media = vultures. look it up for Carandiru massacre 1991. They simply ignored the fact that it was the biggest detention house/jail in south america/latin america at the time, there was a violent riot, they were killing themselves and killing others. Elite Police troops took control of the matter but they were more violent towards cops. Well 111 inmates were killed, the jails in Brazil are overcrowded.

The federal law enforcement agencies handled this dire and fragile situation in a very very professional manner. What is really worrying was the reporter saying " it seems like they are going to take over the penitentiary ". Reporter should not be allowed to get updates on hostages situation. It's fragile and delicate to deal with aggressive behaviour and ruthless killers. Good job, professionally handled and reviewed. Thanks to the best members of the agencies. 👍👍🙏🙏👏👏

A lot of times officers don’t give updates. Especially in situations like this. But the news is a business, so they do whatever they can to figure out what’s going on & report it (police scanners). Prime example during the dc sniper situation, a reporter managed to fly a drone beside a open window & take pictures of a investigation board. Next thing u know, news reports with names of suspects.
@PronatorTendon
@PronatorTendon 2 года назад
They really were flying blind a good portion of the time, and their decisions fortunately panned out in the end. Obviously experience and training played a large part, and so did the limited desire of the inmates to pass away hostages
@VoidHalo
@VoidHalo 2 года назад
They actually dealt with this exact same issue in the movie Die Hard. If you haven't seen it, the gist is a group of terrorists take over an office building during a Christmas party and take the party goers hostage mainly executives. One of the employees was married to a cop who happened to be in another part of the building when this all happened, so being an action movie, he's sneaking around killing the bad guys and making their jobs harder. Meanwhile his exwife whom he still loves, of course, is being held with the hostages, but the terrorists don't know she's his exwife. It's been years since I've seen it. But the long and short is that the reporting on the news almost outted her as his exwife which would have made her a target for the terrorists.

I was just wondering how did these hostages survived 12 days trapped in one cell? Did the Cubans who held them hostage gave them water and food, give them access to the bathroom. It will be interesting to hear their side of the story.

Yes they did. I use to work there, I wasn't there doing the riots, but you still had inmates who were there during the riots still there. One inmate told me they ran chow moves for staff. So what ever time chow was, they would call on the radios and have staff March to the chow hall to eat. There were only 2 staff members that got hurt bad, and that was because they were very shitty towards the inmates.

That Bureau of Prisons employee was absolutely correct: if the men they cowardly abandoned in the hospital had been FBI they would have launched a rescue.
@user-rf9mx4qf7z
@user-rf9mx4qf7z Год назад
They literally explained exactly why they made that decision. It wasn't "cowardice", they could easily have gone in with guns blazing and gotten them out. And in the end, all the hostages were released, which proves that they handled it well. But I guess some people will never be convinced.
@animerlon

So easy to be critically judgemental & accuse others of cowardice from the comfort & safety of your home. Sometimes hard decisions have to be made based on the safety of the whole over the few. Would you have preferred that a rescue attempt was made causing the shit to hit the fan & lives possibly lost?

That's a crazy place. I work with a company that had a GSA contract to repair office equipment. We when in that place to repair some equipment. They were yelling and screaming. This was at the front entrance. I was so glad to leave that day. The one time in my life that I hope nothing would happen while we were in there. This was in 1985. I never went back to that insane place. Never.

So Many Errors, I got there a year or so after the riot took place and talked to a lot of those still there - 7:30, at that time of day regular prisoners were free to roam inside their dorms and cell blocks, no 'release' was necessary. 7:50, The Rear Corridor was a junction point which stayed locked unless there was a scheduled move or staff member requiring passage, prisoners were not getting in the Main Corridor or the "main cellblock", there was no "locked just in time". 8:30, outer wall is 3 feet wide, not 3 yards. 9:08, towers 1 and 11 can't see inside the facility. 9:20, officers AND regular staff were being held. 10:20, staff depicted in wrong uniforms throughout. 12:45, any FBI spotters would have been in the towers directly on the wall, not "outside the wall". 13:20, regular guards had no "secure frequency". 15:55, I talked with a guard personally that said Silverstein purposefully protected him, even against Cuban demands, brutal killer yes, but not an "absolute animal". The guard Silverstein did kill picked on him constantly, a huge error for any guard, never make anything personal being the smart rule. 16:35, I never heard anything about Silverstein's 2nd goal being to kill people. 19:20, it's not that FBI couldn't get over the wall undetected, the issue was that the only hospital doorway was 100% in view of the rioters, that would have triggered them. 48:20, not so sure "not harmed in any way" is anywhere accurate. Many staff were physically and mentally brutalized, many left the BOP, and many guards were 'walking wounded', they stayed in the towers and not gen pop. Just my 2 cents, so very glad no more lives were lost. Unending thanks to any and all of those that took part in the efforts toward eventual release.
