The All-New EVH® 5150® Iconic® Series 

Just came here to shower some love for this amp. It actually does sound really good and very versatile, you can dial up really great clean tones as well as gain it up for some tasty lead work and for the price range it can’t be beat. All in all an excellent amp.

It’s not a bad sounding amp, it’s got a vibe to it. I’d have dialed it in a little differently but I feel the demo was supposed to be more Van Halen tone focused I guess.

I remember when the Original 5150's came out. Everyone said the same. Fizzy.. 😂. I had to listen to this through some good monitors this morning. Sounds pretty damn good. I think with eq'ing it will be pretty versatile. I am on the list. Looking forward to getting one.

I think it sounds killer...a lot of the engineers in the comment section here are hating on it because all they hear nowadays is polished eq'd to death tones...this amp is raw,plug in the guitar and play ,fuck all the nonsense post production shimmer

I think a lot of people were expecting this amp to sound like some kind of over the top modern high gain metal beast and they got their hopes up a little too high for what they assumed it was going to be. From what I can hear; it actually sounds really good, like something in between a Marshall JCM900 and a JCM2000, and just as good as either. 30 years ago there's no way you could find something brand new in this price range that would've sounded this good.

This amp sounds pretty great. Built in boosts, noise gate, reverb, cab sim out, and reduced output power switch is just a crazy amount of built in features.

I’ve had my Iconic for 3 days and this amp is amazing! I’m not trying to dial it in to sound like Eddie. The amp is very versatile and there no need to dial in a lot of gain to get a great lead sound on channel 2. I use a beautiful clean sound on channel 1. The boost works fabulous! I run a line out of the preamp out to a Boss ME70 into a JCM900 into Orange cabs. That way all my effects have a volume pedal so I can blend in modulation/delay effects into the Marshall while keeping the Iconic rock solid with a little bit of reverb. I love the reverb on the Iconic! Anyway, create your own sound with this amp, don’t try to make it sound predictable. The Iconic amp gives you everything you need to blaze into future guitar sounds…

I got the combo. It simply delivers the sound I was dreaming of. And: what an awesome video, great guitarist, killer sound.

It sounds exactly like I'd expect it to with the EQ settings, and pretty amazing to me for an affordable amp. Looking forward to hearing demos with a bit lower gain and more mid-forward, less scooped tone.

I never heard of it till I happened to walk in my local guitar shop and saw it, tried it out and knew I had to have it. Great amp.

I think people are missing the importance of that fizz. The "brown sound" was due largely in part to JBL's with aluminum dustcaps adding a shrill top end. This demo might not sound fantastic on it's own, but if they interspersed these sounds with backing tracks, I guarantee it would cut through and sit really well in a mix. I'm also confused as to how anyone could say this isn't high gain. This is way more saturated than Eddie ever really was. Whatever, I'm just glad to finally hear it, although I will certainly miss the videos from dumb RU-vidrs declaring it sucks/it's awesome from a time when nobody heard it.

Knowing that James Brown has worked on the iconic is a treat for the fans!

I have an original block letter 5150 that I still use. It’s wonderful. Never selling it. I also have the 15 watt lbx II for the modern EVH tone. I don’t know about this one. I think it was poorly recorded, I’m hearing some potential in the tone. I’ll wait and see.

James Brown did it again, sounds killer, tight and punchy.

I have it. In the store through a mesa 2x12, on 80 w its was outstanding. That was through an EVH strat humbucker. At home, through my over sized Stoneage 1x12 its good but a bit more midrange. So I think its key to have this paired with a bigger cabinet to get the most out of it. I also agree an EQ would help define the tones with that set up. It didnt seem an issue with the 2x12s but that guitar and pickup is very hot. My 2 cents are its great, affordable for a new amp. The clean sounds are good and that with the OD engaged is a very high gain channel. Ideally there would be 3 - clean (blue?), OD (green) and high gain (red). Excellent noise gate but only available on the Red channel so theres noise on the One channel when the gain is turned up. The XLR out recorded nicely and sounded quite natural. Made in China is always a question so well see how it does over longer term.

Its not my company, but would of been nice to have 2 or 3 more guitarists. Because evh and 6505 amps are well known for more than rock. Deathcore, metalcore, and djent would of finished this off. Still sounds great though! Hoping to make it my first full tube amp. I've always had solid state and I'm... 33 years old...

I prefer 5150 III as a modern hi gain amp for prog tone. And this new Iconic is a different thing. It's indeed iconic sounding amp with the spirit of Eddie Van Halen.

I traded in my dsl40CR to pick this up and been running a jackson ET7, USA PRO 2 Telecaster, a PRS SE, a 2003 dean vendetta 6.0 and they all sound good through it. Both green and red channels sound good, clean sounds good on green with distortion turned off. I have a few MXR pedals hooked to it and they all sound good, a few others like oceans 11 and Sletva, all sound good. I'm torn whether to buy an attenuator or not for the 40w combo though

I must admit I didn't like it when Burn was engaged, but did love it the rest of the time. Definitely going to head out next week and try the combo in person.

To all the internet idiots who are leaving negative comments here, I'm pretty sure none of you can play your instrument properly. It's one thing to say the sounds in the video are not for you. Nothing wrong with that, it might not be your cup of tea. But to many people this is the sound that shaped a decade of music and if people can make good old Roland cubes sound like magic and put them on huge records, I'm pretty sure with some tweaking this can sound really good as well. Please put some time into playing your guitar, rather than talking about "tone". I feel like most people on the forums and these idiots on yr comments don't have a clue about how to communicate your emotions through the sound. I don't think there's anything like bad tone. If it's appropriate for the message the music is supposed to send, then good for you. As the man himself said, "If it sounds good, it is good." I'd buy this amp in a heartbeat as it does sound good to me and I'm pretty sure with some tweaking I can get it to sound exactly like I want it to.

It sounded good to me, pretty tight and nice gain. Probably could use a low pass filter to remove some of those higher freq. it could use some more low mids and maybe around 3,2 khz as well, but than again, in the video, the mids knob is a little rolled back

Bought the combo. Sounds killer! The shame about EVH is that the official demo videos sound like all treble and no body, but seriously the thing kicks ass Sounds amazing in E standard and E flat with a superstrat and LP. Chunky, full, rich searing gain With an OD in front and (optional) an EQ in the loop it can definitely fit 7 string and baritone guitars, sounds absolutely nasty. Sold a DSL20 and Katana 50 for this and I have no regrets whatsoever. Great house and apartment amp.

Distortion sounds fizzy. Excited for this video but I´ll wait for further reviews.

6505+ forever!

After listening to many demos I came to the conclusion that to get a good sound from this amp a person may need to spend some time with the amp to dial in the tone needed. No one can complains or deny the skill of this player in the demo, yes he plays very well, but the problem is the fizziness of the sound. Not the player.

I think there are some people down here that were expecting the second coming of high gain amps. This amp sounds incredibly good for the price point. Hell,.. it sounds good at any point. Honestly though,...the real test,...?..?.. is in the hand. The feel. We all know as guitarists certain amps just respond a certain way in the hand that feels "right". Now Ola demo'd this thing and I was floored. Floored at the face melting amount of gain on tap. The green channel,...which is the "tame" channel,....has more than enough "chug" for my metal needs. The red??? It's a bit fizzy,.....but I think usable I certain big room situations if dialed correctly,...and depending on your taste in tone. All in all?? Just from a far?? I think it's gonna be a winner. Now ,.....durability and longevity is still to be determined. Thats huge here. So we'll just have to wait and see. At this point though,....I'll give it a B+ just based on hearing it on YT. Not bad at all.

It will be fun to see how people use this amp, can’t wait to hear one in person. Some folks really want to hate this amp, the new Gibson? 😂

I just got the combo.. it sounds exactly like they set out to do.. though I'm having trouble cleaning it up. There's a metric shiat ton of quiet 'fuzz' behind the notes. For example... Try to play sweet child and it sounds really 'dirty'. I have the gains way down too.

Are these enclosures mdf or multiplex?

It has an interesting gain characteristic, does not remind me of any of the previous 5150’s.
