Greetings from Florida, USA! I have been to Mogao and Yungang, but not to Dazu. Amazed by how few people there are, indeed a great enhancement of one’s experience. Fantastic video.
I have only heard of the Dazu Rock Carvings. From your video, I saw the sheer scale of it, which is really shocking. After watching a lot of your videos, I found that you are interested in Chinese Taoism and Buddhism. This is really interesting.
So much history in one place, it's just breathtaking, China it's unbeliavable. Another amazing video Nick, thank you for showing us this amazing places!
I'm so surprised you mentioned Liang Sicheng. I followed the Linliang Road route and completed a tour of ancient buildings in southwestern and central Shān xi.
As Chongqing properly is one of the most popular destinations for chinese tourists, I guess in summer hollidays this place have to be a bit crowded at least
Yeh it will be much busier in the peak season. But most people who visit Chongqing (the city) won't make the journey out here I guess, no train links, a 2-hour bus ride one way...
A very interesting place indeed. We would certainly like to see more of the artwork and a bit less of your talking head. Please try to do more voiceover and less "Look at me me me". Thanks.
Nick, at 3:17, a statue shows its fingers. I saw a fine stick or iron wire in its right little finger. Most likely you did not see the same thing. Yet it means a lot to Chinese history. It might worth to visit the same site again with an ultra-sound instrument to detect whether the stone carvings were hollow. Or to tap the belly of those statues with your fingers to hear echoes which confirms hollowness of the statues.
