Great Ira Glass interview. "It's like you want lightning to strike every week. And to do that, you have to wonder around in the rain, a lot." - Ira Glass (minute 3:45)

I think Ira Glass is the first person I can think of that I would actually want his autograph. Such a real, warm, funny person.

This American Life and got me through many road trips back and forth from CT to FL. My daughter and wife were fitted with headphones so I got the car radio. Thank you Ira, for many miles of entertainment, of various subjects.

Love the guy who joked that even if the show has an elitist hipster perspective, at least the stories are being told in depth. So true - people can’t help who they are or how they come across, but we can all aim for nuance and compassion. Love Ira 💕

Ira Glass definitely has young sounding voice, if that makes sense. I really thought he was in his early 30s--just based on the sound of his voice alone.

Wow. Ira is so personable and real here. Also, I've listened to TAL for years but never bothered looking up a photo of him. Must be neat to be a radio celebrity - you can lay low as long as you stay quiet!

I love this plucky young interviewer. She made it very enjoyable. She's real and seemed to unabashedly made inquiries that might have made other interviewers a little nervous.

Indeed! I was about to comment on exactly that, but then saw that you'd already done so! Such a low-key introduction. Surely he would have been blown away to know what course it took and how much of a juggernaut in popular it would become!

ira was so polished considering the interviewer was seemingly uninvolved. What to learn from this is an interviewer shouldn't have a strict format to follow? She's waiting to ask her question as opposed to engage and respond to the response to her questions.

It's so ironic because Ira is a Master Interviewer. I LOVE when he laughs with his interviewee and interjects, showing he is right with them.
@BassByTheBay
@BassByTheBay Год назад
To be fair, there's a big difference between recording a conversation to be subsequently edited for broadcast and doing a live interview. When it's live, you want to make sure you keep the audience (and interviewee) engaged, and you typically have a time limit, so you want to make sure you get certain questions in, sometimes in a certain order. And it's not like she's just checked out; she does respond to some of Ira's specific remarks. Conducting a live interview is tougher than it looks.

great talk.. I'm procrastinating while watching ira glass talk and I realized that he had a very similar reaction to his name/show being on television as his 'now wife', when he mentioned her name in on letterman

The sad part is....had they done this interview on the set of Between Two Ferns, the format would have been better with whatever this was. Why are they sitting like this? Who arranged this stage?

That's what I always thought. I was quite surprised when I first looked him up on Wikipedia and saw his picture there. That was after I'd been listening to This American Life for a while. I'd always imagined him as a much younger person. (If you happen to be reading this, Ira: Sorry! ;-)) Anyway, he appears to be a really cool person.

His nasal tone and speech patterns make me think of Arnold Stang, a comedian from the early days of television. Arnold was also the voice of "Top Cat" the Hanna Barbera cartoon.

I thought the best show he ever produced on "TAL" had to do with the correction of the Michael Daisy's "fabulations" (Retraction 03.16.2012) that were broadcast on a prior "TAL".

Yeah, they were very embarrassed and disappointed in themselves about the Mike Daisy thing. But the followup show was really outstanding. I wrote to them because I thought it was bound to happen at some time when you've been doing it as long as they have.

31:21 - The nearly silent audience and the blank-faced interviewer reveal the sizable age gap between Ira and the audience. Those of us who are old enough to have watched OG Star Trek instantly know what a tricorder is would undoubtedly chuckle at the joke. 🖖

I saw about ten episodes of this boring show, I think the themes and topics that it covers are uninteresting and unimportant.... There are many shows that are FAR more interesting: "This is life" with Lisa Ling, or many others, literally any other show is more entertaining and informative!!
