The Flex XC 3401 VRG polisher is a positive drive DA polisher. Today...we put it through the Apex Detail Review Process.
Thanks to the direct orbital drive, very little heat develops on the surface, which is ideally suited to temperature-sensitive finishes (i.e., “soft” clear coats). The FLEX XC3401 VRG Orbital Polisher makes it almost impossible to burn the paint! The accelerator trigger switch and speed selection allow for a controlled acceleration to the optimal speed. The FLEX Orbital Polisher’s smooth acceleration and uniform, controlled motion make this DA machine ideal for novices and pros alike.
The FLEX Orbital Polisher is rugged like a work truck but it has sophisticated electronics, like a luxury sedan. A seven-fold microprocessor offers constant speed control by tachometer generator, soft start, accelerator trigger switch, restart protection after power interruption, overload protection, temperature monitoring, and speed selection.
Flex 3401 polisher......www.amazon.com/s?k=flex+3401+...
Backing plate kit.......www.amazon.com/s?k=flex+3401+...
As if that weren’t impressive enough, the FLEX Orbital Polisher has shut-off carbon brushes. When the carbon brushes wear down, the motor automatically shuts off to avoid damage.
The FLEX Orbital Polisher can easily do most of the work for which you’d normally rely on a rotary machine, and it’s safer! The dual action nearly eliminates the risk of burns or holograms. Plus, the large stroke of 8 mm allows the polisher to cover more area faster. A 9 ft. power cord allows you to work easily around most vehicles.
The FLEX Orbital Polisher has an adjustable bale handle on the top and a speed control on the side for easy access with your thumb. A speed trigger on the underside of the polisher allows you to gradually accelerate speed as needed. The FLEX Orbital Polisher packs all these features into less than 6 pounds!

Happy Easter to you my friend. I loved this video. I upgraded from the Porter Cable 7424 to this Flex 3401 and have never looked back. It truly is the Swiss Army knife of polishers. It took all of 5 minutes to get used to tendency to want to pull away due to the direct drive. But imo this actually has a side benefit of teaching proper technique of laying the pad down flat. Thanks for your honest review of this timeless machine.

I've had this machine for around 8-9 years. Accurate review, IMO. If you're doing a lot of cutting, this thing will plow through virtually anything. Doesn't care what pad/ abrasive is used. It keeps on going. This being said, it's a bit of a workout. I can definitely feel it in my back and shoulders, but I'm old. A younger person may not experience as much bodily drain. I use the smaller factory backing plate with ~5" pads. Admittedly, these days I rarely finish with it. It's a terrific buffer, no question, just be prepared for its operational constraints.

I bought a free spinning long throw polisher not long after the bigfoot first appeared. In my opinion, the only thing they are good for is finishing. The constant stalling on curves makes the job harder and longer and if you put a hard cutting pad on to try and do correction they stall even more making it very frustrating . Ive just bought the new version of the Flex VRG and it makes the job of buffing out a car much quicker and less frustrating although you do have to get used to the 'walking' effect of the force drive. Even keeping the pad flat they can still have moments where they want to walk but once you learn to live with it , you just kind of get used to it.

Imo forced rotation is useless if you have long throw and rotary. 15-21 throw machine corrects faster than any forced rotation da. Imo only thing that beats long throw is a rotary with large twisted wool pads but then you have lot more work to finish. I had mille and sold it and 3401 is so awfull with its vibration etc. Its like comparing synchronized and non synchronized gearbox, one is more demanding to use but once you master it, it is faster and more effective.
