You get to see who your real friends are when they actually show that they care about your mental health, I told my friends and only a few actually ask me how I'm doing every once in a while.

i've got depression and anxiety and a little bit aspergers, there was no problem with that every one acted normal..until i told them, and suddenly i had no friends left. even my bestfriend coudn't confirm if she still wanned to be friends with me anymore. so i started over, i've got new friends and 3 new bestfriends. the best part is, once i told them they didn't run away or push me down, they supported me instead! my old friends started to bully me a bit cuz I left them or something like that, but it's all right, now I know there are people who have my back and that care about me!

There are so many comments on here saying that she is just a drug addict, anxiety is just in your head, etc., and it just makes me sick. Mental illness is REAL, and I will agree that if possible, going without medication is a good option, but for some people, it's not possible. I had to be put on medication because I could not leave the house without having a panic attack. And panic attacks are not just overreactions. When I panic, I lose all control of my body. My mind wants everything to stop, but it won't. I fall to the ground, start shaking and writhing, hyperventilate, cry and scream more than a newborn baby, and just lay there, helpless until someone comes to help me. They can go on for hours at a time, and during those hours, if I had any muscle control, I would kill myself to stop the feeling. It's like half of my brain just wants to relax but the other half thinks that the world is going to end. And I'm not exaggerating. I had to be put on medication to stop this.

+Daisy Jo I'm very confused about your comment. Yes anxiety is real, and yes I have it. Trust me- it is not just me believing everything people tell me. I'm like the least gullible person ever. I've even had several brain MRI's which have shown the difference in my brain to a healthy brain. I've also had blood tests showing my cortisol levels being dangerously high. I'm no "sheep." I have anxiety.

What the hell is up with the states? If this is what it is like to get prescription refills, I feel so sorry for you guys. Especially if the doctor and pharmacist are really like that. My pharmacist is amazing, helps me a lot with questions and concerns, will call my doctor himself if he needs to, just the best. This is why I like the medical in Canada, I never have to worry about getting my important medications.

I call any pharmacy all the time to ask about interactions between pills (ours are open 24 hours) and then get them to deliver my refills. You don't have free delivery on your meds in the us? Our pharmacy charges 5 bucks delivery if you want non-prescription items or free if you have a script with the other stuff you want. I guess Canada has solved that anxiety issue. Don't ever ask a doctor over a pharmacist about drug interactions between meds or between meds and natural remedies (also important)....doctors only deal with what they prescribe so aren't as knowledgeable as a pharmacist.
@grievingmom
@grievingmom 8 лет назад
not only that, but Shoppers Drug Mart here gives you a pager and they will buzz you when it's ready so you aren't waiting there forever...of course, you can also pre-order on their automated line using your refill code too....

List of the worst things my family say despite me telling them several times that it's offensive: -think on the positive and you won't have anxiety or depression! -maybe try a hobby to get your mind off of things? -you need to learn how to control yourself -get yourself together -maybe if you did (*certain thing*) you wouldn't be so sad! -you're to young to have depression or anxiety -this is all in your head -your life is fine why are you depressed?

I don't have anxiety but I do need prescriptions for other things and putting them on automatic refills is awesome! I get texts when I'm about 2 weeks from running out and I just text back "refill" and they text back when it's done (usually within 1-2 days max) and it lets me know how many refills are left before I need to see a doctor again. Pretty good deal because I am very forgetful even though you'd think I would remember to get more pills.

I work in a pharmacy and it bothers me that they portray anyone who works back there as an evil person. It's also the patient's responsibility to be aware of when they need refills and to check and see if they need an appointment.
@saralee7284
@saralee7284 8 лет назад
Exactly! My brother is a pharmacist in the pharmacy and he gets crap sometimes from the patients. They get angry at the pharmacy closing for thirty minutes for the workers to have a lunch break, while he's sitting there eating a peanut butter sandwich. Sometimes people need to understand that they are humans as well.
@banandababa

@NotAnotherKuromi
@NotAnotherKuromi 8 лет назад
I agree that people need to be aware of their refills but for someone with anxiety or depression they can keep putting it off. Obviously not all pharmacy workers are bad, I assume you aren't, but some are. I do wish the video has focused more on the system though, like I can't have enteric coated tablets but I keep collecting my prescription & have them, there should be somewhere where you can make a note of that for all future pharmacists to see. I have a lot of repeats but they keep mysteriously coming off my list, so every two weeks when I order it cant be given until a doctor gives it the say so, not just a tick but actually looks into my history etc to determine it is ok. Finally there are some pharmacists who move like they are walking through treacle. It is annoying when a person without anxiety has to wait even longer due to the person just moving slowly, I imagine this must be much more irritating & unpleasant for a person with anxiety.
@pitiyankee20

People don't understand that its really hard when you have to fill 800 rxs and have everyone want theirs in 10 min. We try our hardest to help our patients and get them out and home as fast as possible but we are human too. And I cant pull a refil out of my but and loose my job just because you forgot.

From a pharmacy student's perspective, we're just as stressed out and frustrated about getting you your meds as you are. We cannot LEGALLY "help you out" when you're trying to get an anxiety medication, as much as we know you need it, because they are controlled substances. I'm sorry, but you really do need to plan the appointment ahead, and if that has to fall through for other priorities, you just have to deal with it. It's a harsh reality, but it is the reality we live in until people start taking mental health more seriously (i.e. by allowing you to make up the exam so you don't miss your appointment). We're fighting just as hard as you are, and a lot of *us* have anxiety and depression too, so don't think we don't know how you feel. Direct your anger at the right people.

@freddierogers2019

Sara Angelia Which portrayed that all pharmacies are dicks about it, but that's just not true. So many of us do our damnedest every day to try to get our patients what they need as quickly as possible, but we're working with other healthcare professionals, insurance companies, other patients, and lord knows what else (technical difficulties, armed robberies of controlled substances - I could go on). Those prescriptions can often be abused, so we can't just hand them out like candy. It's unsafe and irresponsible. Sorry, I started ranting - it gets very frustrating when you get blamed for something that you're trying so hard to resolve, dealing with a ton of different factors all the while. I'm very glad your current healthcare provides you with same-day appointments for this sort of thing (that's how it should be for everyone for any condition, in an ideal world), but not everyone has the same access. Not every area even has enough people working in the healthcare industry to accommodate last minute needs like that - and it's not a wonder why, with all the backlash healthcare professionals get for trying to help people. I'm sorry again if I sound jaded. It really is all worth it for the people we do get to help and the people who do appreciate the work we put into our jobs. But there are plenty of other people out there who simply don't understand what it takes to provide medical care at each step in the process, and where they need to start taking responsibility for their own health. There's only so much we can do.
@PiaAve
@PiaAve 8 лет назад
***** Yeah, basically everyone in the video was mean or doing a bad job, and it's really sad because there are so many people working their hardest to help others and then this is how they are portrayed :( My old doctor was really horrible, and I ended up going two years with him being difficult and saying things like "It's probably mentally, just wait a while and it'll probably get better" We ended up having to change doctor, and the new one took me much more seriously and figured out what was wrong. She is a wonderful wonderful lady :) I've never really had a problem with our pharmacies, everyone there are nice and do their best to help everyone (ops I ended up ranting as well..) I have a question though, in the video she had to wait very long for them to get her medication (15 and then 45 minutes was it?) why did it take so long? O.o

I am NOT a fan of this video, especially since I suffer from 2 different anxiety disorders and 3 different types of depression, AND I work in a pharmacy. 1. She should seek psychological therapy. Learning how to cope is very beneficial, leaving the benzodiazepines as a last resort. 2. She could try an SSRI, which is very good for managing both anxiety and depression. 3. She needs a new doctor... dear lord. This is not "relatable," and I'm disappointed in buzzfeed for making this video. It is BEYOND an unhealthy example for those of us who struggle with anxiety.

Because most insurances won't allow the pharmacy to bill them until 1 or 2 days prior. I have one medication that the insurance company will not pay for until the day after the last pill should have been taken. I am mobility challenged and do not have a vehicle, this causes many issues for me, especially coupled with the fact that monthly visits require monthly copays which add to the cost of getting medication.
@bethanybrengan9795
@bethanybrengan9795 8 лет назад
Because with a lot of medications you have a limited number of refills and your doctor has to write you a new prescription before you can get any more. Many doctors won't write a prescription for new refills until you come in for an appointment, and as she explains in the video, she tried to schedule an appointment but she had to cancel because of a geology test. This happens a lot. Some doctors/pharmacies are nice enough to give you "emergency refills," but I think that really depends on their individual policies and the type of medication. (Also, good luck if your doctor happens to be out of town or is bad at checking messages.)

Katie Johnson I'd laugh, but this isn't a funny issue and things aren't as cut and dry as you would make it seem. The guidelines you're throwing out only apply to certain types of insurances. I've been forced to wait for prescriptions to be called in for the stupidest of reasons, including getting caught up in an internal feud in my former doctor's office where he refused to let anyone else call in scripts for his patients and I needed a new script while he was out if town for his daughter's wedding. Had to go to ER instead, which cost me $65 plus meds.

Guys please be responsible. Schedule your next appointment before leaving the doctor's office. Count your pills and set up alarms for 5, 3 and the last day before you run out. Better schedule before than right the moment you run out. If youre in school still, you can ask the head nurse to keep one or two pills for emergencies. When doing your budget prioritize your pills as much as you can and leave that in a jar somewhere. One missed day can set you back two or three, consistency is key. If youre worried about dependency ask your doctor, some meds tend to create one. Take care of yourselves, because if you don't, nobody else will.

one important thing is that people with mental health disorders (specifically anxiety related) can't just quit their meds cold turkey or they can become extremely sick from withdrawal. the med she's on seems to be a short-term reliever, rather than the common meds which are meant to have long term and lasting affects on the chemical makeup of the brain. the part of the video where she is panicking in the bathroom because she doesn't have her meds is unrealistic. in reality, she might have collapsed and had to have gone to the hospital due to withdrawal. if this video is representative of a short-term instant anxiety reliever (which btw are highly addictive and I don't recommend them) then her reaction makes more sense, as she might be reliant on quick fixes from her meds and not taking it wouldn't cause her to go into withdrawal and be sick.
@katalystkatapatheticalyssa5987
If it's something like Effexor I've heard the withdrawals are horrible. Some meds have extremely short half lives. Given she takes it in the morning (once a day), I think it's less likely to be a benzo med.

Buzzfeed, please get clearance to visit a pharmacy for a day and shadow a pharmacist/tech. Then make a video about what it's like from that side. Everyone thinks it should be so easy. They walk up with their prescription, while 100 prescriptions are already in process, but there's no one else standing there so they think it's just them. Then they walk off, and lo and behold there's something wrong with the prescription, and their insurance isn't on file, and we have to call the doctor to clarify something - or maybe the doctor's handwriting is literally illegible so we have to call. You bend over backwards, making calls to doctors, calling the patient, clarifying nonexistent "allergies" that the patient put on file - all these things hold up the prescription and make it difficult to put it through the queue. Then, at the end of it, the patient is mad because "it took so long." It's frustrating :/ We feel like we should get a 'thank you' for all the hard work, but too often we get a scoff and angry, rolled-eyes. There are good patients, too, but unfortunately videos like the one you made here perpetuate the expectation that pharmacies should be quick dispensaries, and that everything is easy from our side, and that we don't care. Also, we always fill generic if possible... at least, in this state, it's illegal to try to fill for the brand if filling for the generic is a possibility (sometimes the doctor specifies that the brand must be filled, in which case we'd have to make yet another call to change that).

That's literally the worst, when you call to refill and suddenly have to get a doctors approval. THEN you can't get in to see the doctor until like a week later, but then you don't have pills for a week, and then you start to withdrawal. And then my anxiety gets worse because I'm like "am i addicted to these? is this hurting me? will I not be able to stop taking these when I want to?" and then you see the doctor for literally 2 minutes and get a refill then do it all again a month later.

Some people in the comment section don't seem to get that anxiety is a disease and sometimes people cannot cope with it without medication. Sure some people can find relief in yoga, diets, exercise etc. But some people need medication. Just like some people have asthma and need their medication. Same goes for anxiety. Unless you have severe anxiety you won't understand how vital medication can be. It isn't a bad thing, it isn't an addiction. It's a requirement to be able to function. I'd rather take my medicine and be stable than be drug free and hectic.

If your therapist treats you like that, *GET A NEW THERAPIST.* As someone who has dealt with panic attacks in the past, this was painful to watch - she had no safety nets in place. You should be able to call your therapist to get a refill, you should be able to call them to have an emergency session (even if just over the phone), the fact that she had to schedule an appointment to see him so far off tells me she wasn't seeing him regularly and he might have just been a general practitioner... if you have anxiety YOU SHOULD BE SEEING AN ACTUAL THERAPIST... pills don't actually fix anything!!! :( you should NOT harass the pharmacist, and you should NOT wait until the last minute to refill your prescription... things like that only add to anxiety :(

I have anxiety and ADHD as well, and while I don't need written prescriptions for my Lexapro (for anxiety) refills, I do for my Adderall (ADHD). Every month. And sometimes it takes more than a week just to get a signed prescription from my doctor, so it just adds up and makes it an awfully anxious time when I forget to do so in advance. And it makes me incredibly anxious if I have to go a day or two or more without my Adderall because it affects my work, my sleep, my everything. I'm not even comfortable driving without it. And then there's the price. The insurance I currently have only pays for brand name, which is still a whopping $200+ price tag- for 30 days. Thankfully there's generic, but it's still around $80. It's anxiety inducing thinking that I could be made broke by prescriptions that I need. And then of course all the human interactions can be nerve wracking, particularly talking on the phone. So yeah, absolutely accurate. Of course, everyone has different experiences, but particularly for those with anxiety, we all relate to this at least in some way.

spot on! Anxiety Disorder is a true chemical imbalance in the brain. It can bring on panic attacks that require hospitalization. It's a very real thing. Sure - putting off Dr visits that you need, to get the prescription that is vital to your sanity, makes no sense! But it really is part of the Disorder. BTW!!! Going off of some of these medications can cause psychotic episodes!! (look up Seroquil effects of quitting cold turkey!!) If you've ever lived with someone for years before medication and years afterwards. You know without a shadow of a doubt this is real!

It just depends on how busy the pharmacy is. If you bring in your prescription and they're not busy, they usually say that it will take about 15 minutes.

It depends. If you drop off your order it takes much longer, but if you call ahead you can usually go up to the counter and they will have it already filled.

Story of my life! And I take 4 different prescriptions, which inconveniently never need to be refilled at the same time. So I feel like I'm always at the pharmacy picking up meds or at the doctor for follow up appointments.

Aww thanks Buzzfeed for making healthcare workers look like unfeeling evil robot people. Great job there. I'm betting a video about what its really like working in a pharmacy isn't in the works. Imagine what its like to suffer from anxiety and work in a place where people literally scream at you because they don't want to wait 15 minutes and don't understand even when explained to why there is a delay in getting a med.

As someone who works in a pharmacy, don't wait until you're out to get a refill. We might be out of it and you're just screwing your self. And unless you have refills on file there's nothing we can do.

Zoloft takes 3 months for max effects, but if you don't feel any better your doctor should switch you to another SSRI, like Prozac. Then if that doesn't work try Effexor or switch to Wellbutrin. People love their BUPs!!!

Try calling your doctor. Not every pill works for everyone. Sometimes you need a different pill or a higher dosage.

I'm a pharmacy assistant and this is straight BS. Trust that my number one agenda is to get you and your prescription out of my face ASAP. Problem is everybody and their mom and dad needs a refill on their god-knows-what and they called before you. We're filling medicine not sandwiches so give us a bluddy break. Lol, end rant.
@alter946
@alter946 8 лет назад
As a pharmacy assistant myself, I agree with everything you said. Those who work in the pharmacy want to get you out of the pharmacy with your medicine just as fast as you want to be out, but it takes time to fill a prescription and quality check everything because we don't want to mess up when it comes to medication. Otherwise, you're just going to come back and blame us when something goes wrong. And for the record, we always give generic unless the patient wants the brand name, because of insurance issues. Also, I understand how getting a doctor's approval for medicine can be annoying, trust me, we find it annoying too, as it is time consuming and just leaves everyone unhappy, but there are certain laws in place to ensure that medication isn't being abused, so our hands are tied too. We understand that you want your medication asap, just be understanding that we need time to do our job because we don't want to be rushed and potentially mess up your prescription.

+GureiOokami normally I'm sure she is fine with getting it but clearly she was actually having a panic attack. She probably didn't have anything against the pharmacist normally. It's not easy for either side.
@alter946
@alter946 8 лет назад
I agree, it's not easy for either side. We all experience the world differently and we have different perceptions of what is important and what is not. That being said, my comment was meant to be a general grievance I have as a pharmacy assistant. I wasn't directing the comment towards the person in the video. For all I know she could just be a representation and she herself does not actually have panic attacks, or maybe she really does suffer anxiety in real life. I have no way of knowing for sure and therefore I was not addressing her. I'm just tired of customers asking me "Wtf is taking so long?" and then getting angry at me when I try to explain the situation. When a customer is yelling at me at the counter demanding I fill the prescription faster I can't physically do that since I'm standing there being yelled at. It's simply unproductive for both sides. Of course there are pleasant and understanding customers, too, and I appreciate them very much, but most of the time it feels like it's of the former variety.

Also waiting for ur insurance to authorize that your prescription is hell. It's basically your insurance saying "we're gonna have 2 think about it first." And of course it takes at least 2 weeks 4 them 2 make up their minds and by then u are a zombie in lots of pain and so extremely sick from the withdrawls.

Lol you can't auto refill control substance drugs like those. They can easily be abused. You need a prescription every month or every other depending on how strict the doctor is.

For regular medications yes but any controlled medication like anxiety meds need a prescription every month because of the abuse potential
@sarahschouveller1993
@sarahschouveller1993 8 лет назад
Not sure how it is where you are but where I am, you are all correct. Here it works like this: if you're on auto-refill for a controlled substance or a prescription with abuse potential, the pharmacy will go to refill it, see it needs a Dr. authorization for refill, then they call/fax/email the Dr., the doctor says "yep go ahead" and then they fill it. So they consult with your doctor each month or each time you run out of your med, however often that may be, and then they fill it. Sometimes takes a few extra days, but it gets done without seeing anyone. Here only one physical per year is covered completely by insurance so typically, as long as your doctor sees you once per year for a physical, they'll re-up your prescriptions in the meantime without seeing you.

I know this video is specifically about anxiety medication, but you can definitely draw parallels to birth control. Due to the kind of birth control I take, it can legally only be given three weeks worth at a time (why I don't know this is not a drug anyone would be interested in buying/selling/abusing). Last year, I scheduled to pick it up on a holiday not realizing it was a holiday and I missed a pill. That one day caused a 4 month long period, intense mood swings (suicidal thoughts, delusions), daily vomiting for months, dizziness, fainting, etc. Over the counter birth control anyone?

Basicly safer then advil, but with more personalized side effects. I understand speaking with your doctor when changing brands/use age, but it shouldn't require a prescription ever single time. You can't even use it to make meth.
