I'm 2 mins in to this essay and although this is now a two year old video I just heard something very refreshing. Moondays big ups my friend! :D for knowing the difference between a synopsis (as you put it recap) and an essay (or for that matter retrospective), so many times I've seen what claims to be an essay (reptrospective, deepdive etc) and is literally just a summary of plot. Don't get me wrong here I'll watch the recap bit interested to see what jumps out to you as important enough to recap, just really nice to see there's more than just being told the plot of a film I've seen...again haha.
It's always so cool to hear people talk about Akira. It's one of those works of art that click with people on a deep level. You are a great communicator also, so I hope you make more videos about other works you love! Good job man!

i just finished reading akira and was trying to look some stuff up about it and found this vid which i apparently already watched right up until the “manga plot” section
So when I watched, & later read Akira I was addicted to painkillers, & I related heavily to Tetsuo. At the time I thought it was cool, & he was like my anime avatar. I still relate to Tetsuo, but I'm coming on two years sober off pills & I still feel he my anime avatar, but now I feel sad for him.

ack!!!! you are talking about the re-dub. pardon my french but the original dub had one of the teenage mutant ninja turtles cartoon voice actors acting it....... sound way better? i fu hate this dub
