7:27 "Even the fuel cap looks good, even though you almost never look at it except when you're filling the car up with gas" Doug, on a V12 I think that fuel cap is going to get looked at quite a lot...
Tenzin Smith Apparently you don’t know many rich people, I do. Most people with that kind of money think it’s beneath them to pump their own fuel. That’s a job for an attendant.
@@armadillolover99 😂 that's cute. I've been to koenigsegg and Bugatti rallys and everyone pumped their own gas. I don't know who "you know" but there are different types of people.
Aiden Brantley Yes, there are different types of people. You’re talking about the types of people at a Koenigsegg rally generally real enthusiasts who care a lot for their cars, I’m talking about the average buyer of an Aston Martin, the one who buys it mostly to show how rich they are and doesn’t really care much for any of its components. I’m generalizing a lot yes, but the gas pumping thing is still true of most people with cars over 100 grand
you honestly can know from reviews that the transmission is bad, or just test-drive, and you also have the choice to let it be fixed by AM. It's not really trolling if they give you the choice to fix it.
Kars Landman 😂😂😂 it’s trolling because you have to pay a shit ton of money to get it fixed. If it were under a recall or cheaper or something then I would agree
Fun fact. The cars on ice in the Bond films were total fabrications. They were actually Jag and Aston bodies on Ford Explorer 4WD running gear and Mustang engines. Yep. Look it up.
And don't think it was because of cost. The 4 movie Astons alone cost £1.25M to build. But they had to be built because neither the Jag nor the Aston were actually up to it.
Well the explorer already came with mustang engines back in those days. And I wonder if they used the updated 02 explorer platform. I wonder if if would have been out yet
I saw one of the Die another day Vanquish’s in the flesh and the reason why they had to use a Mustang engine is because Aston’s engine was too large to accommodate the Dual machine guns and other gadgets hidden in the car
Yeah, I’d agree. The interior is definitely disappointing; even the conversion integration of the manual shift lever and the button omission looks a bit off. It looks like the radio and navigation system should be moved up on the entire stack.
I fell in love with this car and Aston Martin too after I saw Die Another Day. This was my poster car in my bedroom growing up. I think its simply the best looking car of all time.
I bet its Matt Farah's, idk anyone else who has a manual swapped Vanquish as that color, also previously owned by Ralph Lauren, as confirmed here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rPEH6MI74PM.html
"This is a Honda Civic. But its not just any Honda Civic. This, is the EX Model! It starts at over twenty thosand dollars, and today, Im going to show you why..."
Ayush Malpeddi Sorry to burst your bubble. The window switches in the Vanquish were borrowed from the X308 and X100 Jaguar XJ8 and XK8, although, they look very similar to the Ford ones. Same with the turn signal stalks, they are not used in Ford products, they are lifted also from those Jags. However, the reverse chime is the same note as that of Ford’s chimes of the time so you can say that your Escape shares some of the same chimes as an Aston Martin😬
@@MrAutomotive , the window switches are exactly the same as the ones used in Ford as well. Sorry to burst your bubble there bud, but they are even stamped with Ford part numbers under the switches themselves.
The tiny light is a parking light, for use when parking on the side of narrow streets. There is a corresponding light in the rear light cluster, as well. With the ignition off, moving the turn signal to the right or left position will turn on the lights on the corresponding side of the car.
[Content Deleted] of course it does. It is an Aston Martin that has Doug’s fingerprints on it so it must have a bumper to bumper unlimited mileage warranty
@@Uilliam56 Manual V12. I don't give a shit about the ZR1 which outperforms it for the money, it's a stick shift V12. I don't care about matinence cost, it has a V12. And a manual transmission.
more than a stang, Camaro, used corvette, luxury sedan, used jag, a small luxury crossover, a domestic suv...that transmission is pricier than a lot of things
You use turn signals a lot on a race track. Especially on a track day to indicate you are passing on a Certain side. You just showed how ignorant you are lol
He's a 29-year old car reviewer on RU-vid. He's good at it, but it's not like he's become a movie star or Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee or cured cancer, Joey.
Used car Nightmare. My Ex's dad had one from new...It was constantly broken. In fact he still thinks of it as the most unreliable car..he also owned a Lotus Esprit, so that says a lot lol
Any idea what broke? Due to the weird gearbox they are k own for eating clutches but that's the extent I know of issues Add in some expected British wiring issues but still shouldn't be too unreliable regarding the drivetrain
Throttle problems, Electrical faults and serious transmission issues. He had the car for 4 years and in that time the car went back to the dealer 15-20 times (for weeks/months at a time). He ended up selling the car back to the dealer in 2008 after threatening them with a lawsuit.
The tiny light is a visibility light. When you park in dark spots you can leave the turning lever up or down and the corresponding tiny light will stay on making the car visible. Same applies for the rear lights. I believe this is a light with low consumption, thus, your battery won't die if you use it. There is one in my Audi A5 as well.
Doug, I completely agree with your assesment of the beauty of the Vanquish, it's truly breathtaking. That was one of the reasons I purchased one about a year ago. I also agree that the gearbox is a bit crap, but then that is a refection of the era in which it was made. Like the owner of your review Vanquish, I am planning on having my car converted to manual. Good review.
Personally I think that DB9 is the best looking modern Aston (in fact most beautiful Aston of all time). It is much more refined, simplistic and clean. Vanquish screams 90's with its many details of the exterior and it has aged way faster. DB9 still looks fresh even tho it came out 14 years ago. But hey, everyone is different :)
Lukasz is right. Even though I like the Vanquish' aggressive styling, the DB9 has aged way better. In fact, the DB9 hasn't aged at all. Still looks like a new car. Styling wise, the DB9 was just a modern looking DB7, for the 21st century. There is a reason they kept making it until 2016. Same with the Vantage. Came out in early 2005, and you could still buy one new in late 2017, early 2018. And a DB9 or Vantage, second hand, is waaaay cheaper than a Vanquish. That being said .. if given the choice, i'd have the Vanquish :)
Sorry, It was always so hard for me to distinguish the Aston Martin models from each other. Engine? Chassis? Design? They're all beautiful cars - but totally same. The new models are definitely different, mainly the new Vanquish is breathtakin'...
I agree the DB9 looks better. I was totally blown away when the DB9 was launched. I couldn't believe it was a real car, and not just a concept. The DB9 is one of the most beautyful cars ever made. I always thought of the vanquish as the uglier brother of the DB9. After so many years however, the vanquish kind of grew on me a bit. I think it looks quite cool now. At least, compared to the ugly, disproportional DB11.
@8:18, those are the same climate controls that were in my old Jaguar XJ and I think if you long-press any button, it disabled the beep. It's been a long time since I had the car, and I do remember disabling that annoying function.
Doug, I am tickled you got to drive this Aston just before your departure to the West coast. very nice. Now... about my heavily modded 2004 Mercury Marauder.
Everyone hates on the Ford parts bin interior but the engine is even quirkier! I'm surprised Doug didn't refer to the fact that this glorious V12 is actually 2 glorified Ford Mondeo V6s mated together!
It has a little more in common with the Mondeo engine than a Vulcan or GT12 engine : but had already been modified far beyond original weld job. That V12 had only 320 bhp.
Doug, I’ve got a treat for you if you’re ever in Columbus, Ohio. I’ve got a beauty of a 1997 Acura 3.2 TL. She’s got a 3.2 L V6, 4-speed auto, plenty of scratches, a massive dent in the rear drivers side door, and she sometimes takes 5-10 attempts to start. She’s a real gem and I know you’re interested. (Like for doug to see)
I laughed when I read the title because no $85k used British car is a bargain. You might as well use those dollar bills to wipe your butt and flush it down the toilet. At least it'd be a more practical use of the money. There's a reason why depreciation is enormous on expensive, high-end sports and luxury cars like this, MB, Jag, etc etc etc. MONEY PITS. P.S. The interior looks offensively cheap. Smooth, shiny leather. The dash looks like a giant lump of molded plastic from a Rubbermaid factory.
Minghao Fan I gotta disagree with your opinion about american cars but the skyline r34 v spec II is one my fav cars especially stock in bayside blue the best 👌🏽
That beep that sounds when you put the car into park is the same sound that you hear in a Ford when you have the key in the ignition and the door is open
You can thank the incredible Mr. Ian Callum, the father of the DB 7, the last generation Jaguar XK, and the current generation F-Type, for the exterior design of this generation Vanquish. The man is a genius in auto design!
Am i the only one who did not see an iconic car 1 lots of plastic cheap buttons that makes noisy sounds 2 automatic to manual for 50k is a big robbery 3 it is very expensive now and 15 years ago 4 the leather around start engine after changing the gear to hide the buttons looks like after market cheap leather 5 a gear in a cup holder after 50k!! 6 this big hips makes the car look small PS: i always agree with you bro but this time not this car is not better than SLR or Z8 actually it is not even more beautiful than them... Hope you a good day and more videos im a big fan
i agree that the interior is not that great even though its from the early 2000's but dude dont compare a 1960's car to a early 2000's car interior haha
light goes on and off and on and off. damn thing kept catching my eye. amazing that AM would do this, i love it as they fixed the big fault of an amazing car.
I'm pretty sure the door at 9:43 used to be a LINN CD Player tray that has been removed for the smaller card tray so it doesn't interfere with the stick-shift.
No way doug, this thing doesn't beat out the SLR at all. That car is on a whole other level, this parts bin special is a pretty mess but the SLR is a timeless icon.
If not for the 007 films Aston Martin would've gone belly up 20 years ago, so many of these fanboys haven't ever driven, sat in or lived with an Aston Martin, the cost cutting and lack of quality in their older models is terrible
For a navigation system, it was still high tech at the time, and also remember it would "tell you", via sound, which way to go, which was leaps and bounds better than an open folding map, going 60 MPH ...
It is 12:55 am. I have a history test tomorrow first period. I am grounded if I fail. I’m not allowed up with my phone past 9. And yet, here I am, watching Doug.
I never thought my 2001 Mitsubishi Magna would have something weird in common with an Aston Martin, but it also tells me how much fuel (in litres, though) I've used since the last reset
The car owners hear rumblings about the company's plan to make things right with their admitted substandard transmission, then one day you finally get the letter containing the exciting news you've been dreaming about. Before you even open the letter you're envisioning an invitation for a free honest to goodness manual transmission, you then start reading and a pounding sensation starts to build and the pain increases as you read on until you can't stand it anymore because your arse is getting railed with a steam shovel, 50k, for only 50k they are willing to cram a shifter up your cup-hole and at a labor rate of $200 per hour U.S. x 62 hours + parts even charging you 14 cents for a cheap screw, they must've included that item just for laughs.
Can't believe that Doug doesn't know what park lights are. "...but then also there's this tiny little triangular light that shares this circle with the other two. I don't know why they bothered to. It doesn't provide any additional illumination at all but for some reason it's in there." *facepalm*
What are the odds that "carry out manual gearshift conversation" was a typo and should have been "carry out manual gearshift conversion"? A typo on a $50k bill!
This is the aston martin im currently owning and this is an absolute beast with all the power in an manual transmission, and it never gave me a single problem since i bought it new☺
