The Allman Brothers Band playing live at the legendary Beacon Theatre in New York City on March 26 in 2003. With original video! www.discogs.com/The-Allman-Br... www.amazon.com/Allman-Brother...
As I ate tacos one night with Ron White, yes Tater Salad, I asked him if he liked the Allman Brothers Band since his show had ABB Fillmore East as house music. He replied, “There’s two types of music, The Allman Brothers and then everything else!”
I had the great fortune of spending many a warm summer's night under the stars watching this great band perform, nothing else has ever been able to give me that feeling since.
Sure if by “closest” you mean better. The Herring/Trucks/Haynes lineups were much better than the original group. And im quite sure they didnt spend 40 years trying to mimic 2-3 years no matter how great anyone thinks they were. And Tedeschi sucks. DTB was much better.
@@davehodges8898 oh man. i used to see the DTB a ton in the late 90's and early 2000's. i lived in boston and used to see them all over new england. the ticked stubs used to say "jazz fusion madness" and jimmy herring would sit in. those shows were sizzling. i don't listen to TTB either. They bore me to tears.
Yeah but at first sight and hearing Derek blew Gregg Butchie and Warren AWAY! Greggs tale about that tells how Mr Haynes got put in his place seeing Derek, maybe he was 11yrs old, Warren is like OK now let’s play some Allman Brothers and the kid knew everything!!! It’s humorous listening to Gregg tell the story! Have you seen the video of Derek at 23 burning Layla??!! OMG unbelievable!
@@henryporter_001 Warren wrote Old before my time and Soulshine two great Allman Brothers songs and also either wrote or co-wrote over 20 others. Duane Allman only wrote one song Little Martha. America's greatest band the original Allman Brothers. Tied for second best American band this version of The Allman Brothers plus several other bands.
Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks took an already legendary band and launched it into the stratosphere! Will we ever hear a rock band as good as this again?
5 of 7 of the fellas on the stage are still rocking. I say get Dereks lil brother Duane in his Uncle Butchs seat and get the Brothers back together for a summer of fun;)))) 🍄
@@Nicky-Michael They did get together for a 50th anniversary concert in 2020 (with Duane Trucks on drums, along with Jaimoe and Marc Q.). I have the DVD, and it's an amazing show. But yeah, the idea of that band touring for a summer is quite appealing. I don't think it will happen, but I would travel a long way to attend one of the shows if it did.
I was also lucky enough to see the original lineup in 1971 1972 Macon coliseum at 10 yrs old and yes this is pretty darned right Go Allmans also was at Greg’s Funeral Rose Hill Cemetary Macon Ga never forget!
I got into les brers 8 years ago when I was 12. I am 20 now, have seen Trucks 4 times, the mule 5 times and Otiel and friends twice. I can easily say that this band has had one of the biggest impacts on who I am, I start everyday with “it’s not my cross to bear” Thank you for enlightening me day in and day out
Warren solo at the end of Wasting time no more is incredible out this world, mind blowing and deeply soulful...Could not be played no better than that...There was no air in between every stroke or lick in that solo like many others he would later come along and master!!!!!!
If ABB had no past and this band just popped up oñ the scene would they be loved like no other as they are? To me I'd say thank God for them..... Ya''ll that question is on you.
I remember the first time I watched this. It was the year it was released, and Concert TV was playing it. I was in my early 20's. I was flipping through the channels and waiting for my dose to kick in. It came on about the same time I started tripping. Now I *never* wanted to be inside when I was tripping, let alone looking at a screen, but I couldn't take my eyes off ears off Derek Trucks. I ended up spending the next hour plus watching this while tripping, and on the phone having the most incredible conversation with my at-the-time girlfriend. If I'm honest, I had heard minimal Allman Brothers at that point, and was very into the Phish/String Cheese Incident scene. Ever since, Trucks has been my favorite guitarist, and this amongst my favorite live performances. By the by, I lucked out the next year. Went to see the Dead at Alpine Valley at the Wave Your Flag tour (2004), and they were touring with Warren Haynes. He opened with an hour long mostly acoustic solo set, then played with them all night. I'm getting misty eyed now thinking about those days. I'm now almost 40, married, and raising kids. I wouldn't trade what I have now for anything in the world, but thinking back to those years (for me 1999 to maybe 2005) is bittersweet. I'm sure some of you will understand, if you read this far. God bless and God speed.
I was at this show. I usually buy tickets for about a dozen shows during their Spring Residency at The Beacon Theater. They're just phenomenal, can't get enough ✌️
Allman Brothers are the best band I’ve ever heard and this might just be the tightest and most professional version of the band. Derek Freakin’ Trucks!
Mr Act of Wisdom: No, not Derek Trucks, but Derek M.F-ing Trucks Dang That tone That phrasing “ it’s real easy to play the guitar.......once you know ........how! “ 😁
Like no other? Well, Duane wasn't bad, and though it's immeasurable, felt more soulful, but that's just my take. Lowell George wasn't too shabby either; which isn't to take anything away from Derek, he's filling some mighty shoes.
@@maxverstappen2713 It's a fools errand to compare virtuoso musicians as, at a certain point, it's personal resonance and taste for each of us. Of course, that doesn't apply to Hendrix, who sits atop a pyramid, ever shining. :)
1-1 Ain't Wastin' Time No More 1-2 Black Hearted Woman 1-3 Statesboro Blues 1-4 Woman Across The River 1-5 A Change Is Gonna Come 1-6 Maydell 1-7 Come & Go Blues 1-8 Rockin' Horse 1-9 Desdemona 1-10 Don't Keep Me Wondering 1-11 Midnight Rider 1-12 Soulshine
I've seen them dozens of times in the USA and Europe, each member of this band ( was ) is for some them the greatest ever at there particular position in this band, no other band comes close to the vibe, the feel, the day to day life story that is in each and every song , miss this band, The Goats of Blues Rock n Roll Jam Band.
There’s so much that’s so flippin incredible here. Gregg’s voice and the way you see him look at Derrick and grin a little, Butch driving the freight train as I’ve heard it called and still coming with that cute little grin occasionally, Oteil coming into his own in a band in which he probably would have never placed himself...and so much more. The best of the best.
18 years ago...Greg still singing strong. He is (was) the heart of the band. Of course, the rest of the band is off the charts as well. Great way to spend a few hours.
Duane Trucks new drummer for awesome band Widespread Panic. Been seeing them since 92. Miss the ABB summer shows at Deer Creek in late ‘90s, so awesome w Dickey
First time listening to this set; now over and over! Derek hits on a spiritual plain with Desdemona. The band is extremely tight and Warren , well is Warren! I've been listening since I was 13 with the first album in 1969. Thank you for all these years.
@@HFTONE So lucky. Music is medicine, it heals, connects and loves unconditionally! Thank goodness I’ve lived long enough to experience many since the early 70’s.. much love✌️
@@glennathea You are so right about that. Music has been my medicine since the late 60s and it still is. I've been fortunate enough to have seen the brothers numerous times. Had film confiscated at one show, but escaped with a lot more over the years. But those are just pictures. It's the music that heals the soul, and I believe that it will be listened to 100 years from now. It's just that good. The Fillmore East album is in the library of congress for cryin out loud! How many bands can say that?! ✌️
Saw them in July in Michigan of 2003. My daughter wasn’t born yet (3 weeks later) but was doing flips in the womb. She evidently didn’t like the show. I thought it was great.
I PURCHASED THIS D.V.D. UPON RELEASE.... NEVER CONCIDERED ANYBODY COMING CLOSE TO DUANE A. ANDDICKIE BETTS. GUITAR WORK .WARREN HAINES.....DEREK TRUCKS IS AS GOOD....DARE I SAY EVENBETTER. I HOPE THIS STATEMENT CHALLENGES OTHERS TO SEE THIS REMARKABLE SHOW .IT IS A MUST SEE!!!!!!..
I happy to say I was at a few of these shows back in 2003. Warren HAYNES, Allan Woody and the great Slide Guitarist Derek Trucks. My favorite show I seen live was Watkins Glen back in 1973..
@@Oriolesfun I didn't realize for a while that it was originally recorded as a Gov't Mule song, before the ABB put it on their "Hittin' the Note" album. I have to say though that I like the ABB version better.
Just discovered your treasure-trove all-ABB channel. We were there for Winterland shows and bought Filmore East almost the day it was released. Still strong 50-yrs later. Thanks..
Greg Allman sitting 10 ft away, I'd say Derek has confidence in his ability. ....and he should. This version of the band is strong....7 masters on that stage.
It would appear there are some silly haters commenting on drb and ttb. Try evolving.with it. It's sad to see people stuck in the past and not embracing the beautiful music that Abb started. We are blessed to still have groups of this caliber to listen to and.see. put down the hatorade and jam
Yeah I saw them at the Wharf in 2006. I’m 50 years old, but really didn’t know anything about them. It was freezing, and I was too high, so I left. One of the greatest disappointments of my life, to miss that show.
the peach. there was a seductive radio ad for eat a peach after duane passed. a girl slobbering over a peach, and she says, eat a peach. it was a message, to remember duane, dont hate the circumstance.
No bout a'dought it 😄 Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes were INCREDABLE .. It's just sad that Dickie Betts ( RIP ) wasn't there; after all even Duane Allman once said that Dickie was the best lead guitarist from the band
EVEN IF YOU ARE SITTING DOWN WHILE WATCHING THIS CONCERT FASTEN YOUR SEAT BELT ... AT SONG 4 DO NOT REMOVEIT UNTIL SONG 9 ALSO REMOVE YOUR SOCKS. OTHERWISE THEY WILL BE knocked off....
