I saw "Star Wars" in 1977 when it opened, and the audience was certainly diverse. Everyone was united in their love for something they'd never seen before, and _no one_ was complaining about lack of diversity. Now imagine George Lucas saying anything along the lines of "I didn't make this film for everybody, I made it for X." He actually said, "I made this movie for 12-year-old boys." Yes, like George, who grew up watching the original "Flash Gordon" serials(which are great and you can find them on RU-vid) and wanted to make something like that for the current audiences. There was no agenda, he just wanted to entertain everyone. Today's Hollywood is incapable of making films like that.

What the Grace Randolph's of the world don't understand is simply having diversity doesn't make something bad. Making diversity the centerpiece (like the Acolyte or The Eternals) at the expense of story telling makes something bad.

I don't watch either of those channels and can tell you that The Acolyte is bad television. Not just Star Wars television, but plain ole everything television. No major network would've put this on. If you are going to write a thriller; Make it thrilling. If you are going to write a mystery; Do not solve it in the first 10 minutes. Do they not do rough cuts of TV shows at LF? RANT: Every month I boot up Rotten Tomatoes, submit my reviews of the things I've watched but no more. It is all just so corrupt. My reviews on shows The Acolyte and Doctor Who are completely removed, I said nothing controversial, I gave my honest opinion and yet my reviews got taken down with no explanation and this is why I am grateful for you, Andre and co. Nerdrotic and Critical Drinker etc. as I am sick of the lies being propagated surrounding things like this and it needs calling out. They are just TV shows but if your opinion isn't positive on a show that is being suspiciously defended by the media, you don't get a say. The last time they did this I highlighted how ideology has ruined the things I once loved, it is goodbye to my efforts. It isn't the first time they have removed my reviews but it will be the last. Our voices are not welcome, so I am glad there are channels like yours out there that do stand up to this behaviour. I am so frustrated. The funny thing is, so many positive reviews are using words I cannot say but they are okay because of where they land politically. If that's all they care about, then we will rarely get good TV & film going forward, as all it takes to get people rushing to a show's defence now is that it aligns with them politically. That is not how you judge quality! My review of The Acolyte was pointing out errors in the timeline, the camera work, the script and so on but nah, too bad, you don't get a say, miss, you didn't say something inflammatory regarding the other side of the political isle, you get removed. This has gotten beyond ridiculous. I am a "woman of colour," aren't I the type you usually pander to? It's almost like it was never about our voices but rather theirs, proclaiming to the world how they are good people because they support the latest thing. I feel so let down and alone.

So I ran the numbers: Critical Drinker: 2,05 million subscribers. Nerdrotic: 1,05 million subscribers. That’s a grand total of 3 060 000 people. Now even if we assume that they all watch every video The Drinker and Nerdrotic uploads (which they don’t) *and* that they all convinced at least five people each to not watch the show (which would bring us up to a whopping 15 300 000 people) that still wouldn’t be anywhere *near* enough people to even put a dent in their supposed audience (to put things into perspective, it would be the equivalent of the entirety of Sweden and Ireland deciding to not watch the show). I mean if their show is so great, why didn’t the rest of the world watch it? Where’s this “modern audience” that they keep going on about? P.S why did I do this research? Simple, I was bored.

My friend was a massive Star Wars fan. He was part of the UK Mandalorian fandom doing a lot for charity and even got an invitation to Skywalker Ranch and met George Lucas himself. It was one of the best moments of his life, only beaten by his marriage and birth of his children. He's done with Star Wars. He saw the Acolyte and was so appalled he's packed away all his Star Wars stuff and no longer considers himself a fan. This is the audience they have lost. I was a fan for decades. I saw the original in the cinema as a kid and went 5 times. I even liked the prequal trilogy but didn't think it was as good as the original one. Then Disney released Phantom Menace and it was like watching New Hope with different actors. It had the exact same beats and situations, to the point I knew what was going to happen before it happened. Then Last Jedi happened and I was done. I never even saw Rise of Skywalker or the standalone films. I'd had enough. I was now a former Star Wars fan. There's a lot of us out there.

Accusing people of hate speech for criticising a TV show is worthy of mockery and should be dismissed out of hand. Thankfully almost no one is falling for it this time around.

I'm actually subscribed to Grace, since I like her "business hat" takes and watch Movie Math regularly. The problem is she is so heavily biased towards anything with girl boss vibes, that her reviews of that material are mostly useless, as all critical thinking goes out the window and she's just like a kid in a candy store. I genuinely believe her when she says she loved The Acolyte. The only exception to this that I'm aware of was the Rings of Power, which was so awful it was too much for even her. I remember a few years ago, think it was during a live stream, she said that she had recently rewatched Ghostbusters 2016 and it didn't hold up and she thought she was "caught up in the moment" or something like that. Being a critic, I would have thought she had noticed a pattern by now, but I guess we often are blind to our own shortcomings.

When will they listen to what the fans are saying? When will they learn no one cares for diversity, inclusion, and representation. The only thing we (the audience) want is a good storyline, good characters and character development, and not being talked down too or attacked

I'm pretty sure that I saw The Force Awakens, thought it was bad because Rey Palpatine was a Mary Sue female version of Luke Skywalker and typed that in as a question on youtube. I'm surprised Randolph's audience turned on her. She has her audience for a reason. If people don't like her takes, they wouldn't be her audience. Thus, for her to get backlash, it must mean a sharp turn from her previous positions.

As ideologues, people like Grace, are not watching for content. They watch with a checklist. So when the acolyte ticks many of the same boxes as Fallout, she tally's up the score and thinks "those bad people are definitely going to hate this show because they're so bad". She is not watching for story, for character development, for morality etc. people like that only see "us vs them" and they consume entertainment only for the sole purpose of determining whether something is on their side or the other side.
