large SD/USB memories to FAT-32 has been done solely to be able to extort patent fees from companies forced to use Ex-FAT.
@@henrikherranen2610 To the best of my knowledge, FAT32 supports up to 2TB partitions doesn't it? It's incredibly strange that Microsoft has some artificial lockout on cards above 32GB -- as you say, it sounds pretty much just to force exFAT licenses. Thankfully SO many options exist now to format our devices into any FS we desire, at any size we desire, so eghhh.. no matter eh? \o/ Though, there is one downside, and that's the 4GB file SIZE limit on FAT32.
True. I just don't think it's worth it for this, well unless you plan on adding emulators and stuff further down the line. Otherwise 8gb is more than ample
I had a crappy third party ps3 spartan controller that works flawlessly on the amiga a500 mini and it doesnt seem to crash the console. Havent tryed a normal ps3 controller tho. The ps4 controller is tempermental on everything other than the ps4 but i havent tryed it on the amiga mini
In built Project X is buggy as and when I get to the first boss the boss disappears and the game hangs. Also when starting the game the spacecraft it's faded so it's hard to see for a the first couple of secs and the loading music is non existent
I've added Lemmings on my usb stick and I got it working on my mini. But how can you play this with 2 players simultaneously? I have tried every set-up, but I can't get the second mouse to work properly. Is it anyhow possible??
Hi I tried to play pga tour golf on whdload but it says write protected when deleting players.plr and goes back to the Amiga 500 Home Screen. Can you help?
@@YouveBeenGamed, wow that’s cool, I love it too, one of the games I played when I was younger. Also I’ve been trying to get teenage mutant hero turtles game to work as well but the game speed is a bit too fast and I’m having trouble at slowing it down.
I used a 128gb San disk. I know too big but it's the only one I had. I used a partition format tool to format to Fat32 instead of using Windows quick format worked for me. Just a quick one Not tested yet but I've just downloaded update think I've done it right but where do you place the update, please? Does Xbox Controllers work OK?
No they don't, which is why in a previous video I recommended going branded stick if you want the best chance if success, that and keeping it under 32gb
download the whdload package from the website and then as before drag THEA500 folder to the root of your usb stick. It will overwrite all the files it needs to
If this A500 is not to scale with the C64 mini....its a stupid mistake....Just like the Turbografx mini which was freakin huge and did not match the other minis like the Genesis mini and SNES mini and NES Mini.
I can't guarantee it will fix everything my friend, I guess it's just trial and error like always! I think it overwrites the A500 folder automatically, no need to reinstall all your games
I see: Retrogames tells us lie! Any USB drive can be formated under FAT32 style system with correct utility . But here is serious problem with hardware compatibility. The A500 have problem with USB larger than 32GB ...It's not problem with formating on FAT32 :/ .
As I've said to a few people, they are recommending 32gb in my opinion because they want to make it easy for people and don't want them to go searching for programs to do it when they can just use windows. Also anything larger than around 8gb is pretty unnecessary in all honesty
